Nice!
We started saving on our 401K in our 20's, putting 20% of our salary. The company only matches 6% & the rest was for savings. We have 2 houses in California which are both paid for. We've been retired over 10 years & we collect 2 Social Security checks, 2 company pensions from we worked for 40 years, IRA, 401K & 1 rental property. We travel globally at least every other year, mostly in Europe but we've been in Asia & South America. We just got back from an Alpine adventure for 17 days 2 months ago. We hardly cook since we are not good cooks so we buy most of the time. There are times when we go on vacations with our children & grandchildren. Life's been good for us. It's all in the planning.
Oh wow ! You definitely did the perfect planning ! That’s the retirement life that we would love to have . I think we’ll do fine with 2 social securities , 1 pension (Haven) and our 401ks. Our goal is really to travel the world while we’re still able to. We go the Manila as often as we can to visit Eileen’s parents then we do side trips in Asia . We save also for our European trips 😊. As much as possible we take our son with us . Kids now want to travel with friends more than with parents lol . So nice to hear that you have a good exciting life and you are 100% correct - it’s all in the planning !
@@HavenEileenDejesus Travel while you're younger. We're in our 70's & although we made it for 17days with constant walking all day, we were exhausted at the end of the day. We'll probably stick to a week vacations instead of a long one or maybe back to cruising.😆Good luck on your planning. I think you'll be fine with 4 income streams.
Curious to see where you’re going!
Watch out next vlog !
people are living longer
Maybe we should put life span to 90
@@HavenEileenDejesus Maybe when you're 75 you might think that's a great idea--
What’s your dream retirement travel destination during retirement and how do you plan to make it happen ?
A Million dollars?...i will retire in the Philippines... that is 250million pesos!
Yup! That’s what people say in the US . We’d love to retire in the Philippines but the only thing that holds us back is the easy accessibility to healthcare .
@@HavenEileenDejesus Not advisable for seniors to retire in Pinas. Healthcare sucks, specially if you plan to stay in the province. Doctors lack advance medical knowledge & hospitals are ill equipped. In the big cities, you can go to high end hospitals but you have to pay everything out of your pocket & it's expensive. Major surgery cost over a million pesos & some medications are not available.
Unacceptable !!! another way to keep us poor.
Yup!
Such bulshit
OMG 67k?
LOL
Thank u🎉
America is not for retirement
That’s true-retiring in America can be expensive, especially with healthcare and living costs. But for some, it’s about staying close to family or the lifestyle they’re used to. It really depends on what works best for each person’s priorities.😊
I know a good number of people of retirement age that have saved practically NOTHING, even though they made a good living most of their lives. They are in their 60's and 70's now, having to work full-time jobs just to make ends meet. This is despite knowing well ahead of time that SS was not going to be enough. Many of these folks work with me at my part-time Amazon warehouse 2nd job, so I am well-aware of how much hard work it can be and I'm only 55. I feel some empathy for them, but it's not like ignoring the looming problem wasn't a choice they made. They bought boats and RVs and went on expensive vacations instead of saving money. That's why I do what I do, working a bit extra now with my spare time, so I can max out all of my investments and retire comfortably at 62. 7 more years. You can do it, too, if you plan early enough!!
Yeah, we’ve seen that too-people in their 60s or 70s working full-time because they didn’t prioritize saving earlier. It’s tough, but choices like expensive toys and trips catch up eventually. That’s why we focused on saving and investing , so we can retire comfortably “soon” . 😊
Subbed hello from New York
Thank you ! ❤️
62 is ideal. Many can’t wait that long. Take it early. You may not ever see it waiting
62 is my target (Eileen). Haven is extending because he said he doesn’t have anything to do anyway . He’s waiting for me lol . But we are slowly living our retirement life . We do things already what we plan to do in our retirement .😆
To be fair- social security was never meant to be enough replace saving on your own for retirement. That’s quite obvious when you get those statements that tell you how much your expected amount will be if you keep working. It is waaay less than what earned per month. I think if more people understood that, they might start saving a bit earlier in life. (I-like many, was oblivious and didnt start til my 30s. My son started with his first “real” job at about age 20. Starting early, even if starting paycheck is small-can greatly impact the amount already accrued by age 30. Currently i have the maximum amount that can be withheld and put into my retirement account coming out of my check. (Like over $2000/mo) Ouch! The upside is that the amount i have left is about the same as i will have to live on per month after i retire. So it hurts, but is forcing me to live within retirement means before i retire. So i may as well get used to it now while i have the safety net of reducing what comes out of my check.
