Jamaica motto is out of many one people the powers that be didn’t want it to be seen as a ‘black country’ after they made Marcus Garvey the first national hero are Chinese Jamaicans making videos now Jamaica is being taken over financially by the Chinese who use undocumented labour from china and exploit many loop holes to avoid taxes? building infrastructure roads bridges hospitals hotels shops and now jamaican chines are feeling the pinch. their country men from China don’t see them as the same Lorna has made many videos one was about the origins of ‘bumbo clart’ swear word going back to slavery. and she says how ‘we jamaicans love to fight each other’ both cases above she is making fun or pointing at black Jamaicans . she could make videos pointing at or making fun at Chinese jamaicans Chinese were not in jamaica during slavery. after it was abolished Paul Bogle and his followers were slaughtered by Maroons who were called out by the white government officials. in elections the only people doing political or gang violence are mainly black jamaicans . not chinese indian arab or white jamaicans. They usually stay apart from the decisive politics running business or professions and working with who ever is in power

Fact and the Jamaican accent is not an African influence? Patois is literally related to other African-Afro-Caribbean languages and cultures. Including that of North America (Southern North America, Carolinas). She’s insane!!! We have countless linguistic studies confirming this. It’s also known as Pigeon English. “Nigerian Pidgin English shows a large number of similarities to Jamaican Creole or Patois. Many phrases and words in Patois are also found in Nigerian Pidgin English. Linguists believe that this is due to the fact that the majority of slaves taken to the New World were from West Africa.”

Lorna is so right about everything, including the history of the Chinese and others who entered Jamaica back in the 1800s. It is true every word that she mentioned. I watched a video at the back end of August this year where they showed what happened in China with the Hakka people her ancestors and the Japanese people too who along with the Hakka people were forcefully removed to other Carribean Islands Canada and to Jamaica 🇯🇲 who were Indentured slaves. Some more arrived as they heard of work opportunities in Jamaica Some, who arrived with the Chinese, were also Africans who were living in China, and some were mixed race black Chinese people who arrived in Jamaica 🇯🇲 from China. There were also Irish who were Indentured slaves before the Chinese arrived in Jamaica along with the Scottish clans who arrived due to the Island clearings by the British in Scotland, and then the arrival of the Indian Indentured Slaves who later arrived on the Island. It was the Irish who taught the Africans to speak English. Therefore, this is why we pronounce some of our words the way the Irish pronounce their words. Also, the Spanish and Portuguese were in Jamaica long before Britain 🇬🇧 and before they took over from the Spanish after several wars between themselves. Some Chinese left for the USA once they could afford to leave Jamaica and keep their Jamaican culture in the USA. As Lorna mentioned, the Chinese had to learn to speak English on arrival to Jamaica and immerse into the Jamaican way of life. Yes, we also pronounce some of our words in Spanish, too, and German, because there were also Indentured German Slaves in Jamaica after the war with the UK. So Jamaica is a very diverse country this including the first nation people who survived when the Spanish arrived on the island. Many ran away with both the Spanish and Maroons up to the hills of Maroon town/Cockpit country and other areas, when the British and the Spanish were fighting. So, many, including my family, are also mixed with the Arawak, Taino Indigenous people who did survive when the Spanish arrived in Jamaica and many died from common colds, flue and other illnesses brought into the country by the Spanish and other Europeans.

Ms. Lorna Chin, I just want you to know that, as a mature black Jamaican American, I respect and appreciate all the many contributions you and your ancestors provide to all facets of Jamaica's life over the many, many decades. Please do not allow the ignorant black Americans and others to get you down since obviously they do not understand the real concept of our Jamaican motto. I remember in the late 70's when I was attending Holy Trinity Secondary school we had a few Chinese students in our class who were just as regular as the rest of us black students. We played together and got along just fine with each other. If I remember correctly, I believe their names were also Chin or some hyphenated version of the name. Listening to you talk about Jamaica's history and culture you sound more Jamaican than I do. Lol!🙂. If you were born in Jamaica and raised in the culture, regardless of your color, you are a Jamaican, full stop! Keep your head up high, my fellow Jamaican sister. All true Jamaican love and support you. One Love, indeed!

The root of the problem lies solely in the lack of knowledge of self. Majority of Jamaica consists of descendants of slaves who don't actually know who they are. Just as how Chinese Jamaicans know their origins, the descendants of slaves have taken on one identity. Jamaican! But truly Jamaica is only a concept of a multinational society. The simple fix to this is having the descendants of slaves know who they truly are. Hebrew

Jamaican population as per the CIA website Black 92.1%, mixed 6.1%, East Indian 0.8%, other 0.4%, unspecified 0.7% It's a Black nation E pluribus unum (One out of many one) The motto was first proposed by the U.S. Continental Congress in 1782, for use on the Great Seal of the United States. This was the de facto motto of the United States from the founding period (until legislation in 1956 made “In God we trust” the official motto). E Pluribus Unum maintains its prominent role in the Great Seal, and appears on the seals of the executive branch (President and Vice-President), the legislative branch (House and Senate), and the judicial branch (Supreme Court), as well as military flags and uniforms (Army and Navy), and official documents, such as passports. referenced the fact that the cohesive single nation was formed as the result of the thirteen smaller colonies joining together. The original Coat of Arms granted to Jamaica in 1661, was designed by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, William Sanderoft, and was revised in 1957. The original Latin motto, “Indus Uterque Serviet Uni”, was changed to E pluribus unum in 1962.

Read a book, OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE (Our Nationa Motto) has deep historical and sociological significance) so don't ignorantly spew nonsense about other people's country and culture! I hope one day an African can go to any of the Asian countries and tell them about the curriculum they have to teach in their education sectors and their history and issues like this, maybe it will help to make the world a better place 😅.

1 hour ten mark Jamaican dialect is actually Elizabethan English from Shakespeare and King James times . For instance phrases like ‘me case and come’ is from ‘make haste and come’ also ‘me hear seh’ ‘what say you’ etc all from Shakespeare english . the reason for the national motto ‘out of many one people’ was the authorities got nervous when Marcus Garvey was made the first national hero. He was a pan africanist who spoke up for black rights during the era of segregation and lynchings. he had largest all black mass movement in history in all 5 continents. he was never popular in Jamaica and was refused entry after he was jailed and deported after being set up by own members working for authorities in US. The JA govt saw him as a trouble maker and when rastas saw him as a prophet that made him public enemy because rastas were only when during the civil rights and independence era from late 50s , the authorities were shocked to learn all the newly emerging African leaders and US civil rights leaders all said they were deeply inspired by Garvey. Kwame Nkrumah gave his country the black star on its flag in tribute to Garvey’s Black star line shipping company That shamed the JA govt into making him into first national hero . because he taught black pride and self reliance the government feared the island would be seen as a ‘black’ country and may cause divisions so they made the country have a national motto ‘out of many one people’
