What do you call th system used with th headphones so they can hear you and you hear them?
Will this work with the Roland FA 07 and Fantom platforms?
When was it?
This is great! Thanks.... one question - can you see the mainstage patch on the RD88 screen?
Yes
I’ve got questions..
I see it works with the fp 60. Does it also work with the fpx 60?
Thank you dear.Is the system very good ?
Just bought model 12 to use with my QSC k10 and acoustic guitar. This was bery informative.
I've had problems with every time I hit a key, MainStage sees it as the same input and plays it at the same level of sound no matter what, there is no key velocity...HOW TO FIX, I AM DESPERATE!!
cool/////////////////////
Xp208w mal sonido
You need to include sample of video and audio.
thank you , I just bought the model 16 tascam , thinking I can plug in speakers and roll, NOT!!! what do I need to use for live loud shows .please help me!
you either need powered speakers (which have built in amplifier) or a power amp and passive speakers.
This was very helpful, thank you!
Great video. Have you done a 102 series yet? I am curious how you use the compression knobs in the mix with the Tascam 16
I’m having an issue after switching the pedals round and setting the “soft” pedal to a sustain function… lots of MainStage patches are randomly leaving me with hanging notes
Nicely done Thanks. In place of the Patch change pedal, I am using a Leslie Off/On. Slow/Fast Pedal for Leslie rotary sounds on the B3 ( Acoustic Samples ) .
Can you explain how you connect you keyboard to Mainstage to use it as an external instrument? I like the sound of my Roland rd 88. I want to know how to setup to use it as an external instrument.
So does Main Stage have many different sounds? I've never seen it except for this video. Judging by the menu on the left side of the laptop, all the sounds looked very basic. And judging by the two sounds he played it was just a basic organ and electric piano. There's 3000 sounds in the RD-88. Why go through all this trouble? What am I missing? Serious question. 😊
MainStage comes with a ton sounds, synths and the ability to use third-party plugins.
Is there less latency on a xlr?
Great tutorial! I do have one question if you're able to answer it. On my set up (RD88 and MainStage), the external control setting is adjusting the Roland internal sounds volume, as well as mainstages. I'd like to set it up so the Roland is an emergency back up sound source. Obviously, diving into the menus to turn local back on isn't ideal. You were able to separately control the Roland volume from Mainstages using that external vol knob. Is there a setting I'm missing that separates the two? Thank you
Fuck Control Port? wtf?
HOW DO I CONNECT THE XP312w
Great video - Thanks - Subscribed today. Peter.
In the video (5:27) you turn off the internal piano sound by turning the EXT CTRL Setting knob down, and only the Mainstage sound plays. When I do that I lose both internal and Mainstage sounds. How were you able to to turn off the internal sound by turning the EXT CTRL Setting knob down? Is there an internal setting for that feature? I can can turn off the internal sound by changing midi Local SW to 'off'. I like the idea of just turning a knob down to cut off the internal sound, vice making a system setting.
Can you plug multiple keyboards into Mainstage and have them each toggle through different patches on their own? For instance, can I have Keyboard 1, Keyboard 2, and Keyboard 3 routed to the same computer running Mainstage and each be able to play their own patches for a show?
Nicely done.
Samson xp312w - 1. How is it compared to Bose S1 pro in terms of sound quality and loudness ? 2. Loudness- Is one unit loud enough for a hall with seating of Approximately 150 people? 3. Background /white noise from included microphone, does it feel disruptive or its fairly quiet ? Thanks for the information.
Hey! 1. Comparing it to the S1 is a bit tough. The S1 doesn't use a traditional 2-way speaker construction, so they don't project sound the same way. The Samson will have much better projection over distance, where the S1 will have a wider spread, with high frequencies tapering off more significantly over distance. Personally, I like the sound of the S1 better, however I only really use it as a personal monitor more than anything. 2. The xp312 is noticably louder than the S1, and will be much better at addressing a larger crowd. I don't have official measured SPL between the two, but I'd say the XP312 sits about 5-7 dB louder. 3. The included wireless mics don't introduce a noticable noise. Just make sure to get the right transmission bandwidth for your area to avoid interference from outside RF signals.
How do you fix a USB mic's white noise
Hi Justin! It ultimately depends on what model of microphone you have. Some models will be naturally noisy, but you can mitigate that by turning the gain down if possible. You can also try keeping the USB cable away from other cables to avoid errant electromagnetic interference.
i do not have the icon in system preferences for the rd-88 ... little help? I went to sit and installed driver
Same here. But RD-88 in Mainstage still works (the following mapping/perform steps work).
So, they are more for speech use?
They can be used for Speech, music playback, or live audio. They're pretty flexible all-use speakers, you'll just have to know what size audience you want to address, and get the speaker that best reflects that volume output.
