      Hello, Thank you for commenting! We installed those floors a few years ago now, they are 1x12 planks. First we age them then sand and stain them, then pre-drill and install. Cheers!

      Thank you for responding! Did you put any grooves in the back of them to allow for air circulation? Were they kiln dried? This is such a great and natural way to treat floors but there is so little information about this (in English!) on the web. @@shewearswoolsocks2883

      Doing our own experiments with oak. Boards turned green but then I washed off with boiling water and reapplied (going with the theory that the soap is lifing the tannins?).

    Can you kill a rhododendron whilevpruning

    • @shewearswoolsocks2883
      @shewearswoolsocks2883 Год назад

      Hello, yes actually lots of things can injure or kill plants. It would be hard to know if pruning caused it though because many things beyond our control can be harmful…eg. drought, lack of light, too much rain or overwatering, diseases etc.. If you are new to gardening you should visit a local nursery, and look into classes or ask them for advice. They will be familiar with your area and growing zone. Cheers!

  • @Pamela_PNW

    Great video, thank you! Question for you, I bought a home with really old Rhododendrons, they are looking very sad; long, leggy and spindly branches with few leaves and fewer flowers. How would you prune? Any ideas?

    • @shewearswoolsocks2883
      @shewearswoolsocks2883 Год назад

      Thank you for the nice comment. You could try trimming it back about one third. Taking the tips off the leggy stems (trimming back to a bud) encourages it to send out growth below making it less spindly. You may loose buds for next year’s flowers but it might be good for it to spend time just filling out. Also adding good compost may help., and cleaning out any dead branches opens it up for more light. Cheers!

      Hello, It depends on what type yours is and what zone your in, full afternoon sun might be too strong for it. You could take a photo to a local nursery and ask them because they would know your area. Cheers

    Oh my, thank you SO MUCH for creating this video ! I've been searching for advice on rhodos since I have very, very old ones in my new garden (they must be 4 meters in diameter...) and they've been neglected for a long time. I had no idea where to start or how they work. Your video is so informative, you cover it all - not only the deadheading but also light pruning and radical rejuvenating. Have your Rhododendrons opened up yet? Mine are all opening….I live in the Seattle area. My neighbors that moved in a few years ago took out all the rhododendrons that had been there for 55 years…I call him the Rhode murderer….the area looks so pathetic now, even though they put other plants in. Just makes no sense why they did that, they where beautiful. I propagated some of my favorite one which are a soft purple with blue overtones. I have the same one you pruned at the beginning it’s also 50 years old…..they are all my favorites 😉

    Great video :) I've grown cuttings for Hebe, Hydrangea, Buddleia, Spirea & Lavender. It is very rewarding when they survive and flourish for many years. Most of these are now on my channel header and I made a new Hebe video which shows these cuttings on their journey into big shrubs. These plants can be propagated any time of year if using plastic boxes or a greenhouse or anything to keep frost off them. Have a great day :)

    In belleville Ontario , have several Annabelle hydrangeas in yard . We have been here 2 yrs and have \lways pruned in fall, you used the term late fall , what does that mean B4 snow . Is it ok to leave them till late March ? Does the mount of aun impact on bloom size ?

    • @shewearswoolsocks2883
      @shewearswoolsocks2883 3 года назад

      Hi Neil, Annabelle hydrangeas flower on the new growth that will come in the spring so you want to prune the old out before it starts to grow. Late fall or winter just as long as the plant is dormant, so you don't encourage new growth just before freezing temperatures. It may not bloom as well in full shade, morning sun and dappled afternoon sun is ideal. Compost might also help with blooms. Hope you find this helpful. Cheers!
