My Audio Stuff
Добавлен 2 апр 2023
I have a plethora of Vintage Audio Equipment from the 70's and 80's, and have restored most of them. Back in the 70's I cut my teeth at age 11 on my dad's Kenwood TK-140X Stereo Receiver, and got hooked on High Quality Audio ever since! Your contributions are always welcome. Harman Kardon 930 Twin Power Receiver Pt 2!!!
Merry Christmas everyone. With the wood cabinet and power option this listed close to $700 in the day! HK was one of the first audio companies to recognize the unpredictable dynamic nature of music and designed their receivers w oversized power supplies ie duel supplies to respond to the dynamics! 👍
(Correction to my specs. The capture ratio of the fm tuner is about 1 db. The selectivity about 65 db. )👍
I say it has an effective frequency response of 4 to about 140 thousand hertz, because even at these extreams it’s still close to flat!👍
Half a century old and it can compete and beat most amplifiers today.👍
Upgrades include new output transistors (4) MJ21194G together w a complete recap w Pan...

Excellent headphones from the digital sampling to the analog drivers!
How do the records sound??
I just picked up a 730 twin. Man,it sounds great.
Just got one, and have to fix one channel, but what I heard from the headphone out (one channel only) was very very promising!
I bought one in 1984 and it seriously needs to be cleaned.
I picked up an STA-52B on ebay about ten years ago as an impulse purchase because it was so great-looking and so cheap I felt there was nothing to lose. And it sounds really decent!
Such a handsome piece. I have a hard time choosing my favorite between that distinctive "mid-century modern-looking" dial and the three-strip one on the 430 and 730. I have several of the "Twin-Powered" HK X30 models and the 930 is the most powerful (60 wpc -- actually packing much more punch that the same wattage in today's amps), but the 430 is still the sweetest sounding to me...
Think of it as one of the first “Monster Receivers.” But without the name. Closer to 100wpc. Hard to clip and overheat.
Rated 100 x 100 watts per channel. Not 70.
I have one of these.
Got my 930 in 1971. Still got it, still as good as when I bought it!
For having an audio channel your audio is terrible, low volume and bad range. Just saying.
Hello Steve! Nice video! Great to see someone highlighting this often overlooked receiver late seventies. Radio Shack/Realistic didn’t get as much respect as the ‘big boys’ (Pioneer, Sansui, Marantz, etc.) but they were every bit as well made. QUESTION; do you by chance have a service manual for this? Usually can be had on hifiengine, but not on this one. I’m having a heck of a time trying to get the AutoMagic tuning to engage. I’m getting stereo FM, but this circuit just won’t pop on for some reason. Any help/guidance would be most appreciated! Thank you!
Beautiful...I want one...gonna keep my eyes open..
These generally run around 2000 dollars on eBay. And then they are usually not restored. 😢
Wonderful Unit" But Sansui also had 3 or 4 Receiver/Amps with Twin Power installed..." 😁
I didn’t know that. 🎉
@@afathersdevotions AU 517, AU 717, AU 719 🙂
Bought one off E Bay myself and it's not bad. The Meter does not work very well or at all and the Stereo light does not work. I have it in my shop but it does pick up static from tools that are plugged in. I also have an old CD player I might hook to it if I can figure out how. I would like to find some better speakers if I new which ones this unit will handle. Thanks for this video and I am a Subscriber.
Radio Shack, Division of the Tandy Corporation, made quality AM/FM STEREO RECEIVERS! THIS STA-90 is indeed a GOOD LOOKER!
Just received this one from eBay today and was wondering the best way to hook up the speakers
The Radio Shack Realistic STA-64 is a good looking AM/FM Stereo Receiver!
The Radio Shack STA-52 circa 1977 is a very nice looking AM/FM Stereo Receiver indeed! I believe that the STA-52 was engineered with 12 watts per channel RMS & the later model STA-52B was 16 watts per channel RMS!
Question on my STA 64 I lose the left channel when I flip up loudnesses lever, I used deoxit on all switches and don’t see any burnt diodes are bulging capacitors any help would be appreciated thanks.
Is bias also 15mV with the new transistors? Thanks
Yes 🎉
Yes
@@afathersdevotions Thank you.
Amen. Appreciate your witness for the Lord
God bless you my friend. 🎉
Found this at a goodwill the other day for real cheap. Did a couple repairs to it and it works like a dream. Glad to know I made the right choice picking it up
Excellent deck, made by Hitachi. Your deck was at a Radio Shack repair center at some point based on the repair sticker on the back panel.