What software is this? 0:21 It comes with the malletSTATION? Thanks!
The problem with the workaround is that if you do want to combine mainstage with internal sounds from keyboard, the internal sounds won’t now respond to the sustain pedal cause it’s in the wrong port. Surely there’s a way to fix the patch changing issue without changing up the ports?
I use a NanoKontrol 2 to provide extra midi assignable controls. Works perfectly.
Thanks for the video. I cannot find a way to send program changes from mainstage to RD-88 for the internal sounds (not scenes) when the USB is setting to vendor mode. So i could use internal sound selected from mainstage patches. Do you know a way to do this?
Very informative vid, thanks, I have model 12
I just click the daw control button on the front panel left of screen, then straight away you have the option to have internal, external or both internal and external sounds.
Does the rd 88 have audio return if you connect it to an iPhone via USB
What happens if my computer is not immediately reading the RD-88?
Thank you very much for this video. Great. Both Volumes (of MainStage Sound AND Upper 1 Sound of RD-88) are on the knob 7. In the video there is only the sound of Upper 1 RD-88 on this knob. Any workaround about this matter? Would be great! Thanks.
Same here. This use to work for me on FW version 1.02 but I just updated to 1.13 and now upper 1 also turns down MainStage.
Why do you like to turn off the sounds completely? If mainstage crashes you are doomed.
You can only use Mainstage with a Mac.....and not even an iPad.
Can RD-88 be used with MainStage only or any other DAW too?
Thank you so much for this video , it really helped me . One question , I also have a Steinberg UR22 , If I use it to connect Roland RD88 to mac book pro , would this reduce CPU usage ? Or is not necessary with this Roland ? Many thanks
completely agree with everyone..clear, simple explanation. Finally got it to work because of your assistance. Thank you
Hi thanks for your tutorial. I have just bought the rd 88 and have followed all your instructions to get mainstage working with the keyboard. I have the internal and mainstage sounds playing and when I go to turn down the internal sounds it makes the volume on the mainstage sounds go down also, have I missed something, any help would be appreciated!
The Upper 1 knob is controlling some of the volumes in mainstage and I haven't touched the daw control button. Even when I set local sw to off the upper 1 knob still controls some volumes in mainstage.
I think I've the same problem. Rerouted the knob in MainStage. MainStage - Edit - Assignments & Mapping - New Assignment. Device (All), Channel (1-16), Number (7 Volume). Then I left it unmapped. Seems to do the trick, but who knows...
@@sandersson8074 Thank you so much. You're solution was the only thing that helped me.
I am having issues using selected internal sounds from within Mainstage using an external channel strip and the MSB/LSB midi commands.
The PHA-4 (standard) action is tried and tested, even comes with the Roland FP-60 at substantially higher cost. Many even consider it better than the PHA-50 in the RD-2000. I consider the RD-88 a Best Buy stage keyboard with its SuperNatural acoustic and electric piano engines plus 3000 classic Roland Zen-Core sounds. It even has MainStage compatibility and speakers. Just wonderful.
I like my RD-88 but I wish it had a rotary knob because navigating the menu is painful.
I recently bought the RD 88 and I am thrilled with it. It's a great great keyboard.
Roland seem to be playing a marketing trick with their description of their PH4 actions. In fact there are 3 variants: Lowest: PHA-4 Standard (RD-88) Mid: PHA-4 Premium High: PHA-4 Concert Highest:PHA-50 (RD-2000) They are allowing descriptions of various products to use “PHA-4 action” to falsely imply that pianos have better quality responses than they do because the word “Standard” can be missed out. The PHA-4 Standard action is flawed, with a clicking sound that has developed in around 20% of their devices after several months of ownership (source Roland owners forum) it’s the cheap device they use to provide escapement. I’ve owned a ton of Roland stuff over the years, but the RD-88 is to be avoided. It has cheap, wobbly plastic Jack and midi sockets, the audio interface doesn’t recognise iOS (Yamaha keyboards do) ie RD-88 does not have class compliant drivers. The menu/navigation system is a nightmare, and the speakers are a joke. Additionally, Roland have switched from sliders to rotary knobs which are really vunerable to damage and easily snap off when using a transport case (as we all do when gigging). It is nice and lightweight, but heavily overpriced as Roland have cut so many corners with this. Prices are all dropping worldwide.....for good reason. (From £1065 to £915 in the UK -Dec 2020)
Does anyone know if the usb output has “class compliant” drivers? Ie. Can I Connect my iPad/iPhone into the USB (using Apple camera connection kit) and play iPad sounds out of the main outputs of the RD88? I use a lot of organ sounds live, and love the sound of GarageBand’s drawbars on iPad/iPhone. The Roland seem quite average in this department? Thanks for a great video it’s really helpful