We have been educating also our son about retirement savings . Sometimes it’s really hard to get through these Gen Zs who prioritize “good time” but we never stop explaining the importance of saving .
I’m 46 and feeling overwhelmed about planning for retirement in 2025. The rising cost of living and constant market fluctuations make it hard to know where to start. I’ve saved around $150k, but I’m unsure how to maximize it for the long term.
I totally get how you feel. A lot of people think saving is enough, but without a proper strategy, inflation can eat into your savings. A major mistake people make is leaving too much in low-interest savings accounts or trying to time the market. Diversifying your investments is crucial to balancing risk and growth.
Exactly. I’ve seen friends delay their retirement because they underestimated healthcare costs and didn’t plan for market downturns. One big issue is not adjusting your portfolio as you age. By the time you’re in your 50s, you should start focusing more on preservation than aggressive growth.
Another pitfall is ignoring professional advice. After losing a chunk of my portfolio back in 2020, I realized I couldn’t do it alone. I started working with Eric Paul Elmer, a highly experienced CFA. He specializes in improving portfolios and has helped people like me grow their retirement funds significantly, both in the short and long term.
Joseph Nick Cahill? I’ve heard great things about him! I read that he offers free consultations and creates personalized strategies to help clients build wealth. A friend of mine used his services and said his advice was life-changing, especially in reducing unnecessary risks.

Republicans are behind the higher retirement age. America voted for them so...here we are.
😐
Hi po Tito and Tita, me and my husband lives here in Michigan po. He is 46 and I am 42, no kids and we’ve been debt free including our home mortgage for about 7 years now. We’ve only started saving for our retirement 2 years ago but since we have no debt, we are able to put a good chunk of money into it to catch up for the lost years. We want to retire hopefully in our early to mid 50’s. I love your channel po! I’ll look forward for more tips and advice. Thank you po. ♥️
Wow! That is super impressive! Being debt free and mortgage free in your 40s is such a huge milestone . It must feel so freeing to be focusing on retirement savings now . Retiring in your mid 50s sounds like an exciting goal. We’re sure you have fun plans in mind when that time comes 😊
The system is not setup fairly. They will push the retirement age to 67 but companies are finding ways to layoff people in their 50s.
The news is changes to the full retire age is increasing this 2025. Maybe 69 now ?
Totally agree. Great point.
I don't disagree. It's a horribly-designed, maintained, and implemented system. One that was never going to remain solvent, as it was originally designed, with the largest generation in history approaching retirement age while each administration continued to kick the can down the road. We are talking large block print on the wall, where it was going. That being said, I do think that expecting to rely on a meager-paying government program to determine your quality of life in old age is foolhardy. Doing that literally puts you at the mercy of people who are well-to-do and largely make well-to-do decisions that primarily benefits themselves. Most people have the ability to plan ahead, even in a modest way that adds up like crazy when you start young, and yet choose not to. They'd rather buy pointless things, instead. So you now have two parties kicking the can down the road...the privileged and the self-imposed helpless ones. No way in hell am I going to be the latter. I implore every single young person I know or work with to pay attention and how vitally important it is to start saving when you're young. You have TREMENDOUS growth potential given the time to let it happen. Most of them don't even want to hear it and would rather finance a car for $40k that they only drive for 20 total minutes a day and sucks up 35% of their take home pay. I don't know how you get people to care about this before it's too late, but I try.
Social Security changes could be coming-how are you preparing if the full retirement age increases? Adjusting savings, cutting costs, or finding new income sources? Share your thoughts below!
