It's unfortunate what happen to Edsel but that estate is nothing but Twentieth Century excess.
It really looks like a wonderful home.
Stomach carcinoma.
Where was this?
Ford History!
We have been through the Edsel and Eleanor Ford home and enjoyed the beauty and thoughtfulness they built for their family. It is just about the most memorable place we have ever seen.
From what I've learned thru the years, Edsel was a genius but his father continually overruled him. Some say the strained relationship deterred his health and was to blame for his early death. Thank goodness Edsel had three sons that made Ford a great company. Today I own a '55 Ford Victoria hardtop, all Ford and totally unmodified.
When they say his house, do they mean Fairlane? The Ford Fairlane was named after the family estate. Edsel saved Ford: closed production for 18 months & fought with his father but he was right: the Model A put Ford back on top.
Easel was a good man but he didn't have the killer instinct. Henry 1 was able to instill that instinct into Henry 2 for the success of the company. Edsel wasa good, kind man.
It’s amazing how different a father and son could be. Henry was an incredible inventor and far seeing businessman, but also a tyrant. Instead of being proud of Edsel and supporting him, he broke him at every opportunity. How can you be so wealthy and so very poor at the same time. Family is the greatest wealth a man can have.
Henry was jealous of his son
Henry Ford was a AHOLE ! Edsel was the man Henry new it to !
...Edsel would have deserved a better father... 😞 ...well...in fact EVERYBODY should have a better father than Edsel Ford...! 😞
Edsel Ford was a Nazi sympathizer.
It seems like another world when entering the gates of the estate at Gaukler Pointe. The stress and tension of the day are forgotten.Edsel and Eleanor moved as far away from Henry as possible without getting wet! God bless them!
Can’t take it with you, can you 😮
Jerk of a father like Henry, it's a wonder of nature he was one of life's true 'Gentleman'.
Too bad Edsel couldn't have outlived Henry & ran the Company for about 15 years! It would have been a MUCH better Ford Motor Co.!
My Uncle was Named Edsel after Edsel Ford and my cousen is also named Edsel. The Story I heard was when my grandpa worked at Fords in Detriot ,Edsel Ford would send his Limo to my grandpas house time and time again to ask my grandma for dinner. She said she told the driver to go and let mr.Ford know that they would come to dinner After my grandpa got off work..well not long after that my grandpa moved the entire family to California ...I ALWAYS wondered if Uncle Edsel was Fords kid and IF Ford Paid off my grandpa to take Uncle Edsel and get lost
It's nice to be rich.
His father was no good
Edsel Ford got lost in the shadow of his famous father, but in reality, he was very much responsible for the success of the FORD Motor Company. Henry often gets credit for Edsel's innovations and policies. He is sadly not recognised very much at all, however a book called The Arsenal of Democracy does a good job of telling how he, and not Henry, was responsible for the company manufacturing B24 Liberators for the war effort.
So, dad was quite the asshole.
Brilliant man, so sad.
His Dad was a Tyrant
Henry Ford was a mechanical savant. But he was terribly lacking in education and intelligence. Henry knew his son was far more educated and intelligent, so he needed to continually demean/dominate him to maintain his dominance as the head of the company. Henry was once a very happy person who unfortunately allowed others to take control of him and the company. A very sad story.
Henry Ford never lacked intelligence. he was not formally educated, and he was a harsh man. Lack of intelligence was not his issue.
I often heard it said that 'The good die young'... I've seen enough of life to be convinced it's true...
Obviously, we all owe Henry Ford a lot, but man, what an evil man.
To the same degree that his father was a superb industrialist, he was also a terrible father. With utmost respect for Edsel, he would have done well to go his own way.
What happened to Eleanor?
The scene in Ford V Ferrari where Henry II just finished his test drive with Shelby, he breaks down in tears. At first the audience is led to think it was from being scared of the GT40's speed and cornering but Henry reveals that he wished his Daddy could see this. His dad was Edsel.
Sad that cars destroyed humanity but how could they know that at the time…..oh wait they knew in the 70s
@@Wetcamerainc but what did you think about the movie? lol
The Edsel Ford home in Grosse Point is a must see. Many homes of the wealthy and influential are ostentatious and almost foreboding. Edsel and Eleanor wanted their home to be cozy, comfortable, and inviting, to be lived in and enjoyed. Though cozy the house is quite large without appearing so. Thank you Eleanor Ford for preserving your wonderful home for others to enjoy.
Gee, from the video, Edsel was a fit young man. He died too young. And Josephine was a beautiful lady.
I'm a scorpio I can't get along with leo for some reason.
Edsel most likely saved Ford by secretly styling and designing the model A to replace the aging model T. He was also responsible for the iconic styling of the 1930s and early 40s Ford and Lincolns
he died in 1943...he never saw the end of the war.
Edsel could not be more different from his father. I do not think I would have wanted to be friends with Henry, but I would have been privileged to have known Edsel.
Edsel knew the right way to run the Ford Motor Company. The loss of Edsel only hurt Ford.
It's a damn shame that Henry was such an asshole to Edsel. He wanted a clone for a son, which was impossible, as he was literally one of a kind!
Thank you for this tribute. I learned more about kind Edsel Ford. I knew he was nice, unlike his irascible father became in older age. But I didn't know how distinctively nice, warm, and kind Edsel was. Edsel helped bring Lincoln into the Ford family. I think he did some design work too, such as on the Lincoln Zephyr.
Don’t forget Mercury, as well.
If you had Henry Ford as a dad you can see who killed hlm
ford THE CURSED MOTOR COMPANY.
Thank You Edsel Ford. Thank you as well Edsel Ford II. It was good speaking to you about the old Ford tractors at Dearborn truck plant when i had the pleasure of meeting you. I told you of my 4th Generation Family Legacy. My Great Grandfather who started at Ford Motor Company in 1916. I will be the last in my Family to continually work at Ford Motor Company. I will retire in 2024, with over 36yrs employment. My Great Grand Father, My GrandFather, my Father and I have been a working Family at Ford Motor company for what will be over 108yrs. With a combined work time greater than 120yrs. Thank you, Ford Motor Company, for helping my Family, who were Polish immigrants, provide a good working wage and life and future for many years. Supporting the future lives of generations of my Family. Sincerely, Frank John Balowski
It’s my belief from reading about of Ford family history and the workplace that there is much owed to the skill and effort of Edsel in the placement of Ford Company on the world scene. Much more than has ever been acknowledged.

Edsel had a new suit for every day
Is there any truth to the rumor that Henry 2 is Henry's son?
He's Edsels' son.
By all accounts Edsel Ford was a warm and generous man who was treated harshly at best, by his father Henry. This is a wonderful video, marred only by poor closed captions. "Edzel?"
Did you also know his wife was the owener of Hudson stores, i think it was, like a Sears store, and she did it herself before meeting Edsel.
In 1908, J.L. Hudson, owner of a Detroit department store became an investor in an existing auto company, perhaps Chalmers-Detroit, lending his name to a car that remained in production until dropped by American Motors around 1957.
Edsel was a MUCH BETTER Icon of the '50s than the SAD CAR THAT "branded" HIM!