I put 47K resistors in my STA-84 loudness circuit, that produced a pleasing, balanced sound. I shall consider doing the same to my STA-225.
Anyone have the schematic that should appear in the back of the user manual for this amp? My wife blew a channel and I want to try to fix it.
Great to hear other christians in HiFi.
Would you happen to have a complete rebuild parts list for the receiver?
I just got one Thursday 5/16/2024 , 100 bucks an it’s mint to my eyes , all component connections work great , put a new fm antenna on it an with in few hours all fm stations I picked up were great sounding , I live in a valley like area an trees all round thick wood an sometimes I have some stations not being picked up , but for what is is an era from , I’ve got a great piece , an it goes along with it set of period correct 3 way 8”woofer relistic mid size speakers an they have a low normal an high switch at area of speaker connections , an they work perfect .
Wasnt the original wood cabinet Chestnut
i have one of this deck, new, never use.
It's "crown" jewels. Not "crowned" jewels. The phrase refers to the large gems and jewels that would be set into the crown belonging to a member of royalty..... BTW, you'd have to be out of your mind to pay $700 -$1,000 for a 1060.
Они реально хорошие по звучанию? 🔊🎶
muy lindo el receiver, yo compre uno como en 90 dolares, al que lo mande hacer el mantenimiento oportuno son muy lindos y muy muy pessados.
It is an IR remote which is delivered with the Technics receiver or amplifier. You connect the deck with the receiver so you can control the deck with that remote control. Synchro edit is to connect with a Technics cd player having that facility.
Top of the Line was the 1977 Citation Receiver 85 watts per channel high current built with military spec parts.
You are right! 🎉. Almost an experimental receiver in some ways.
So true my friend.my brother still has his.
I have this receiver bought new, haven’t used in 30 years. I live in San Jose, CA…..any suggestions where I can get is serviced?
I have heard good things about pacific audio.
I'm excited my hk 930 soon to come 😊
Absolutely Amazing 👌
Cap STAN!
Q-VOX is "QUATRAVOX". The gimmicky name Radio Shack called that feature when they built the STA-90. It was also featured in some of their other models in that era. I owned a Realistic STA-1000 amp with that same feature back then.
Are you going to make a part 2 for this deck?
Great video, thank you! I just bought one of these, I always wanted one and am excited to get it. Would you happen to have a service manual you could share with me, or point me to where I can find one? I have searched around and am coming up empty but I have seen pictures of them so I know they exsist. Any help is appreciated.
Today, FM stations crank up the base to the max and that’s what causes base boom on these stereo receivers and many others as well. I have lots of off the air FM recordings from the 80’s that sound great compared to today’s over boosted base music.
I have 630 from 72 and still god
Take off that rug/fabric off the harman kardon amplifier. It produces heat and you should not cover the ventilation holes, nor put things on it.
I came to make the same comment. Get that rag off of it!
This receiver, nor any other Realistic receiver, employed "perfect loudness". Perfect Loudness was an adjustable loudness circuit found on the large integrated amps SA-2000 and SA-2001. There was an adjustment knob on the front "which allowed you to customize loudness compensation to various listening levels - the ONLY way a loudness circuit can function properly and as originally intended". Quoted from the 1978 catalog, page 38.
Yamaha did that too, same year range. Most of the cheaper and I do mean cheaper RS speakers need the boost.
Great review! If the STA-90 didn't win any awards, it should have.😎 I have a 1976 model, and you're correct, the "Perfect Loudness" circuitry can be overwhelming at volume although I use it often at low volume to fatten up the end result. I've come to really appreciate this feature. All in all, one of the best bang for your buck recievers out there. Made in Japan by Foster Electronics (later Fostex). A true "sleeper".
Perfect Loudness was a variable loudness circuit found on Realistic integrated amps SA-2000 and 2001. It didn't appear in any receivers. The STA-90 was made by Foster Electric. Fostex was a brand name of Foster's, unrelated to stereo receivers.
nice ! have you ever looked at the HK 505 ?
Not yet! Twin powered like the HK 665.
Hi There . Nice video . The original 930 run one set 4ohm or 6ohm speakers ? Thanks in advance!
2 sets of 8 ohm or 1 set of 4 ohm. Not sure w 6 ohm.
I bay a Elac Debut B6 for 930 is 6ohm, so we'll see ! Thanks for the info! respect @@MyAudiostuff
Hi there , the 930 works perfect with 6 ohm elac debut b6 🎉🎉🎉
