Why now? Disney have been, (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) 'Inadvertently' Altering, changing, twisting, adapting and shaping OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK to suit their audience for decades. Many of the stories, fables, and legends that Disney bastardized had moral lessons. I can only imagine how frustrated the original authors would have been to find out that in some cases, Not only had the appearance of their characters been changed, But sometimes the CHARACTER of their characters had been changed. How is this acceptable? For example. Disney own Star Wars. So they can do what they want with it. Kill off a character? Sure. Push a particular social/political agenda? Sure. Why? Because they own it. But what are the boundaries? Can Elon Musk buy a few Van Gogh's, and Rembrandt's, and whip out his crayons and 'improve' them? (Interestingly enough, .... the worlds psychotic obsession with MONEY,..... .....the filthy lucre,...... Ensures there are VERY STRICT AND CLEAR laws as to what is and isn't acceptable when defacing actual MONEY,....cash currency,..... .......but not so much when it comes to priceless, irreplaceable works of art) For me, Art is something that evokes so many emotions at once that your mind can't process it all quickly enough. There is part of our brain that really likes this feeling. It sees it as a riddle. So, We accept our immediate reaction to the work as a start point. Then proceed to unwrap it and find out if the answer (the artists message in the work) was: 1. What we initially thought it was (were we correct in our initial assumption or did we get fooled) 2. Something we agree with (do we understand the message they were conveying. Do we understand what the work is 'about') But who is the 'artist'? Carlo Collodi wrote Pinocchio. Disney said, "I'll have that" And changed the story completely. So, in Disney's version, does Geppetto represent Collodi's values or Disney's? Does Pinocchio LOOK the way Gino Mazzanti (the original artist) drew him, or the way Disney drew him? Or did Disney lose something in translation, Did they fail to notice an important part of the story? I feel as though I am being deceived. WHO espouses the vices and virtues of these characters, and is the motivation for their actions coming from THEIR world (the story),.... or mine (the audience). Too many authors, too many character adaptions. 'Too many cooks spoil the broth' And I don't know who the cooks are,....what version of the recipe they are using,... I know some are anti-gluten, some are diabetic, and won't add some ingredients, but will try to sneak other ingredients in. Tricked into watching propaganda dressed as entertainment. AND PAYING FOR THE PRIVILEGE! For me, What Disney is producing does not meet my definition of art. There is no riddle. There's nothing to unwrap. It's clear from the outset who the hero is, who the villain is,.....and WHY. There's no deep analysis. There are too many times when I know the outcome of a suspenseful scene, simply because I know the real world politics behind it. And the political agenda they are pushing is so blatant and 'in your face', that ultimately the work is completely unenjoyable. It seems that more and more the reason a particular person is cast as the hero or protagonist of a story, Is more to do with who they are, and who they represent, in REALITY (my/the audiences world), Rather than who they are in the story/movie. So it fails as entertainment as well. This woke agenda Disney is pushing is, like everything, just about money. And the 'politically correct' excuse/justification for doing something,... is ABSOLUTE, and very hard to debunk. It's a strange time when multi billionaires can be paid for their 'time',.... paid to appear at an event, paid to sit in aircon and,.....talk. Yet, 12 hours a day, 6 days week, On the pick and shovel barely cover the food and rent.
