You need to upgrade your armor by completing the secret areas in the first 5 chapters. Do the Gourd quest with the old man and you'll get the best one in the game with 10 refills.

@@phunklephineas9106 My mistake. I meant obtaining the Bull armor; 2 pieces for each playthrough. Hopefully we'll get those DLCs soon!
