On this channel, I'll share my experiences in kayaking, instructing, being a team paddler for Festive Water, juggling parenthood and homelife, and working towards a career in Paddlesports. The content is meant to be fun, moderately educational, and entertaining. A reflection of my passion to grow this sport.

Each year, the Tennessee Valley Canoe Club hosts their annual Paddle School to help beginners who are new to the sport and to aid the development of skills for intermediate paddlers who are looking to step up to the challenges of the Ocoee river. I had never volunteered with them before, but when Nick Barlow asks you to volunteer... you volunteer.
I was extremely lucky to have been given 6 amazing students, with already well-established skills. This not only made everything easier on myself and my support boaters, but it really enabled us to focus on having fun and building comradery.

Ocoee is always a great time. It's a good course for some fresh boaters for sure. I think I misunderstood the "levels" of the course, and felt like I didn't benefit from it. If I were new to Ocoee, it would have been a good setup for sure. Definitely considering volunteering next year rather than being a student, let me know if help is needed.
@@TheChitwoodBrothersKayaking sorry you didn't gain anything from it. I hope you at least had a good time running the river with me and the other students. I think you should definitely volunteer if you want to help next time. 🤙🏽

It kinda feels like they’ve reinvented the wave sport diesel or habitat. This boat probably has more rocker. Habitat 80 is a little shorter, a little narrower and has a little less volume. I wish someone could do a comparison to one of these older boats. Seems like a lot of times we just end up repeating things from the past. Outfitting is surely an upgrade.

@krayzrick1 it's pretty fun for sure. It's totally different than paddling natural runs. Do as many laps as your heart desires and have beers in between runs. 🍻🍻🍻
I’m 60 and still running and gun in. Send me one of your creek boats and I’ll put it through its paces for you. If being 60 stops you from running easy 7 ft falls on section 4, I’ve swam the five falls at 7.0. Age is irrelevant.
I was there on the second day of opening weekend but I was just rafting. Still a great place though I've been a few times already

🤣🤣🤣🤣 He can roll back up. It's something we practice as kayakers. And if he did start running out of breath, he would simply pull the grab loop on the top of his spray skirt, which would release him from the kayak. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

Im from Montgomery and when we heard about it we wasnt sure how it would turn out but im starting to hear good things about it now that its been open a little while. So my question is did you enjoy it and would you go back?
@@chrishall4012 I did, and I've been back a few times. I still prefer natural water flow, but places like Montgomery definitely have their utility. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

Naw. Every spray skirt has a grab loop that allows us to easily release ourselves from the kayak. However, we practice rolling our kayaks to prevent swims 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

I went over that in a raft about 40 years ago. Also jumped in under the falls and got sucked under for a bit. I will never forget that.

@@traceygreen9273 It's a thing that you do there at the falls. The hydraulics from the falls will pull you down as you go with the current and then you pop back up after several seconds or so. All you do is keep your head and feet up. It's not dangerous under normal conditions. I was a kid when I did it, so I don't remember all details, but I don't remember being scared.

The Chatooga, maybe not deadly, but as a paramedic and a swift water tech, ALL THOSE RAPIDS ON SECTION 4 will kill you depending on your line or lack of and water level. Nothing in section 4 is safe. Next thing your goin to spout is how easy left crack is……😂….stay in your raft guy……😂….you want easy there’s the Nantahala. If you want the gnar it’s green narrows or bonus defeat gorge. If you can’t swim well, feel totally comfortable in whitewater, stay home. Amazing the rescues we made in just one year. None knew how to swim, yet jumped in. Never add to the rescue count.

Every sprayskirt (the device that straps us to the kayak) has a grab loop. Pulling it enables us to swim to the surface. However, we practice rolling our kayaks to avoid swimming. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
