8:50 Truly unknown to current (UK at least) cadets, being paid at all from the cadets is astonishing let alone the sum of $100 just by passing a course on camp

Wow. Just ..... wow. How far Canada has fallen as a nation. There were apparently no fat kids back then..... or at the very least, they kept hidden away from view. The youth of today couldn't hold a candle to these kids.

My years as part of 810 Grant McConachie Squadron in Edmonton during the mid 80s were some of my fondest memories, and provided a wonderful foundation of skills that has served me well across my whole life.

Cadets today has changed so much it is less militaristic and more of like a youth group. Their drill back then is so much better than today. They also have so much more funding.

Keep in mind about the changes. In the 1957 cadets were part of the armed forces, and had respective rights. After Canadian demilitarization of 2002 cadets became sub defence movement. And firearms were prohibited to use for them. Lee enfield can now only be used for drill purposes to fire "blanks." Daisyes that we use today are not firearms. So much about the Air Cadet movement has changed over the years. But enrolment has remained strong and the organization continues to shape the character of young people across the country. I'm glad to have been involved for as long as I was.

Young Canadians, never forget the enormous support that your Nation gave in the defeat of Nazis Germany, from 1939 - 1945 . Some family members, originally from the UK , who were immigrants and newly established Canadians , came back, to fight the war.to defend the mother country. This was a very gallant part of history. The UK will never forget the fearless contribution made , by Canadains. May God bless you all, as a cousin of mother England.
