Thank you Roy Eaton :-).
The juxtaposition of Linda Sutter and Paul Parker was a bit ironic, as both had involvement (at differing times in their lives) with the comics. Mr. Parker, in the 1940's and '50's, was a penciller and inker, generally for Lev Gleason's publishing empire, working on titles like "Crime Does Not Pay"; Ms. Sutter left the news business in 1982 to become a story writer for the "Brenda Starr, Reporter" comic strip, a position she would hold through 1985. Also, it was with the "New York WINS" ad campaign, that anchors and reporters were finally permitted, for the first time since Top 40 days in 1965, to refer to the calls as the word "Wins." As in "Wins Newstime __:__" or "_____________, Ten-Ten Wins, at ______________." Before that, their having to spell out the calls all the time reminded me a tad of the situation depicted in the famous "Grammar Rock" number "Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla." Kate Doordan was one of the first female news anchors at the station, lasting to the early '80's. I remembered her as part of a trio of midday anchors - George Burgeson at the top, ? on the bottom (sometimes Don Baldwin). She was basically Eileen Douglas' predecessor in that capacity - and shift.
Best business song…ever.. I believe I caught this on Broadway in 1970…Schubert theater 😺
A sad day!
This commercial brings tears to my eyes reminding of my teenage days the 70's.
Coke might have its own merits! But Pepsi always had better sounding jingles and music. Especially with the famous music to watch girls go by!! A fan and an admirer from Pakistan.
I first saw this ad on a Bob Hope Special. He had a long term relationship with Texaco, Chrysler and NBC.
RIP WCBS Newsradio 88 (1967-2024)
Singer: Ron Dante (who sang for the Archies songs).
Is the solo singer Jake Holmes?
This a cover from some folk song but which one?
i ate 2 of these soaps as a child
I wearing a Dr Pepper shirt!
I remember this jingle so clearly, that I was able to "sing along" every word, including the background vocals! This jingle was used in Gino's commercials (Radio & TV) in 1975 & 1976 ( they just updated beginning of commercial to say "1976" instead of "1975") during Phillies telecasts on WPHL-TV Channel 17 and especially on WCAU Radio 1210 Phillies broadcasts. Still can't believe what a "bonehead" move Gino's made when they discontinued the "Gino Giant" (a doulbe deck hamburger similar to the Big Mac, but introduced years before the Big Mac) in favor of the rectangle shaped "Hero Burger!" The Hero Burger was SO unpopular, that Gino's revenue fell and within a year, the Hero Burger was gone and the Gino Giant returned!!
My dad wrote this :)
Always loved that jingle.
I don’t think WPIX agreed with that statement lol
This was from around 1974.
Not sure if these jingle folks should get a gold medal or rot in hell for eternity. Whatever the case, so many of them are still deeply-embedded earworms stuck in my head since childhood.
By any chance do you have the version where the lights go out - it must have aired as a closing, or have opened the Late Late Show.
... "It's inevitable" --- Jean P Shepherd
I remember this commercial, heard it every day on school bus
one of the sounds of my childhood
They used a jingle one time based on the song "Bad case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)."
I remember this commercial, in fact I worked at a Texaco in El Paso, TX. Nowadays you have to pump your own gas....
I grew up in El Paso. Which Texaco station did you work at?
I saw in pawn gold silver greetengs from Argentina 🇦🇷❤.
🤦 Promo SM
Thanks, Mr. Villanti. I love this single, and this branding concept and/or ad campaing. God bless you.
1979 to 1999 and lost my job over glass bottles.
My idea is that they should resurrect this and let m'man, Brock Purdy of the 49ers ("Mr. Irrelevant") be the spokesperson.
In 1970 there was an animated commercial with a sped up version of this song featuring a bunch of little white men figures who looked like they were out of the "Ziggy" comic strip singing and dancing, I've been searching for it for YEARS! Do you have it?
"Check the phone book for a Beneficial office near you!"
Wow. It Is Beautiful.
Good effort...but let's face it, only One Channel in New York was "Alive" in the 70s and 80s (wink, wink)
That moniker didn’t come to fruition until 1976-77. This was from ‘74.
Can you have a song-length version of one of the KIIS/90 package from, JAM Creative Productions?
When there were service stations.
This theme was used as a leitmotif in the exit music to the classic EPCOT Center attraction Horizons, which was sponsored by GE for its first ten years. I had my doubts at one point because the only GE commercial with this jingle I found literally only had the "we bring good things to life" bit at the end, and I didn't think that was enough evidence, but listening to the whole thing here, yeah, a lot of this was used in the score. Apparently this was also used in the exit music for the original incarnations of EPCOT's IllumiNations nighttime spectacular. I guess that was sponsored by GE as well?
Update, I looked it up and it turns out GE totally was a sponsor for the original IllumiNations. So there you go.
Damm. It feels like 1977 again.
This was not the "Texaco Star Theme." That was "Oh, we're the men of Texaco. We work from Maine to Mexico." "You Can Trust Your Car" was more than 10 years later.
That was the theme from, the Milton Berle show.
It sounds like a Petula Clark record even though she endorsed Coca-Cola at the time.
Early 80s I remember
50 years later I’m rocking my first Generals ever, Grabber ATX’s on a truck and RT45s on my SUV. The jingle was right!
Probably the best jingle ever for a commercial
Would have loved to see the dancing lemons again.
I thought I was the only person on the planet who remembered that commercial!
Six t 8 style
Right on
This jingle was just going thru my head & I couldn't remember what the commercial was for. Thank goodness for Google 😅
Great jingle
A memorable ad for Texaco. ⛽
I’m 61 years old and i loved watching the classic movies
What a great happy jingle!! They should bring this version back.
