On January 13th 2024, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi was chosen to give a quick 8 minute speech in front of 100,000s of people in a Washington DC Palestine Rally. Many found some issue with his choice of words on one segment of his speech, leading to yet another YQ controversy. Shaykh Yasir at this point is well aware of his critiques, his decision to distance himself from social media has caused him to be more unaware of the exact contentions this time.

Where as Muslims do we get this dichotomy of political vs. theological speech?
The distinguishment is that in the political context (unlike a theological class), the objective of the speech is not to educate Muslims. Rather in this context it was to motivate and persuade non zionist jews (the target audience). And yes, depending on the context there is a *different* way to convey information to others. When giving a class on aqeedah, of course we wouldn't use the same choice of words and we woukd explain that salvation comes from Islam alone. Even theologically there wasn't anything necessarily impermissible in his choice of words, rather what people are labelling 'kufr' are incorrect *interpretations* on what he was conveying.
@@authenticmuslim1438 My brother, there was no need to convince non-Zionist Jews to support Palestine. They were already at the protest. But there was a need to invite them to Islam. But when you validate them by saying they're the true followers of Moses, they feel no need to become Muslim. Islam is the true brotherhood - dunya and akhera - and not just because they are moralistic people when it comes to Palestine.
@@kareem376 Again, we have to look at that situation within the context, I don't see what is hard to understand. Of course there are times and places where we call non muslims to Islam. But there are other places like this one in which the focus is to get them firm in supporting Palestine. Also with all due respect there *is* a need to get non zionist jews to support Palestine instead of just being neutral! Saying those words can be vital in inspiring them to continue and expand in their support. Secondly I can guarantee no Jew heard this speech and their main takeaway was that they don't have to be Muslim lol. Rather as he explained in the video, we saw the exact opposite, we saw Jews become more interested in Islam and how they can help the Palestinian cause.

Edit: Only mistake was at 36:27. It should say Surah A'raf (its the start) instead of Surah Qasas, the rewayah is still khalaf 'an hamza.
