Using Your Green Water Machine and Making 5 Gallon Buckets of Green Water
This video thoroughly explains how to use The Green Water Machine and how to make five gallon buckets of green water.
The Green Water Machine is a one gallon jar kit that comes with everything you need to make your own live green water. I’m using “Green Water” as an umbrella term for a living culture primarily consisting of multiple species of single cell algae and other infusoria. This kit includes a live green water starter culture and comes with enough algae fertilizer/nutrient to make 3 gallons of green water. Algae fertilizer/nutrient and live green water starter cultures are also sold separately at www.phillipsfishworks.com/green-water

A microscopic view of the gunk in your natural aquarium
I wish you shipped to Germany. I'm glad that I found your channel.
Quality content, love how passionate you are when talking about it.
Hi! Quick question…. When it comes to scuds and isopods combined, do they predate on each other in anyway?? Or their populations remains stable? I’ve noticed scuds do interfere with shrimp populations quite a lot
Are you folks still in business? I've been trying to get in touch by the email on the website with NO luck.
I just recieved both orders of bag of bugs and Im so excited to add this to my natural aquarium. Thank you for such a great product, I'll be ordering more in the future!
Hope this isn't a silly question, would they live in a filter system?
I was thinking of adding skuds to a 75g tank im making.
What's a safe scud to shrimp ratio?
How could i get live scuds ?
I have leaf litter in jars on my windowsill. I have three tanks, all natural
i love freshmwater inverts, it seems like outside of shrimp they're an overlooked group. I really want a freshwater polychaete tank!
i read a scientific article about feeding daphnia yeast and spirulina being bad. they change morphologically as a response to being fed yeast/spirulina
this is my kind of tank
How do you keep them cool?
I just got some water and leaf litter from my pond and immediately saw a few when I got the jars settled. I'm hoping they breed so I can introduce them to my natural aquarium.
You talking about so many Fianacial RUclipsrs!!! They have circumstances help them and then pretend everyone can have what they have!!!
Ive never had any luck with these dudes. They can be found in a tiny creek not far from my home. Im thinking of trying again in the near future. I love all things isopods and aquatic isopods are cool.
I'm gonna see if I can find some for sale online that have been in captivity for a while and maybe I'll have better luck
A problem I had once was dead scuds blocking up the holes in a spray bar. So just a heads up on that one.
Was the betta eating cherry shrimp adults too or just the babies?
I like the term "rubble" to describe this type of habitat. I think it's an often overlooked category of hardscape/substrate. It makes things look much more natural, doesn't get in the way of "aquascaping", and it is unbelievably beneficial for the biodiversity. Leaves, wood bits, seed pods, shells, and rocks are all in this grain size range, and are perfect for this and look awesome. The fun thing is that you can add larger animals on top of this, and they'll do similar things with larger sizes of rubble. Things like dwarf crayfish and ghost shrimp in particular will share these behaviours at a larger size. Also, don't overlook other invertebrates. Most people would never think about this, but you can keep small species of bivalve like fingernail clams even without a filter. Small species are designed to still be mobile, and will move around the tank as they deplete the particulates in each area over time, and basically become tiny living filter pumps themselves. Tubifex worms also, they stir up the water as a way to get fresh oxygen to themselves. Even more 'showy' snails like trumpet snails will do well, and of course freshwater limpets are unique and interesting as well. The biodiversity you can hit almost for free is really surprising, and largely without any active feeding. If you're really thorough, you can set up a natural resource exchange system and make it truly unfed. The trick is a terrestrial bank with plants that will drop their own leaves and seeds slowly over time. I'm using a small fruit-bearing fig bonsai right now, and it's taken to hydroponic conditions _very_ well. Nitrates out of the water, into the leaves, leaves fall into the water, feeding the animals, fertilising the water and substrate, etc.
First found these guys in a park river in NJ. Kept a colony in a main tank, but surprisingly, a spare container with literally nothing but already old leaf litter from their river and like an inch of water with plastic wrap on top kept a colony of them going literally undisturbed for most of a year, with higher numbers than when it started. It wasn't even meant to be a colony, the container was just forgotten about. They can be VERY hardy.
How long before each batch begin to crash?
If by chance you have a fish that died, the scuds love them. It's truly amazing how fast they'll make it disappear.
I just collected a jar (leaves and the micro organisms) from a natural lake. It looks like I have some Hydra in one jar. Should I feed it to my danios and tetras? Will they eat them? Are they bad to introduce to the tank environment overall and should I just let them die in the jar?
All the microfauna i got from you i put in to 10 gallon aquariums, and ive been feeding the cut up squash and zucchini very thin slices and they absolutely love it tony. Once every 2 weeks. Just enough where they can eat in 2 days cause its always gone. Ive tried so many friuts and vegetables in both the tanks. Both those tanks have hundreds of scuds and snails other microfauna. I take my fine net or just take out the floating plants or hornwort into a container and i put them in my fully planted community tank at night to give them a chance to live. But in the morning when i turn my lights on within 20 minutes i see the fish zooming around chasing them its fun to watch. My to 10 gallon tanks both have sponge filters and a few pieces of driftwood with java moss. I noticed the scuds really like the java moss.
Love your kit, I'll be ordering soon! Are moina able to live and reproduce alongside fish? I'm looking to create a freshwater ecosystem that isn't just fish, snails, and shrimp.
my wife wanted me to let you know that we feed our cherry shrimp yellow squash. the daphnia seem to really like it.
I'm new to natural fish tanks and reserection jar. This was really helpful for me
I always notice when you grow things the natural way they end up growing better even we benefit from natural foods.
What are the components of algae nutrients
What do you do when daphnia population increases and with it ammonia also increase, what is the solution for this?
exceptional.
Can you put the balls right in the tank?
Do defania caluture need airpump?
Great video.
Love this man.
i listened to this video like a podcast while i did all my tank maintenance. 10/10, i could listen to you ramble about microfauna all damn day.
I got one of da fish ones
How do you keep a tank like this from stinking? Set up a tank like this but lots of mulm and sewagy smell
Are those all females?
Incredibly great content. Do you take newbie questions?
Hello, are you Father Fish's son?
Best thing would be to use a seperate set of all the tools for daphnia and moina to avoid contamination.❤
Damn good ❤
this is very interesting would like to see more on this subject. i am considering getting some of these for a future project but would want to find more info on them first .
What's that green and white stuff that the scuds and shrimp are eating?
Thank you thank you thank you
What’s in the fertilizer or what’s it made out of?
Can they live in the aquarium? Are these what they call detritus worms? Sorry for the dumb questions... I just got my 55 tank stable and want to start a food web.
Any scuds in my tank will have lots of shrimp and snails to compete for food.