Credit card is very convenient but in Germany Cash is King... People are afraid to touch CC...we do have EC but most of the time majority of people pay CASH.... I guess it's important to be discipline and avoid DEBT or even better live life without debt... :)
That’s interesting that credit card is not usually used in Germany. … But good to know 👍! And yes , regardless if it’s cash or credit card , what’s important is discipline . No debt … happy life 😊.
I retired at 52 and honestly, I wish I’d done it sooner. The 9-to-5 grind always steals your freedom for a paycheck that barely scratches the surface. My advice? If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, start saving for FIRE now (Financial Independence, Retire Early.) And if you’re in your 50s, invest smartly and break free from relying on your job. Market trends, like the Trump Effect, have made millions for many, including me. Stay focused, stay consistent, and remember financial freedom is within reach if you make it a priority.
Exactly My point! The 9 to 5 grind is just not worth it the stress and low payoff. What specific steps did you take to break free?
Working with Lorrie Greta Hillard , a financial advisor, was a game changer. She helped me refine my savings strategy, including retirement planning, and provided expert guidance on investments and budgeting to maximize my savings.
Got it! Thanks for the tip! I was curious, so I looked up Lorrie
I have 5 more years and I can’t wait!
Thank you for sharing ! That’s something the young and the soon to be retirees will benefit from . 😊
My wife and I plan to leave a sizeable inheritance to our three kids so one million is not enough. One child is also Special Needs so we're planning retirement for three with that third person expected to live an extra 50 years.
Wow, thanks for sharing your story! It’s amazing how much thought you’re putting into planning for your family. Leaving a legacy is important to us too-not just financially, but in memories and values. Everyone’s journey is so unique, and it’s inspiring to hear yours!
Isn’t Social Security headed for insolvency by 2035?
Thanks for your comment! It’s true that Social Security faces challenges, with projections showing it may only pay about 77-80% of benefits by 2035 if no changes are made. We don’t think it’s going to be bankrupt though . We still need to be prepared and plan ahead and stay informed about potential changes . The government though has to act as social security is a vital program to millions of Americans . 🙂
Thanks for sharing. I assume you guys live in a state where pensions and social security income are not taxed?
We live in CA, which doesn’t tax Social Security but does tax pensions and other retirement income.
Love it
the budget you enumerated when multiplied by 25 needed an amount bigger than $1M
Hi! Yes it is but we deducted what we are going to receive from social security and pension . And since it will cover our expenses we really don’t need 1 million in SAVINGS to retire 😊
We're gonna have to sit down and use your budget as a starter!
Hope this helps !
I think I need more than 1 million : ) I think that when you pay off your house you no longer need life insurance also
We got our insurance long time ago when we didn’t know anything lol 😂 It’s a custom whole life with death benefit and cash surrender value . We kept it since it’s like some sort of savings also . We can use it if we need to tap on it or we can leave it for our som when we’re gone . Win-win I guess 😊.
@@HavenEileenDejesus I had a locked in price for my life insurance for 20 years! Then my house was paid off and after that 20yrs I didn't renew cause the price was going to go up significantly : )
Oh you have term life ? We have that also and it’s ending 2027. It’s cheaper and we’re not renewing because it so expensive . But with term there is no surrender value . Will check what happens if we cancel our whole life . Thanks for your feedback !
@@HavenEileenDejesus check the value of cash value, the older you become the premium goes higher but they take the money from your cash value. It happened to my parents.
I fully agree that planning and saving up is key to enjoying retirement. Thanks for the tips guys 😊
It really is!
Thanks for the realistic information.
Glad it was helpful!
Do you think $1 million is realistic for retirement, or is it just a scary number? Let us know your thoughts!
$1m is a target number for each individual that is married and $2m for single, that’s the number I am trying to achieve. Don’t be scared with this number because it’s only a target , will you be scared if you only saved $900,000?
Off the record daw pero nasa content. NKKLK.
Off the record here was more of a playful moment than something serious. We included it because we thought it added to the fun and casual vibe of our content. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts-it’s always great to hear feedback.
