Okanagan Lavender Gardening Tip: How to Prune Lavender in the Spring
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.4 года назад
Pruning is part of regular lavender maintenance - after your plants have finished blooming in the fall or before they start to throw new green growth in the spring, make sure to trim away all of the spent woody stems and flowers, leaving a neat green mound. If your lavender is very old or has suffered winter damage, trim away all of the dead, woody sections and try using the layering technique ...

    I noticed when you use the sickle to cut lavender blooms you did not go down close to base of plant like you did when you used scissors any reason why

      When you use a sickle you have a large handful and it is easier to cut if you can pull towards you. Also when we are distilling we want very little stem 🌿

    Thankyou for being there and for your video, I have been searching around to find the use of plants to help prevent ants, mice and rats as it stated on the internet that lavender scent is not what they like, would you know anything about this and to which has the most pungent scent please also that which I could grow to cook with. I have also been told that the scent can cause some prone to fits to trigger fits. Are there any that grow better inside of containers to those that grow better outside of same, and is there any insects other than bees and wasps that are attracted to Lavender also if I were to consider to grow in containers is there better sized type to consider, please. What is the best fertilizer and soil type for lavendar and best way to take cuttings and collect and keeping od seed please, thanking you in anticipation of your kind reply. Best wishes sent for a safe and happy life, Maureen

    Thank you so much, it is so therapeutic to watch your calming manner of creating wonderful products. I tried pressing violets in a heavy book but I can never get the simetrical flower. The longest pettals tend to become even longer as the peduncle (bottom of the flower) moves the pettals away after it is pressed. Do you have an advice for that?

    • @okanaganlavenderherbfarm1994
      @okanaganlavenderherbfarm1994 3 месяца назад

      I press mine facing towards the paper. Sometimes removing the stem completely helps and then gently press downwards on the flowers. There is definitely much variation in the dried blooms 🌿

    • @okanaganlavenderherbfarm1994
      @okanaganlavenderherbfarm1994 8 месяцев назад

      We use several different rosehips. I prefer the Nootka Rose for tea, they are quite tiny. That is just a personal preference though. I would ask at your local garden centre to see which is best in your growing zone 🌿

    OMG girl .. For the last 2 months, I bet I've watched, and google searched a 3 million sites about this.. lol Either they don't reply back. I've got told to toss them and get new ones next year.. 😡🤬 I put way to much love into these. I cant toss. I have to at least try .. Here is my little story. In June I bought 4 - 2" Spanish Lavender seedlings . My first time with Lavender They are in small fabric bags. They grew to 10-12" healthy plants. They didn't flower. I prune them down last week. I babied them all summer 😊 Last night I got a idea. I just found your video that had my idea 😅😂 I'm form Toronto Canada. I have a Florida room attached to the side of my house. The 3 walls are all windows. It's not insulated. It will keep bad weather off them. NOW I no , Spanish Lavender will be tricky. My thought was. If I put the 4 small bags into a empty Big fabric bag. Stuff it with leaves and grass .( I do know that makes heat.) And keep it in the room. Do you think that will maybe keep them alive? You answered 1 of my questions. That was , do I fill the big bag right up over the plants with leaves? You filled the box over that plant. ✔️ I'm confused because they say they need light Q-2 .. Am I trying to keep the roots from freezing ? Or the whole plants from freezing? I know gardening is about learning and failures.. This year I learned not to get Spanish Lavender again 😂😅😂😅 Thank you for this video. Cheers
