1934 Gibson L00 with Antique Tortoise Shell Pick
Просмотров 981Год назад
I just got done shaping this pick out of a piece of reclaimed antique shell. First pick I’ve ever made so it’s a little rough but it sure sounds good! NFS, nor do I have ANY intention of making them for sale, so please don’t ask 🙏

Guitar is a late 1938 rear braced wide neck Martin D28, strung with EJ17, played with a 1.5MM shell pick and a Barry Collins capo. Audio is just a Shure MV88 plugged right into my phone, recorded through the Shure Motiv app.

Stole the arrangement from the great Bob Minner and tried my best not to butcher it too much 🙏

Very Smart Idea to include in that video that excellent picker that is Molly Tuttle !👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Tuning?
That’s one hell of a guitar
Favorite one I’ve had to date and brother, I’ve had many 💯
Love it, Chill!
Wow!
Beautiful and Loud Mandolin !
Bravo!
Did you sell the guitar or is it still available?
80/20 medium here?
Beautiful playing! Can you please share the name of the last tune?
Great day this was
You still have it?
martin for the W
Hard to tell from RUclips. But you’ve got some great D-18s to play. I liked the Martin for its cache. Pre-war and Roofus sounded good to me too.
Very nice demo..The Ole Rufus 18 sounds brightest with least amount of bass/bottom end. Were the strings on each the same type, gauge and age? What strings were they? What flat pick and thickness used? Looks like and sounds like a TS. The 38 D18 is the most dry sounding , warmest to the point of sounding like aged strings, It does have the most bass followed by the Pre War.
Love that 38 D18.. what a tone..Have you tried D'Addario XS 13-56 P.B.? Does the 38 D18 have 80/20 on it?
Ear candy!
amazing amd ive seen many maggies,,,wow..thank you for sharing
If you want to sell that guitar let me know!
Those old D18s are sweeter than a cup of hot cocoa after shoveling the driveway.
7 years ago...hey, better late than never!
Put some phosphor bronze on that d28 and it will sound like heaven with that gibson with 80/20 playing them together with a pickin buddy
Dang.
I miss you man
What’s not to like?
So right … right there . Inspired
I like your style dude
It’s got the sound, you’ve got the chops
🙏
Nice firestripe pickguard, and great sounding guitar!
You have the nicest personal collection of acoustic guitars I've seen.
I wish I could keep them all, but sadly I don’t have the income required to do that. It’s all catch and release. The revolving door keeps things interesting though for sure
Let me know when your releasing, especially an L2 of that vintage
Very nice 🙌
I love your playing, Chill.
Nice....
Gibson takes the cake for me.
I’m guessing on value here, but that’s the most beautiful $100k could ever sound.
You and Flatpick Nation should upload a video of each other's one time and see if people notice
Like bill moroe I’m in the pines again
What was that first little song you played. Very nice little tune
Gibson has that nasally woody tone compared to the more open Martins. The D18 hits that middle ground for me
That was about as perfect as it gets!
Very nice
you're a great player man!
Really nice pickin. Your guitar sounds good even through these iPad speakers. I was confused on string choice, we’re they ej 17 or what? Thx. Good picking.
Thanks!! Yep, EJ17 👌
Sounds great bro. I wish you would do a lesson on how to play up the neck. Im having trouble with it.
Very nice!
Awesome playing and great comparison of three stellar guitars!!
The money you spent on pointless tattoos could've bought another nice guitar. Strange priorities dude.
The time you spent on commenting that, you could have been playing a guitar
@@TheGuitarsquatch when retired, you have all day every day to play guitar. I take time out to point out the obvious to the chronically blind.
@@alan4sure When rich, you have a lot of money you can spend on different things, like guitars AND tattoos. I take time to point out the obvious to those with dementia
@@TheGuitarsquatch and if you don't have dementia, you should have realized tattoos are a waste of money and you aren't being unique, you're merely following the herd. That's likely what you're best at anyway. Following the herd. What's the next fad you'll fall for? Do tell!
@@TheGuitarsquatch dementia???
That thing is siiiick
Have you tried the EJ22 on this D28? I tried them on one of my rosewood Martins and did not care for the results..subdued volume, tone etc..They sound better to me on Mahogany dreds....
Haven’t tried them yet but i suspect I’ll have the same experience. I loved 80/20 on my D18 too and they just do not sound good on the D28. Conversely, EJ17 weren’t spectacular on the D18 but the D28 loves them. Go figure
@@chillmonroe2672 Have you tried the new D'Addario XS 13-56 P.B.? If so, what dd you think of them?
That 38' D28 is a monster
what 80/20? Martin or D'Addario?