I just turned 30 and got married this year. This is a very nice perspective in terms of thinking retirement. I think my husband and I are in the right track when it comes to savings. It’s just so hard here in Ph to have retirement investment like 401ks, IRA and healthcare 😢😢
You’re absolutely right-retirement planning can be more challenging without a 401k system like in the U.S. But you’re already on the right path, and that’s a big step! I read that programs like Pag-IBIG and PERA might not be perfect, but they can help grow your savings. Maybe you can check these out ? I’m sure there are also mutual funds that you can invest in . When we were in our 20s in Manila , the only thing we knew was CDs 😊. What we can suggest is educate yourself , stay consistent and remember that every small effort counts toward building a more secure future.
i am working for our retirement starting last year and moving forward. i am planning to save and invest as much as i can.
Thanks for sharing ! Even if we’re close to retirement we’re still saving and we still go through our plans to see if we’re on track. Sometimes things come up and we have to adjust here and there. 😊
So, is your insurance not transferable abroad?
Medicare does not cover healthcare services outside the US. With Haven’s health insurance from his work which we are still covered after he retires , we are not sure but we are looking into that . I doubt it though that we will be covered outside the US.
I don't speak Filipino but I like the advise : )
We’re glad you liked our advice in the video, even if you don’t speak Tagalog. There should be an English translation 😊.
thank you po very informative, more power po to your channel :)
Thank you for your support ! We truly hope that what we share helps people like you in meaningful ways .
Good info!
Thank you ! Hope you enjoyed it 😊
Have you started planning for your retirement ? What age did you start that discussion ? Let us know !
Hi, its so nice to see videos like this; empowering many of our kababayans, that retirement is not about age. In the end its about lifestyle. My partner and I have been preparing our retirement since 2018. And we will be finally doing it on 2028 (when our passive meets our active income). We are both young 38 & 40, but we seek retirement to travel the world. And 5 years after that is our planning stage on where to settle. I cant wait to reach this time. As of now we are are just enjoying our journey on working in the corporate.
It’s inspiring to hear about your journey and how you’ve been preparing since 2018- what an amazing example of planning ahead . We hope more of our kababayans get inspired . Retirement is definitely not about age but about creating a life where you can enjoy your hard work . We’re excited for you !
What is the sauce ingredients
It’s 1/2 cup oyster sauce , 2.5 Tbsp soy sauce,1 Tbsp white vinegar . If you want it to be more saucy you can proportionately increase the ingredients 😊.
What brand is your yellow pan, is it ceramic coated cast iron?
It’s an enamel steeled cookware by Dansk(from Denmark). It’s a hand me down from my mother-in-law from her travels in the 60s. It’s still works wonders all these years 😊.
I love your video because I am all about retirement planning. Like you, simple life at retirement is our goal, while we travel during our go-go years. And we always pray to be blessed with longer quality life. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! It’s great to connect with someone who shares similar goals about retirement. There’s so much to plan and enjoy in this new chapter.😊
Everything looks good and easy to make! Will try all 😊
Let us know how it comes out ! Enjoy !
I can't believe you made all that with one chicken. Is that for real? I will try the Chicken Canton!
Try the garlic soy sauce pasta too . It’s really good !
Which one of these dishes would you try first ? Or do you have any favorite recipe using Costco Rotisserie chicken ? Share on the comment below !👇😊
I'll never look at Costco chicken the same way again! My son in college needs to see this. Thanks!
He’ll save a ton …or should we say … his parent will ! 💰 😉
I always pay the full amount due. I have record of my expenses. Enjoyed the rebate points that can be converted to cash to be deducted to my incoming statement of account.
Totally agree with you ! Same here 😊
I just recently retired from the government service at the age of 63 only. I don't want anymore to wait to reach 65 yrs old. I am so stressed and tired of the terrible traffic. I worked at the city budget office of an LGU so I am familiar with budgeting. And I applied it on my retirement pension. I have a budget for my pension so I know where my money goes.
Congratulations on your retirement🥳! Life is too short, and I (Eileen) learned that after 30 years in a stressful job. Slowing down these past three years has been amazing, and I’m just counting down to 62 for SS. Thankfully, we live and breathe budgets, so we’re confident we’ll be ready when the time comes! We also review our budget semi annually in case we need to do some adjustments. 😊
