Interesting take. As far as to why a lot of men do not initiate interaction, it is simply because a lot of men do not want unnecessary suffering. For a lot of guys, especially more introverted or shy men, one rejection could be a massively painful and traumatic experience. Thus, the logical answer is to evaluate ways to maximize the chances of success of being accepted by women while minimizing the suffering. This ends up being things like having very good looks, finances, and having your life put together. The fundamental problem, however, is that while finances and putting your life together are in one's control, looks are not necessarily in your control, aside from things like cleanliness and grooming. What if you are short? What if you have a hard time keeping your weight down despite doing everything to eat healthily and to workout? What if you have a different ethnic background than the local population? These things are factors a lot of women care about that a lot of men have no control over. The only sure signal a man could have of a woman being interested in him is her approaching him first. However, given that a lot of men who do not fit the conventional attributes of attractiveness, many are simply undesirable in the eyes of a lot of women and will not be approached by them. As a side note, I did not mention personality as a criteria because one's personality is a very minor factor for initial attraction. Think about it, if two people have a very good personality, but one is ugly and the other is beautiful, I guarantee most people will go for the more attractive person statistically speaking.

Thank you for being so sincere in you concerns! I believe that these worries are things that everybody can and will relate to in one way or another. The purpose of this episode is to imply that "Opening the Door" in simple ways like chatting as acquaintances or friends allows both parties to decide if they are interested in first and foremost; personality, and then a possible attraction down the road. All people have the ability to decide if they have an attraction to someone else, however almost any genuine human beings can attest that clicking with someone's personality will make or break a possible connection. Opening the door in simple ways is a great opportunity to make friends and practice the skills that could lead to romantic success in the future with the correct person for us. Practice makes perfect when it comes to dating and it's better to take the chance and learn to recover than to never try and never know! Thank you for voicing some concerns we can all relate to!

While the idea of being more proactive to counteract loneliness is a nice one, the main flaw is that people are fundamentally judgemental to some degree, especially to those of us who are not conventionally attractive or sociable. If an ugly guy tries to approach a woman to ask her out, that guy is perceived as a threat, not a potential date or friend. These ideas only work for those who are not ugly or unsociable. I would love to see a podcast that addresses this issue, as I believe that would be far more helpful and realistic.

Thank you for your input! That is a GREAT issue to look at in future episodes. I believe this happens as well, but the MAIN point of this episode is to address acting selflessly just to brighten somebody else's day. There are lots of ways to positively interact outside of a dating mindset! We aren't always guaranteed success when asking people on dates but we are closer to a yes then when we don't ask:) But there are so many other ways to make friends or make a strangers day!:)
