Saw them August 1969 at the Fillmore West, opening for Mother Earth (with Tracy Nelson) and John Mayall (performing his Turning Point album straight through). A glorious evening of music. The most unique opening of any show ever: When the lights went down, they all went to complete dark. Short wait in absolute darkness. No one expected this, all you could see where Exit signs at the side doors. Then, a single spotlight lit a young man in formal wear playing a classical piece on cello in the middle of the stage, seemingly by himself. Spotlight #2 on a clarinetist/flutest and they played a duet. Spotlight #3 on the "harpsichord" for a delicate renaissance number. It seemed like we were going to hear an evening of chamber music. It was surprisingly beautiful. Then, the spotlight followed the cellist as he walked over and picked up his bass guitar -- they were all three still playing the same song, but now it sounded a bit different. Spotlight followed the clarinetist over as he picked up his guitar to play rhythm -- still the same song, more up tempo now. The spotlight followed the harpsichordist over to his electric piano/organ. Still the same song, but sounded way different. Two more spotlights light up -- the drummer and the lead singer appear. Everyone playing now. The band is playing the same song, except they are ROCKIN'..! It was magical. When all the lights came on, the rest of their show was all R&R. Very unique in all my years of watching R&R concerts. Weren't some of them Julliard trained? That was the rumor.

Super talented Tom's River, NJ boys. One of them was Michael Kamen, another one became Mark Snow. Their recording which is among my most beloved pieces of music is the fruit of their association with Manos Hadjidakis, Reflections. Beautiful!

He's the one playing the keyboard/oboe, on the far right of the stage - my uncle is Brian Corrigan - otherwise I'd have no idea! :)

@@romelover09sorry to ask this out of the blue, but there's a video up here up on RUclips labelled "Jim Steinman - For Crying Out Loud (alternative demo)" and the demo was produced by Michael Kamen in the early 1970s and is labelled - vocals by Brian. Can you ask your uncle whether it's him? It's from a long time so I don't know whether he'll remember. But I thought it was worth asking, I've been wondering about this for years!
