Fiberglass is done | More Epoxy | Put on the Legs

The fiberglass and epoxy cured while I was gone. I have to sand down some of the rough/sharp spots and some of the drips. Then put some legs on it. It's almost ready

The wood trough hot tub I built 4 years ago finally sprung too many leaks. I'm going to use it to learn laying fiber glass.

Build a DIY Hot Tub from Wood

I wanted a hot tub but I didn't want a stock tank hot tub or some huge fiberglass unit. I wanted a similar shape to a clawfoot tub. This is what I created. See more pictures here: lorennason.com/2020/12/diy-wooden-hot-tub/ Find me on Instagram and Twitter @lorennason

I Made a Reclaimed Wood and Resin Lamp
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.7 лет назад
I made this lamp from a reclaimed piece of 4x4 from the shop. I hollowed out the inside with a drill press and forstner bit. Then drilled a bunch of holes on all the sides. The back area I used my Dremel and plunge router attachment to create a little shelf to hold a piece of curly maple to cover the back side. All the holes are filled with Polyester Casting Resin from Michaels. The lighting is...
Whats the story behind this?
No story. Just seeing if I can get my 10yr old Shapeoko3 to work better and relearn how to use it. Then make something fun 😁
Have you tried penetrating resin? If you could fit that whole thing in a vacuum bag you could get it epoxy coated. You'd need to get it real dry again though.
I fiberglassed it before I brought it outside (see previous vids). The tub is 4 years old and lots of rotten spots. I hoped my first attempt at fiberglassing I wouldn't get any leaks, but I did :( I really only did the fiberglassing to learn from the experience when I build another one
@@renlonason Makes sense. Looks sorta like bricks made of wood, right? You might get good results on round two by soaking each brick in a vacuum chamber full of cactus juice resin, then heat curing em, then building the tub and finally fiber glassing it.
Yes, I made a brick pattern with cheap box store construction lumber. Cactus Juice would cost a hell a lot :-) The main issue is the hole tub was rough causing spots where The fiberglass may have a pin hole here or there. It holds enough to stay in for a few days with just having to top it off. Got a good couple soaks in for New Years eve and the next morning.
Pump sounds like it’s starving for water psi ? is the pump mounted above your in and out circulation line ? I love the look of the tub wonder how the leaks could be solved.
The problem was too fold. That pump was 3 years old and the pump was shot. I got a new pump which worked somewhat better, but found the feed from the tub had some hairline cracks in the tubing (not really outdoor suitable) causing suction leaks. I replaced the feed line from tub to pump and new pump and now it works flawlessly. I'll try to put up a vid or short in few days. I fiberglassed the tub (first time) I hoped for perfection but the minimal leaks is way better than before. The tub is 4 years old and wood was rotting out. I wanted to learn / experiment with fiberglass so I can get ready to build a new tub.
Go back and look at the video. Did you run a STOP sign before you got into town?
lol "california stop"😆
Yep, @1:53 to 1:58
You should go to corkscrew BBQ. Best I've ever had.
thx I'll check it out
I hear it really helps if you put a layer of epoxy then last the glass down on top.. Like butter
that seems to be also a good trick. I started doing that a little bit towards the end when I was overlapping layers. I was able to stick the glass to the wet areas and then found it easier to finish wetting it out.
So cool. You didn’t say why you’re glassing it? Better durability? Water tightness? Miss you friend.
Oh.., and dude.. that’s why RUclipsrs run music over the sped up scenes. ;)
previous vid was why to glass it ;-) but basically for reasons 1 > wood was rotting out 2 > wouldn't hold water 3 > wanted to learn to apply fiberglass to prep for next tub idea ya, i know. I prob should have put some music in. But I did laugh at myself talking to myself and started talking gibberish and random crap LOL
How are you heating your tub?
I use a transfer pump to circulate the water through a propane water heater. When I get it put outside and ready to use i'll post a video on that. Hope in the next month.
nniccee - looks great
thank you
Hi - so I have the Ace Pro and Hollyland Lark M2 on order but in order to use the M2 I will also have to order the quick release attachment to mount the mic on with?
no, i haven't even used it yet with mine. I just let the receiver hang from the camera or I have velcro'd it to something to keep it flopping around
@@renlonason ahhhhhh you MacGyver'd it. I may as well. Thank you!
