    Really good casting. Most of the time when I see someone other than the known entities casting AOE2 they are not good. Is there anywhere that has the brackets for this tourney, I didn't see it on liquipedia.

      Thanks for the kind compliment! Tournaments need a certain level of notoriety to be included in liquipedia. In this case, this is a tournament without a prize pool, so it is not displayed there. I’ve added a link to the Google sheet with the tournament brackets to the video description.

I will be signing as a closed map specialist, I like arena, Amazon tunnel and so on but I feel we are missing the closest map on the game Michi😅. I am actually a Michi lover. Also very well played, Rbase is a very solid players, those timings on the first game were good, also the wall setup was well thought.

      Thank you so much! Yeah, at my level, playing against RBase is intimidating and an honor, so I was very happy with game 1. As a Tolkien hater, remember that at the time people didn't really live his writing style either! He had decades of commercial non success at the least. It just wasn't his job, linguistics research is completely different to creative writing. Other writers in fantasy even at the time can hook you faster. (Wasn't CS Lewis' writing completely different in having a quick introduction to the plot of the books as well? The first lion witch and wardrobe chapters aren't exactly focused on worldbuilding. Same for Robert e Howard - Conan the barbarian has obvious appeal.)

    • @TheNandoAOE
      @TheNandoAOE 2 месяца назад

      That's true, thanks for your comment and contribution! Tolkien’s work was game-changing, but one should not consider Tolkien’s work the entirety of the fantasy genre at the time! Expectations play a huge role in appreciating a work. I love the Wheel of Time series, but maybe I would have dropped it after the first book if I did not know that the series is so appreciated and loved. I do believe there are a lot of hidden gems out there whose mainstream success is just hidden behind some important name finding and promoting the work. All works have strengths and flaws, and sometimes the flaws are just overpowering and make the work not worth it, while in others, powering through some initial faults pays out big later on.

    • @siginotmylastname3969
      @siginotmylastname3969 2 месяца назад

      @@TheNandoAOEI really appreciate your reply! Since my sister also loves Tolkien I don't say I'm a hater to be confrontational and annoy people 😅 I respect people loving his work just personally don't so... Oh well! As for hidden gems, I saw someone comment once that fantasy writing was often mixed up in other genre magazines and the likes with pulp fiction and sci fi stuff in earlier periods of western genre fiction. I get the impression that's very true and may have gotten rid of some of those hidden gems from the past. Interestingly, I get the impression that Japan also has a very strong sort of scene for fiction like that. A seinen manga magazine called comics alive for example publishes Tappei's short stories a lot for some shop exclusive issues, smaller side stories which aren't essential to the larger story end up sold like that or in some of the novels he's written for the special bluray box sets(one example being a novel about Elsa's backstory in Gusteko which was sold together with season 2 DVDs called Apocalypse girls). There's also a manga I like called nurarihyon no mago whose light novels I was reading about on Wikipedia and found one of them references an influential light novel called Teito Monogatari in its title. Which is a source of lots of onmyouji tropes and particular ways of depicting some Japanese folklore such as oni(the species which Rem and Ram are, calling them demons or ogres is localisation but not exactly true), the figure of Abe no Seimei, or the sort of mystical aspects of why Kyoto was built in the shape it was. And that also began its publishing as a magazine special before being published as a series of ten light novels. I think the differences in publishing industries are responsible for a LOT in how we find those hidden gems, plus there's the popularity of multimedia projects and how loosely popular authors sometimes reference other works with a wink and nod, despite it being too close to plagiarism in other countries(I don't think it's respected in Japan either but since they're considered popular authors and not literary works you know they get away with it).

    • @TheNandoAOE
      @TheNandoAOE 2 месяца назад

      @@siginotmylastname3969 My position in this channel is and always will be: everyone is free to have any opinion, as long as they are respectful about it. I will never judge anyone for disliking Tolkien, Tappei Nagatsuki, Brandon Sanderson, ... whoever it is! I do think one think that helps a lot of artists (musical, writing, drawing, …) grow is the publication environment. When I look at western media, especially on a genre that some elites consider “inferior” as fantasy, there are only two points to your career: small author that no one knows, huge famous mainstream author, it feels like there’s no step between. In Japan, there’s so many resources, both in terms of people, printing, different publishing media that people consume, … that careers feel more like climbing a ramp. You take gradual steps, you grow bigger and bigger, you expand your skills, and then your talent blooms. In western publication, instead of climbing a ramp, you are climbing a wall, you either get over it and make it a full-time occupation, or you get completely crushed right from the get-go. Of course, every case is a case, this is an insanely huge over generalization, and I'm speaking from impressions I have rather than personal experience, so I admit my take here could be completely wrong. But I think one of the reasons why all Japanese art has grown so much in recent times is that the society and publication industries are structured in ways that incentivize more artist to explore their own arts, and a lot of the systems are in place that reward the effort of those who deserve it.

    Nice to see you back on some playing streams. The progress is noticeable, you're now more flexible not just in drafts and strategies but also in reacting to pressure. There are still improvements to be made but that's what the grind is for! I agree that playing outside of ladder and tournaments can be great since you meet differently skilled opponents that may highlight strengths and weaknesses, or just remind you of the basics

  • @userx2488

    In the Goth lamer game 1:16:37 I think you need to think about your woodline on the left side. You were constantly raided there and you could have shifted these vills to your woodlines on the right where you had 2 TCs for protection. If you don't have TCs nearby res gathering you need to leave your pikes there. Your habit is entire army ctrl+1 and then placing them on your frontlines expecting an enemy army at the front. A horrible game w/ the laming though.

    • @TheNandoAOE
      @TheNandoAOE 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the feedback! I agree, at lower ELO you can make a lot of mistakes that never get punished, like having all army together, but as I climb the ladder, those mistakes get more and more punished, which I appreciate in order to grow out of them! I also do agree that getting raided once or twice in a place is normal and common, but if you have a constant weakness, you need to adress it and make the game easier on yourself. You played great that game with the early laming and the pressure! I'm usually more tilt-proof, but I had played 3 Teuton tower rushes the day before, and I was more salty that game, so sorry about my salt in game. Let's both keep doing our best, and I hope to keep running into you at higher and higher ELOs! 👊
