Just a small observation regarding the title..... a child cannot be an orphan if that child still have one parent. Then the child is either motherless or fatherless, but not an orphan.

In the middle of a desert without food and somehow the get to eat , you have to be short of a great heal of grey matter in the scull to believe this

One of very few stories where all the aliens in the universe speak English 🤣 Thank you for making it semi- believable considering there's 100 languages on the planet its not even reasonable to assume some universal translator could exist.

Good story but had a couple of glaring errors. 1. If the storm was so bad she couldn't see her reference points, she should have missed the outpost. 2. She barely gets home with the child and then the parent shows up and leaves with the child. Why not stay at the outpost and both use the blanket?

So she just rolled down the window in space and threw a “disrupter charge” at another spaceship? Rolled the window back up and kept going ? This is the biggest plot hole but not even close to the only one.
