    Good summary. Hopefully they continue to work on a solution for elevated pad edge behavior. It’s definitely improved to where it’s a non-issue if flying proper procedures, but it would be nice to see more realism adding to this part of the simulation. However they achieve it.

      100%. Totally agreed! I also respect the incredible complexity of developing a simulation that is expected to keep up with modern computing, graphics expectations, flight physics, and the need to retain at least some compatibility with a community of external developers, and the wishes of a passionate community. I think I’ll just stick to making RUclips videos. 😂🙂

    A lot of incomplete planes (basic functionality stifled) on the default aircraft + few addon planes means Career Mode is pretty much the only thing you can do. Get licenses, rush up on your skills, and actually start your business. Not a bad feature. But I don’t fly in free mode because that’s when I would fly my 3rd party aircraft. None of my aircraft have been updated to work fully in 2024.

    To your first point about added granularity across the rotor disk, this would actually add 4 more points of calculation adding to the "expense" of calculations. They did say they were going to change the single point to be bigger so that the area below the aircraft is larger that is being taken into account for that ground effect calculation because it can't do a true multi level surface so, they are now doing an average over a larger area instead of directly below the helicopter.

      Yes, I think that's my understanding too. But some would argue, even though it's a huge improvement over 2024 at launch, that it produces unrealistic, symmetrical lift across the whole disc on approach to an elevated pad. I'm holding out hope for future improvements...

Jorg tried es several times to highlight the importance of listening to the users and be more transparent about all the problems. I wonder how many of the users are flying helicopters. If there was a big number doing that and the statistics says many doing career mode. How can they not talking about the helicopter career mode that aren’t even playable. They sad something about being so many bugs and stuff to fix so they didn’t even want to talk about it. • @matthew-lets-fly
      @matthew-lets-fly День назад

      Hi! I'm in SU1 Beta. I just started the R66 from cold and dark at a parking spot. I followed the EFB checklist, but I notice it's missing one step! After starting engine, you need to wind the throttle away from you slowly, when the N1 increases, the governor will automatically take over so you don't need to touch the throttle again. Hope that helps?

      Yes, it can take quite a while to get accustomed to different sensitivity settings and control mapping. I've done a few flights in the H225, but I find it hard to fly for a long time because of the harsh mono engine sound. In the "live" version, the H225 is very sensitive to being unpaused or coming back to the cockpit from the drone camera. However, in Sim Update 1 Beta that situation seems to have improved. So, are you on SU1 Beta? That might help? Also... are you aware there's a MFD secreen that shows the difference between your inputs and what the HPG stabilisation system is commanding? That could be a useful debugging tool for you?

    Helicopters are a very different beast. You have to fly them constantly unlike fixed wing aircraft. You can trim them to make them a bit more manageable but if you release the controls you're going to have a bad time. You have to kind of "will" them to stay into the air. I pretty much only fly helos in MSFS24 and in DCS as they are my favorite aircraft type. A good stick, throttle, and pedals go a long way to flying helicopters.

      @@matthew-lets-fly I have recently swapped to the Winwing Ursa Minor for my flight stick. It has adjustable dampeners that make helicopter flying a dream. It's not a good as a FFB stick or some of Winwings higher tier stuff, but it is very low cost and works very well for my needs. My throttle is a Saitek X-56 Rhino, and my pedals are Saitek Pro Pedals(which sadly you can't buy new anymore). For fixed wing stuff I swap that stuff out for my Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo.

    Not noticed the yaw IRL on a Cabri. As its easier IRL its a much softer touch down, that ive never managed in MSFS. The real one requires aft and right cyclic on lift. Collective inputs effect toque much more. Due to the rubber mounted skids its also easier to feel if your out of trim before the 2nd stage of the lift. The rubber suspension can take a lot!

Also, when you say the real machine requires aft and right cyclic on lift - is that with one or two people on board? I've also read real-world forum posts saying that, with one person on board, forward and right cyclic is required on lift - what's your experience?

    • @madeupwithit
      @madeupwithit 4 дня назад

      @matthew-lets-fly less rearwards, but I wouldn't say forwards. That's a detail I can live with been modelled not quite right. The lack of torque with collective is what stands out the most. Especially if you rush out of ETL on approach, a lot more pedal work should be required.

