Lucky Stones
Великобритания
Добавлен 25 мар 2019
Hello and welcome to Lucky Stones! I’m Chris, a palaeontologist and enthusiastic fossil hunter/collector from the UK. I thought it'd be fun to share my experiences as I hunt for fossils! I'm based in the South so I'm most often on beaches around here, but hoping to show you the joys of fossil hunting anywhere I go :)
Yorkshire Fossil Hunt! Dinosaur Footprints and Ammonites
Hope you enjoy this video of my fossil trip to Yorkshire as much as I enjoyed being there and exploring the coast for the first time!
It was a wonderful few days, thank you again so much to Mark and Mark for their great company and showing me around the Yorkshire coast. I’d also highly recommend the Middle Earth Tavern in Whitby for anyone in the area!
Join me next time on the beach for more fossil adventures:)
Also visit www.luckystones.co.uk for some lovely designs based on my fossil collection:)

bad music
Every time I go to the Isle of Wight to go see my nan we always go to sandown because it’s my fave place and it has the zoo and dino isle.
I really like fossils
I love fossils ❤
Just subscribed! Love to have more fossil content in my feed
Haven’t found any full skulls?
I wish!! Whole bones are rare let alone full skulls. If I ever get lucky enough to find one, I'll be donating it to dinosaur Isle Museum!
@@luckystones2291 I guess you have to dig deep.
How big were they? About 3 or 4 metres long.
that's not a bad estimate i'd say, for the big ones!
@@luckystones2291 there were 12 species of them and they came in different sizes.
Shame we don’t find many complete skeleton remains there.
Bro ate 10 tbs of pure caffeine
Great video , that Yorkshire coastline takes some beating 👍
We were going to go in but no one else I was with wanted to so we didn’t.😢 What’s making me regret it more is that it appears to be a museum with good lighting. Something I didn’t think possible.
Awesome!
Might go here tomorrow I need to catch a ferry early tomorrow and this beach is right next to it.
It's very tide dependent and there is a large sticky clay slip a few hundred metres towards Hamstead which is a tricky pass in wet conditions! Have fun climbing through the trees! Good luck!
That place looks great!
UKAFH run a hunt there once a year so could book a day trip for next year. Or book a stay in the cabin. It's a beautiful place
@@luckystones2291 awesome! Last time I went to a quarry with them was Whitmans hill which was amazing’
Saw lots of these cases at jurassic Jim. They’re really cool.
Beautiful!
Your eyes are amazing! Especially that first piece of bone.
Just found your channel. Looks good. I’m down in the Isle of Wight at the moment and I’m hoping to film some stuff myself.
Thank you! I've been outof action for a few months but looking forward to breaking the camera out soon! Good luck and have fun :)
I went down there today following this video and found some great stuff, I've walked past so many of those shells not knowing they were fossils
Boring
thanks for the feedback! What would you like to see?
Lovely to watch
going this weekend, can't wait
I'm kinda stumped If I ever go to Britain To find some fossils Whether or not You would invite me to stay for the trip Or I have to Live in a hotel or Air BMB
If you came to Britain (from where by the way?) to find some fossils I would be open to seeing where in the country you were hunting, and may be able to come and say hi. However you would need to organise your own accommodation.
How they keep finding them
It's hard work! Lots of walking, patience and a bit of luck!
Great video and finds too! I’m off up to Whitby next year and plan to spend a couple of days fossil hunting while there
A pleasure to be able to accompany you on this trip Chris x
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
beautiful finding feel the shaking hands
Im just who would take every rock in there?
So how many million years old is it?
somewhere in the region of 35 million years old.
@@luckystones2291 Why do you believe that?
@@dulls8475 it's not a matter of belief. A combination of dating methods has well established the age of these deposits. Deposits of the same age are known from many locations worldwide and correlate precisely using planktonic microfossils and magnetic stratigraphy.
@@luckystones2291 You miss my point. What empirical science shows it is 35 million years old? You just gave me the systems used.... Are the fossils old because of the method of dating or old because of the strata they are found in?
Would you ever be able to plaster it maybe or do an impression of some sort? 😊
It might be possible to do that. I didn't have any plaster of paris with me. Honestly I wasn't expecting to find something that exciting!!
It’s kind of hard to do an impression of an object. You must be great at charades!
That’s amazing!!!
And did you find it on the iow?
That’s amazing! where did you get it I may have to get one for myself 😅
I found the ammonite in Dorset between Charmouth and Stonebarrow. That's a good place for pyritized ammonites. I got the display boxes off amazon 🙂
@@luckystones2291 oh ok! Thank you for letting me know :)
That’s the jaw of a very dead dear
Umm, no.It is clearly the lower left jaw of a crocodilian, specifically Diplocynodon from the Oligocene deposits on the north side of the IOW. Deer jaws look significantly different.
At 11:55 that sound effect is enough to shit anyone's pants, mine included. 😰😰In fact the dinosaur sounds are enough to give you a panic attack.
🤣I liked the sound effects... mostly... that one got me!! lol
Great stuff. I went to Barton today and managed to find 5 shark teeth.
I've been to the hut and quarry for the last three years. I absolutely love it there. This year I probably spent the least time in the quarry over the 4 days I stayed at the hut but had the most success. I mostly concentrated on picking apart the cliffs rather than breaking rocks that were already loose. I'll be back next summer and every year until I get a huge and complete trilobite. I enjoyed your video, so thanks very much.
Sorry but Your panning is way too choppy
Appreciate the feedback. I do need to improve on the camerawork! Hope you enjoyed the video anyway!
Have you ever been to Compton beach? I’ve found an animite on that beach a few years back!!
Hola me encanta todo lo que hace y como lo explica.

Wow
great finds chris :)
where is this
It's down on the South West of the Isle of Wight. Beautiful stretch of beach there
@@luckystones2291 nice i might go there one day
nice finds!
Some great little finds 👍
Can’t wait to watch this! I’m a new subscriber :)
hope you enjoy it!
The tooth?
Nice find!
How do you know that
Once I'd given it a wash it was clear. The honeycomb internal structure of the bone was visible which distinguished it from fossil wood. As for how I knew it was from a dinosaur, the vertebrate fossils from that beach are from Cretaceous dinosaurs. I was delighted to have found it!
@@luckystones2291 oh that's cool bro, I hope to go hunting for fossils myself some day. A megalodon tooth would be my dream, I own one but i only bought it haha
@@gibraltar4841 I would LOVE to find a meg tooth! The shark teeth I hunt are way less cool. I own 2 small ones but I only bought them too LOL. Finding is so much more satisfying than buying, but I can't fly to Florida or South Carolina on a whim! #oneday :)
