The steel industry had been in decline for years. A lot of the locomotives at Toton have been stored for years, since way before Brexit. It is easy to blame Brexit, and Covid too, for decline in anything, is that factual? No...

@@simonp1970 There is no way out for UK ! Nearly bankrupt and broken ! Listen to the new premier ! Brexit and the loss of a lot of industries.. The class 60 at Toton were stored, because the cost per mile were higher then using a class 66. And now the market is further shrinking, because continental industries have found other suppliers outside UK !! There are FACTS and no OPINION ! It is cheaper to buy .,g. chinese or korean machinery for construction work than British made ones.

@@class77sncb which is the same for the rest of the world.. chinese cheap crap has flooded the market, the UK is the 6th largest economy in the world, hardly bankrupt.. The 60s were stored because the work wasn't there.. in addition, DBSchenker really aren't doing very well.. look at GBRF, DCR and Freightliner by comparison...

@@class77sncb Will probably be cannibalised for parts for other locos as and when needed. That is the usual way at TMDs if they have plenty of locos.

@@_RabbitLeader May be, until the spares arrive. If the cab is destroyed, it is cheaper to ask for a new cab. But my impression of UK railfreight is a decline in number of trains..

@@class77sncb Who knows but when you see Class 66s standing idle not to mention many other locos standing idle, why go to great expense repairing a cab when money can be saved by using as a source for spare parts. Other operators are storing Class 66’s!

@@class77sncb How is cheaper to buy a new cab? Cheaper than what? If this is spare, it is money saving by not buying a a replacement cab and simply taking parts from it rather than import from Canada.

Too many assets for too little work. The Americans were Smart enough to sell up right when the coal power stations started to be switched off and unlike freightliner EWS didn’t have a glut of intermodal to fall back on.

@@HJDore that's what's wrong with the private sector. The companies with the greatest assets are not always those with the biggest books.

you can definitely see class 47 design in a class 60 so 1960s design altered slightly to build the class 60s in the late 1980s early 1990s! I bet half of these loco's was barely worn in when they was dumped and left to rot away in 2000 onwards!!!

@@justinobrien3593 60s were unreliable. Most have been in scrap lines longer than they were in service. Everything went against them, privatisation, heavy freight dried up, 60mph top speed and low reliability.
