If anyone didn't understand the word for the poppy roll, it's "gibanica sa makom". I had to do a little googling for "gibanica" because I wasn't sure. "teletina ispod sača" (Swan's favorite meal) - this one was difficult for me to transcribe by ear, but with the help of google I got it! Hvala na podkastu!

I wouldn't really say that having multiple partners is about security on insecurity it's more about values and what kind of person you are. To oversimplify it, it's like a job application, when recruitment sees that you had 15, 20 jobs and all lasted only couple of months you wont get the job, they will question why is that, are you always unsatisfied, fickle etc...

Some other traditions I've heard of or seen. Godfather or kum goes with a bottle of rakija and drinks a shot with every guest and I think that they give him money for it. Now when weddings are much bigger kum isn't required to drink a full shot with every guest, just a little bit. Kum sings at least one song. Paying to dance with a bride, basically slow music is playing and male(I am not sure boys or everyone) pay to dance with a bride for a few seconds. Stealing a brides shoe and then people have to buy it. There is something about a young boy welcoming bride and groom at their house after the wedding or something like that, that should help the couple to have a male child. Shooting guns in the air in multiple occasions. There is also bride kidnaping, not really sure how that goes. There is also a tradition not that much tied with a wedding but it is part of it. Dry wheat grass(slama) gets trown in front of brides ex boyfriend house, I am not sure why but that is a source of great shame for that guy and his family. I know of cases when people didn't sleep guarding their house, or waking up at dawn to clean it up so no can see it.

30:20 that is not a wedding cake, it's called materina pogaca(it is a pastry with raisins or something like that) or mothers cake and it's not cut by the bride and groom but by the service but I believe that bride and groom serve it(not sure on that) and then you give them money. The wedding cake is that huge cake which bride and groom cut together but that cake is free.

@24:10 that is also part of tradition, it is left there as a sign of happiness and it should stand for 6 months or a year or something like that.

I am Indian and my husband is Serbian, and I do relate to this :) Pozdrav and keep it coming :) I do see it around me in men in Serbia.

The whole inat thing makes so much sense to me in retrospect. I'm half Serbian and growing up I would do the opposite of something (even if i was planning on doing it anyway) just because I was told to do it, even now I still hate being told what to do.
