    I think training splits will greatly depend on your age and what kind of shape you are in. If it helps I am 50 and my current split is Jiu-Jitsu Monday, Wednesday and Saturday with weight training on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I find that I get plenty of cardio during class and live rolling. Weight training is a great way to help strengthen your body and to improve your resistance to injury. If I was younger I would probably try to lift weights 3 days or more per week. Jiu-Jitsu is a long term effort and the more you can do to prevent injury the better off you will be. It is good to focus on the technique but I would not disregard the other aspects. Strength, speed, endurance, etc... are all part of it just like any other sport and relying on any one aspect will do you a disservice imo. If the playing field is level when it comes to technique you will then need to rely on other attributes like strength, disregard this at your own peril. Being a very large and strong individual I was told to "stop using your strength" many times and the statement always perplexed me. One day I researched this and came across this article which opened my eyes on the subject and gave me a perspective I agreed with. www.bjjstrongonline.com/blog/Don%E2%80%99t%20Use%20Your%20Strength%20in%20BJJ%20is%20TERRIBLE%20Advice#:~:text=Why%20Is%20Strength%20Frowned%20On,rely%20on%20your%20strength... "I do believe that when two athletes are of matched skill level, the stronger man will generally win." - John Danaher I hope some of this helps those that read it!

  • @jasonskeel6474
    @jasonskeel6474 7 дней назад

    Another thing you can do, especially as you get older, is to have a proper warmup including dynamic stretching prior to rolling. You should save your static stretching for afterwards as it can temporarily decrease muscle power and performance by inhibiting the nervous system's ability to quickly activate muscles, potentially leading to a reduced ability to generate explosive force needed for many activities, making your workout less effective

      My jiujitsu has benefited from a routine off Press-ups, pull-ups and dips followed by a cross trainer on a high resistance for quick 1 minute bursts with slower 1 minute rounds in between and do this for 10/12 minutes at a time. Finish off with stretching for 15 mins at least.

    Will you help me develop this friendly BJJ community? Regardless of your belt colour, if you'd like to support me by jumping on a zoom call to answer the following 3 questions: 1) What made you want to start training BJJ? 2) How does BJJ helps your life off the mats? 3) Why do you think someone should train BJJ? that would be truly awesome and if so please book a chat via this link. calendly.com/mydadmissions/get-more-listeners-podcast-production-intro PS As a thank you, I would be more than happy to send a happy birthday video message to you or whoever on your or their birthday.

    Great advice mate. I’m a music teacher who trained a lot through to my mid 20s. After loosing my brother (and nearly my mind) a year ago i started training regularly again at 44 with a great academy. Can’t recommend anything better.

      Thank you so much, Nathan. I really appreciate your comment and support. More importantly, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you. Absolutely no pressure at all as it's not for everyone, but if you ever fancy having a Zoom chat to talk about bjj, let me know, but again, no worries. Take care of yourself and let me know how it's going? James

    Good point at the end, I think the difference between lower belts and higher belts is the amount of things they do without thinking.
