    It is modern English which uses only the word "where". English until recently had "whence" for where from and "wither" for where to. Even modern English does not just have "where is the plane flying" but "where is the plane flying TO"

    • @easy-russian
      @easy-russian 25 дней назад

      Great point! It's true, English has something similar. But I've noticed this issue when translating myself - using modern resources, I often see "где" and "куда" translated the same way. So, it's something we should definitely be mindful of.

    • @MrYorickJenkins
      @MrYorickJenkins 25 дней назад

      @@easy-russian Languages are strange indeed. In English the "to" in where to is optional. "where are you going?" or "where are you going to?" but the from in "where do you come from?" is mandatory. You say "where do you come from" not "where do you come" , which now I think about it, might be badly misundertstood.

    • @easy-russian
      @easy-russian 25 дней назад

      @@MrYorickJenkinsyeah, I think it's because “where” and “where to” are close in meaning. If you omit the “to,” it’s still clear from the context what’s being said. But "where" and "where from" mean completely different things, so the preposition is necessary. I've noticed that modern English is trying to simplify a lot, but that doesn't seem to be happening in Russian, at least not as much.