    I got a question. Why is the ball always out of the middle in all helicopters? Even when maintaining the hover. Is this normal for helis. I fly planes irl but i have been very intersted in learning how to fly helicopters lately. I think its going to happen soon too😂

    • @MagnusThornberg
      @MagnusThornberg 5 дней назад

      I have read that it’s a bug and the ball are not accurate in the sim. I have noticed that in the helicopter with a string (r66 and h125) you can use that with good accuracy but the ball doesn’t work 100%

    • @matthew-lets-fly

      @@MagnusThornberg agreed! The ball does not function correctly in 2024 helicopters. Use the string, and remember to stand on the head of the snake. 😂😂

    thanks, another great video - really enjoying them ! Q. how do you setup your joysticks axis, so you use a lot of curve, so the centre area is less sensitive to movement. so far, Ive not noticed, I tend to use a very small range of moment on Helis, so seems like I could comprise the range, for more control. (Im using a Thrustmaster Hotas 4, so the joystick shaft is not that long)

    • @matthew-lets-fly
      @matthew-lets-fly 4 дня назад

      Thanks for the positive feedback, and thanks for watching - much appreciated! I intend to do a video on sensitivity settings. There are various approaches, and different people will have different recommendations. I previously used very low sensitivity of -0.8 in both cyclic axes. But I've moved to 'extremity deadzone' of 0.3 and cyclic sensitivity of -0.2. For your setup, I think you could try either of those approaches to see what works for you?

    Very good job explaining the hover technique 🙏 it takes many hours of practice to master the hover. I remember the frustration in the beginning and the feeling that you never going to master it. As with everything time will get you better😄 I still struggle with the h125. It’s the most difficult helicopter to hover for me. Taogs Hanger Huey is the easiest by far to hover. I don’t know if it’s accurate but Taogs have had help from a few real pilots to tune the flight model so it should be accurate. The one I think is the most fun and precise to handle is the Cowansim md500E. It’s twitchy but when you get use to it you can place it very precise. I wonder if it’s the many rotor blades that makes it so good. And it got lots of power. Thanks for the excellent videos 🙏

      Thank you for your ongoing positivity and support - I really appreciate it! Everything you say is true, and every simulator pilot will have similar experiences to you. Also, in the description of your setup, you listed "MS FF2 non-centering stick" What is that product? Thank you!

      @matthew-lets-fly 5 дней назад

      Thank you so much for your positive feedback and your kind support! I am thinking of doing a video devoted to sensitivities - it's a big topic! I used to be into -0.80 sensitivity on all the cyclic axes. But now I'm trying 'extremity dead zone' of 0.2 and sensitivity of -0.3. That gives a more linear response in the middle portion of the range, but still allows me to get into the extremities of the range. I *LOVE* it that you are asking about the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2!! The shocking news is that this stick is TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OLD!!! 😂😂 It really is time to upgrade!!

    • @matthew-lets-fly
      @matthew-lets-fly 5 дней назад

      Yes, that is very hard! I also struggle with that on a 2D monitor. I think it would be good to try some practice techniques to improve your height perception. Maybe try some pick-ups and set-downs, with a focus on not getting too high. Then move onto a narrower taxiway and try the same. Remember to keep your view in the middle distance - you will start to develop a feel for your height and direction based on the way that other things are moving in relation to your helicopter. MSFS 2024 is great for this because of all the ground detail. I hope that helps! 😀

      Turn on shadows. It will really help if your computer can handle it. This will give you a "pseudo-depth perception" that you lose with a 2D screen. Also, having your zoom back a bit so you can see out of the lower chin windows will help.

    • @matthew-lets-fly
      @matthew-lets-fly 6 дней назад

      In simulation, and especially on a 2D screen, it's really easy to lose situational awareness and to over-correct when you focus on objects close to the helicopter. That can mean a really wobbly landing or even loss of control. I'm in awe of the sim pilot who can land smoothly without having a medium- to long-distance view. 🫢

  • @aronwhitesell9427
    @aronwhitesell9427 8 дней назад

    Going over 83% torque would not be a over-torque. Going over 100% would be. (Although IRL, you have what's called a transient excecdence, which gives you a little fudge factor over 100%). Helicopters have max continuous power and 5 minute power. In the case of the R66, you can use power up to 83% all flight, then 84% to 100% is your 5 minute power limit, mainly used for max performance take offs.
