I watched a video from MIT where they desalinated water using Temperature Swing Solvent Extraction. This involved mixing a salt water solution in an amine (that is in-miscible with water). As the temperature increases the salt had a greater affinity for the amine. Once the salt concentration has gone down in the water solution the two fluids are separated and you have water with less dissolved salt. Wondered if you could do same thing with Calcium Nitrate tetra-hydrate and then possibly raise the temperature of the amine solution or by some other means remove the water from the Calcium Nitrate, without separating from the amine, to get an anhydrous Calcium Nitrate dissolved in the amine which could later be mixed with water in a cooling application. The goal would be to use relatively low temperature waste heat for the regenerative phase of a cooling system that relied on an endothermic reaction of anhydrous Calcium Nitrate (or some other suitable chemical) with water for cooling.
