Wave damping by seagrass - High wave velocity
The video show how the model seagrass meadow move in response to waves. We conducted experiments with different wave velocities. The wave conditions we used in the lab overlapped with a wide range of field conditions with wind waves.
The meadow of model seagrass was constructed with individual plants consisting of six LDPE (low-density polyethylene) blades and a cylindrical wooden stem. The wooden stem (grey part) mimiched the sheath of real seagrass. Two plants were colored black for better visualization.
When there are no waves, the plants are stationary so that the blades are upright. However, when the wave exists, the blades will move in response to the flow.

shoutout to doctor zaib!
Great content
Such a good video! Eye opening and good music also, almost like music from a Disney film like a ratatouille or a tangled!
There is something about these old educational videos that just screams high quality to me.
Obscure stuff
@2:10 "...and after a little practice, with plentiful use of the eraser..." absolutely sick burn
I came here due to dyatlov case.

If you're watching this, chances are that you are studying hydraulics... so hydraulic jump happens when the flow changes from supercritical state to a subcritical state, and this oscillating jump is very undesirable when designing a hydrostructure because it is uncontrollable, the Fr (Froude number) of this is between 2.5 and 4.5!
Rotational? More like "Really great and educational!" Thank you for sharing this. 👍
That was GREAT :)
non si capisce un ca...😄
That stopping vortex that we see is the one that produces lift in an aeroplane wing by the Magnus effect. A very nice demonstration!
This is about the lowest quality video, known to mankind
Nice demonstration that flow can go round in circles and still be irrotational. In an asymptotically subsonic fluid, sound waves travel at very high speed to get the fluid moving. However rotation or vorticity only travels at much slower speeds by convection or diffusion. Initially vorticity is only present at boundaries.
Absolute bullshit. Kelvin's Circulation theory: DΓ/Dt=0 relates to conservative flow fields : no net change in energy, no work done. Fluid flow around a body causes energy losses due to friction and turbulence. Kelvin is turning in his grave!
Je trtavaille sur une équation pour les flux de Karmann, qui remplacerait Navier-Stokes, en beaucoup plus simple, évidemment.
are zara zor se bolo bhai
Is it turbulent bursting due to sweep and ejection?

Now, what channel were you watching about this? :D

I wish I had seen this video when I took my first fluid dynamics course. Very ilustrative.
🙃
wow ...how wonderful things i just saw ...
Very helpful to understand flow👌
“Blood Hammer” sounds like a Norwegian heavy metal band
Regarding the hanging cylinder, This is known as Lift Galloping. There is negative aerodynamic damping being added to the system (mass-spring equation of the hanged cylinder), which means that the flow gives (transfers) energy to the cylinder instead of damping as commonly known in a viscous fluid. The negative damping comes due to vortices is shed alternately at the downstream generating a harmonic force with a frequency that eventually will coincide with the natural frequency of the cylinder as the speed of the flow increases. Also, in the solution for the equation of the motion will appear a term of (e^positve number) which means exponential growth of the amplitude of the motion of the cylinder.
Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR. You added a whole new property I have to look into in my research into applications of water/fluid phenomena

Something so surreal about old science videos
So true 🤣😂
Agreed
Do you know what "surreal" means ? Ridiculous !
Bad curve or slipped disc
How did this 7 years old video get into my recommendations
These transitions are on point yo!
What a beautiful fractal.
Oh wow cool a comment at last after 7 year
Thanks !!

dont know why, but i like to hear these lessons from such old videos ...
They are genuine that's why. Today's lecture videos are focused on gaining views and sUbsCriBerS instead of explaining the topic.
Because they address the origin of the concept
why vertical move ?
Cheers for this, been searching for "what is flow by mihaly csikszentmihalyi?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Fiylianaton Glorious Framework - (search on google ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to hack your flow state and succeed without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my brother in law got great results with it.
i swear these old engineering videos are so much better than what's put out these days. I think it's the fact that the newer stuff just assumes that the audience can't follow the technical details so they just gloss over it. Personally, i'd rather not be coddled.
Who else (in future) came here after reading Robert Greene's first chapter on Irrationality and Rationality under "The Laws of Human Nature"?
Excellent video on flow separation. Thanks for sharing this.
Next video will be about “wow and flutter” in analog sound recordings - Brahms 3rd Symphony, in this case.
