Also, primarchs are more likely to fall under this category since they are actual artificial humanoids, whereas this custodian was once a normal natural-born child. And female custodians are no more heresy than all the previous retcons made by GW: the Emperor being made a perpetual; the addition of the Horus Heresy; the primarchs being regular Space Marines, turning the Necrons from mindless robots into the ancient civilisation they are now; bringing back the Squats as the leagues of Votann; Orcs having good aim and being slaves to Snotlings; or Space Marines being originally just regular humans in power armour. And I think I should add the fact that the authors of the black library wanted to include women to the Custodes years ago, like Aaron Dembsky-Bowden which he couldn't do because of a former IP-overlord telling him "No".

I'm not a mega fan of Warhammer 40k but I do like the brother sister dynamic the custodians and sisters of silence had. The sisters were technically "custodians" seeing as they were clad in golden armor and protected the emperor. But I'm guessing they were too feminine and the battle nuns weren't good enough for "representation" as they were too religious.

​@@saadiq2424if you are talking about the sisters of silence, these ladies are not augmented soldiers like the custodes. They have power armour but that's where the similarities end. They aren't super soldiers in the common sense, their speciality is to be a pain in the ass to psykers and demons due to a special gene.

​@@saadiq2424exactly, that dynamic is really what drew a ton of people to the faction. That Brotherhood/Sisterhood relationship united to protect the Emperor was at the core. It really was something unique and a great framework for poignant storytelling. Men, a legion of perfect men; part of a brotherhood that are more than human, but also less. More automaton than someone with their own hopes and fears. Driven to fulfill the Emporers will, not their own. That element juxtaposed with a companion Sisterhood. Totally soulless, and yet; in many ways, more human and individual than Custodes. Utterly disciplined and stoic to the point of rejecting verbal communication. In every way a mirror and shadow to the Custodes archetype. It really made for some amazing storytelling early on in the Heresy and even in some of the Vaults of Terra novels. GW literally trampled on that beautiful and rich dynamic at the core of this legendary faction.

​@@ForThePrince thing is, AOS works perfectly well with established lore. It's worshippers of Sigmar; reforged, after death to become his weapon and psuedo-avatar. Their supernatural strength, height, and power is a direct result/attribute of their belief in him. They're like 40k saints wrapped in an Emporer armor. The Emperor is the Emperor. With his knowledge and power, it's a trivial thing to craft augmented female humans into a similar being as Custodes. That was never the point. The point is narrative based, and the key dynamics between the Brotherhood of Custodes and Sisterhood of Sisters of Silence. It makes for compelling storytelling. GW ruined a perfectly good narrative framework to pander to a nearly absent audience. For them it was about making a female Custodes, nothing more, just superficial pandering because "woman strong". It's lazy and it's boring. No deeper meaning, nothing added in terms of substance. The reason for the change is just totally unnecessary. There are strong females all over Warhammer who will one-shot a Custodian willy-nilly, without blinking: Saints, psychers, Inquisitors/Interrogators, Assassins, Magos/Dominii, even stimmed out genhanced gangers that would put up a good fight or some female hive nobles with their paws on xenotech and exosuits. What GW did just taints their own narrative, because it shows they care more about modern politics than having a cohesive story that leads to many many more good stories.

Thing is rationally.... We're dealing with genetic engineering and powered armour, a female anything is pretty much feasible. It makes sense in universe as something that could be a thing but isn't a thing due to lore. That's the key really. It's just the on the spot lore re-writing that is annoying people. It's basically akin to just retroactively saying "Yeah the Salamanders come from a low gravity world it's always been this way" oh okay then. Or "Yeah the Space Wolves have always been clean-shaven you see" or "the god-emperor in terms of lore has actually always been a Tau-Ork hybrid" 'cos we say so in this twitter update. The Blood Angels commonly rock peppermint stripe camo with dildo helmets, nothing in the lore says they don't guyss.

I definitely mind as this insertion is absolutely malice, pandering and agenda driven decision here. What about the cool Sisters of Silence, Adepta Sororitas, and the women serving in Astra Militarum, the female assassins of the emperium, women in Adeptus mechanicus?
