Armed Longboat by Bruce
My stay-at-home, shelter-in-place project, worked on over six months. I didn't start taking pictures until the hull framing and planking was done. That was all piece by piece.

Beautiful build!
Thanks. A perfect project during COVID home-bound.
This kit is a pain in the neck to get “true” for me. Watching this I see why. I prefabricated the decks….
Looks fantastic. I’ve never built a wooden model ship. I just bought this exact model. I’m fairly handy and wondering if you think this is an ok choice for a first timer
William, I think this is a very good choice, the directions are clear and illustrated, and the scale makes for larger pieces to work with. Best way to mark the water line: turn the boat upside down on blocks, keel level.
William, excellent choice... the scale allows for very detailed work, with minimal rigging. Not too hard.
Very informative. Thank you so much.
Looks great! Nicely done sir
Bruce, I have this kit. I normally work with the larger ship kits. It’s either Amerigo Vespucci or HMS Victory next. I have at least ten on hand ahead of me. However, I am very intrigued by this kit. I have never built a Model Shioways kit. You did a magnificent job! Two questions: why did you make what appear to be templates from a card? What was your purpose? And second, how did you solve what to paint when? Will this become self evident? Or can you give me tips evoked from your work. I am fascinated by this little boat and I think I will tackle it straight away. Thank you!
I used the cardstock template because I thought I could cut the boards more exactly working outside of the boat then trying to cut/fit in place. The painting sequence is given in the plans, I followed pretty closely. I did find the best way to mark the waterline was to turn the hull upside down, make sure the keel was level, then scribe the waterline at a fixed Hight above the workbench. Sorry to be slow in replying.
Great job!
