I went in 2001. I remember by the end of the night I started feeling embarrassed for being a tourist. People get careless when they party but as guests in someone else’s country I thought people would be more respectful. I mean I know it’s the economy there. A lot of the trash just washed up on the beach from the ocean too. Every morning I’d pick up trash in front of our bungalow so we could pretend it was pristine for a little while.

This is the true story about the invention of "Full Moon party": Full Moon party's founder is one of the sons, Suthi, from Paradise Bungalow. He had a bon fire party for his girlfriend when she was going home to Australia. This evening there was a full moon. After that night, he had a full moon party every month until she came back to him on Koh Phangan.

Its important to remember that plastic straws are a necessity for many many many disabled people as all other forms of straws can grow dangerous mold to ill people and the others contain many components that one can be allergic too, however most disabled people are very careful with their plastic straws and re-use them unlike their able bodied counterparts who don't care at all, its important to realize that many other items able bodied people think of as necessary aren't and aren't to disabled people either such as plastic bags that aren't reusable and plastic bottles however other trash is an ocean problem again like beer cans glass bottles etc and these too aren't a necessity for disabled people, able bodied people tend to only pick plastic straws as a problem the one disposable plastic item disabled people really need and these same able bodied people don't think twice about all their other trash that is purely convenient for them but isn't necessary to disabled people, seriously we can do better

They are paying people to clean it but the tide is washing the garbage into the ocean faster than they can clean it All beaches are suffering from this problem its a global issue

Instead of sitting around looking constantly @ their phones, how ' bout these young partygoers grab a rake & put in an hour cleaning up after themselves ! But no, that would be asking too much of this priveliged, entitled, self-absorbed crowd. They would rather just ignore & walk past anything littering the beach than make the effort to pick it up; they can't be bothered; "someone else will do it ."Mass tourism is an enviornmental disaster happening in real time.

In 1989 I heard about the legendary full moon party at a rave in Scotland. Travelled by planes, trains and boat on what felt like an epic journey to get there. Beautiful experience, only couple of sound systems so a feeling of unity, lovely friendly people. Back Yard club, wow. Last month I was in North Koh Phangan during the full moon and didnt even bother to take a 30 min boat ride to the party. Im even amazed people still call it a party, just looks like Magaluf with better scenery. Yes Im old now, but even when I was a teenager I didnt like the busy heavy drinking random music style form of partying.

1. All full moon party attendees must pay a £100 deposit to enter the beach returned in exit and will be given a wristband with a unique identifier number and tracker (incase they get lost or drunk at sea). 2. All people at party must only used paper cups poured from a bar with refillable drink expensers. Any non paper cup will have an automatic £50 fine taken out the £100 deposit paid to go on beach. Culprits will be identified by their wristbands. 3. Anyone without a wristband escorted of the beach by environment police. Keeping the environment and beach safe doesn't need rocket science or tech we don't have yet. I don't get how people can party there knowing all the ugly trash on a beautiful beach they are around and leaving...that kind of lack of respect disgusts me.

I have lived in Thailand for 21 years and still have a house on Koh Samui but moved with my Thai wife to Nakhon Sawan but when living on Koh Samui I was very close to where they had the full moon party but never wanted to go. See all these crazy drunks and drug-infested people acting pure crazy for me and not a fun thing to do.

I met a German girl on a visa run a few years ago at the Myanmar border....she was stunningly beautiful (more than most movie stars) , young, fresh, charming, down the earth, funny and intelligent and I fell in love with her immediately (we actually had a couple of hours to talk before the night train left) but on the train that night travelling back to Bangkok she fell into a semi comatose state having taken opium. The next morning she was apparently angry me at me maybe because I lost interest in doing anything sexual with her since she was in that state but nonetheless invited me to come and stay with her on Koh Phangan and I was sorely tempted. Luckily for me I watched a BBC documentary about the full moon parties and excessive drug use and decided to not accept her invitation. I met lots of young people like her; so immersed in extreme hedonism and escapism that they were like model day pirates breaking the law and a will to never return to their countries of origin. She subsequently fell pregnant with some guy who was never part of his chid's life leaving her to fend for herself. She was and still is a very special young lady but I never understand people in their 30's whose main interest in life is simply 'partying' and getting high.I think that the Thai government should ban all parties which adversely effect the ecology of sites. What I think you are not taking sufficiently into account is that the vast majority of young people attending full moon parties are so drunk on hedonism and irresponsibility that it is illusory to think that you can expect them to clean up the messes they make night after night.It is like in The Beach with Di Caprio; drugs, sex and hedonism at all cost and this pursuit of a shadow utopia never ends well.
