Hi Jon, if you use free plugins on a Mac you need to know how to authorise them. This is because Apple Mac charges the developers $99 for the plugin to appear on their list. But if you look at the Help page on the Witch Pig Help page, there are links to several videos that tell you how to get around this. Although if you are using certain versions of Logic on a Mac you might then find that Logic blocks the animation file. I think I've found a way around this so with the plugins I've got that use animations, I'll probably end up doing the animations differently.

Thanks Tom , yes I read about the methods on the help homepage … so far I’m not comfortable with some of the steps …I’m not on an mchip. I hope to get this plugin someday soon . Thanks for answering me back . I’m just not ok with full hacker mode …I’ve never gone that far just yet (not your fault or problem )I never had to use “terminal “ rename my internal drive …. to install a plugin …only allow plugins from unknown developers…temporary etc . Once again I appreciate your help. Hopefully one day the process will be easier less risky etc…Thank you

@@JonRayRunawayVealMusic Hi Jon, fair enough. It's not really hacking, it's just self authorising but I understand why you would be reluctant. I only own a PC so this isn't an issue for me. If I was doing this for money I would need to buy a Mac as well, and liceneses for all the different DAWs for testing, and also pay Apple Mac for authorisation, but as I'm sure you understand, most bedroom developers don't want to do this. Having said that, I might end up paying the $99 to Apple Mac a year, as I think this would allow 3 plugins a year to be automatically authorised for Mac users.

Do you mean the link to the web site or the Dropbox link you get after clicking on 2.Download (after clicking on 1.Subscribe)? I just checked and they both worked fine. Maybe your security is blocking access to an unknown Dropbox folder? If you still have problems after checking this, let me know and I'll message you directly with a Dropbox link.

If I do a Version 2.0, I might add a Mix and Filter knob, and a button along the toolbar to give users the choice to see something like a histogram instead of the epilepsy inducing animation!

This was never meant to be an exact copy of the Symphonic Preset, or was even modelled on it. This is something I did a couple of years ago as a kind of learning project following a discussion about how Soundtoys hadn't released anything new for years (at that point) and what they should do as a new plugin. I suggested something along the lines of the SPX Symphonic preset, so decided to have a go at it myself. The plugin is certainly stereo, although Symphonic was never a delay or reverb preset. I know that the hardware unit ran at a slightly higher bit rate, and that not all units were that noisy, but I settled on 12 bit and that level of that particular noise, as it simply sounded best when going into the (admittedly generic) chorus/flanger algorithm. It doesn't have the same spatial qualities as the hardware unit, either, but having later come across the exact code for that (again, 90s generic) and having implemented it, I ended up putting it back to my original attempt at varying each side as I simply thought it sounded better. Having said all that, if you are unsatisfied with the plugin, I would be more than happy to offer you a full refund!

Can you not open it all? I know that other Logic users had the animation blocked but the plugin still worked. If it doesn't open at all, you probably need to manually validate it, as I don't want to pay Apple to be on their list of authorised plugins. If you look at the Help page on the Witch Pig site, there are links to a couple of videos that tell you how to do this.

@@tomcootemusic Ah really？I'm in Ableton 11 and it works fine except the image. I tried again in Logic but crashed eventually. I guess it really depends on the operating system😢

@@yishengzhou4464 Oh, OK, I thought you meant it all worked properly in Ableton. Ableton and Logic don't seem to allow animation files for some reason but I didn't know this. If i do another one with animation, I'll do it so the animation is at least replaced with a static background image if it can't load.

It takes about 7 or 8 seconds from clicking on 'Subscribe' for the 'Download' buttom to become enabled. Wait another 2 or 3 seconds!

Hope you find a use for it. If not, maybe there are some other Witch Pig plugins you might like.

Mac or PC? VST3 or AU? Did you try the suggestions on the help page on the Witch Pig web site?

@@Abattoirville The only other people who have had problems that have had problems have been using Macs but if it's a PC it's obviously something different. Presumably you have other VST3 files in the same folder, which your Cubase recognises fine?

Sounds like you've had fun with them! I actually went through all 500 presets plus another 50 or so on the Eventide preset share site, and wrote down the interstingly 'useless' ones, the cool but not sure how I would use them in a song, and the more likely to actually use in a song ones. There are maybe 10 distinct unique useable sounds that I can't get out of anything else, at the moment, But I am going to see if I can reproduce them with my Fractal Axe FX (already pretty sure I can't convincingly reproduce Blackhole with anything else, although I already had this in a $29.99 plugin).

@@tomcootemusic The Blackhole was a bottomless pit of time spent trying to figure out what I was thinking when I bought it. I finally realized that I only heard what I wanted to hear in the demos. That was 6 months ago, I'm using better judgment now. Live and learn.

Yes, those presets are set that way. It's not just on one side, but it is set to 100% so the first repeat is the loudest and all on one side. If you set the Balance to 0.5 it will be in the centre, or 0.2 will be mainly left, or 0.8 will be mainly right. You can also reduce the Mix to blend it in with the original signal to taste.

The animation is a free GIF. I learnt how to add to use it in a JUCE plugin through a tutorial from Beats Bastein 3.

That's odd - when exactly does it say that? Did you download the VST3 file and put it into a folder that your DAW looks to for plugins? Does it load up the plugin in your DAW? What DAW and OS are you using?

@@tomcootemusicYeah, it's weird. My computer is a Macbook pro 2021, the CPU is M1 Pro, and the DAW I use is Reaper. Every time I load a plugin I get this word prompt. It doesn't matter if I load vst3 or au, I have the same problem. But the plug-in can be used normally, the delayed sound effects are also present, but the dynamic animation effects of the main interface are not displayed.

@@HyattyHyatty It sounds like the animation (actually just a GIF file) has either corrupted or can't load up for some reason. The only thing I can think to suggest, is simply downloading it again from the Dropbox folder, and copying a fresh VST3 into the correct folder.

The files are in a zip file in a view only Dropbox folder. As it it seems unlikely that your security software could actually unzip the files on the non-editable fileshare to even look for a virus, then I guess it just doesn't allow you to download zip files from a location it doesn't recognise. If that is the case, then you can always add it to your trusted locations. You should be able to google how to do this for whatever security software you are using.

If you still can't download the VST3 file, message me, and I'll send it to you as an attachment.

I hadn't thought about doing that but you could do a variation on the basic code to do something like that. Or you could just use the plugin to set up the mapping, and then record the midi it outputs to create a new midi file.

@@tomcootemusic I think the common situation is that people have lots of midi files in different mappings. You just have to buy two different samplers from different companies to be in that position. Rather than audition and record what you like, you could just batch convert the whole thing saving lots of time and trouble. If you or the community would come up with presets for converting say, Ezdrummer to BFD Player that could be a really useful software. Just a thought.

No IRs used - just straight out of those NAM profiles. I normally record my bass with my Axe FX2 and for that I use the Ownhammer Ampeg IRs. I also have the ML Sound Lab and Dr Bonkers bass IRs, which are far better than the stock Fractal IRs but not in the same league as the Ownhammer ones.
