X-T5 - CHEAP DISAPPOINTMENT
I was curious about the Fujifilm X-T5 since I had the X-T4 in the past but after getting it and comparing it to my previous X-T4 and current X-H2S I am thoroughly disappointed by it's build quality and sub par fit and feel.

All the RUclips hate is really making me want this camera!!! Everyone’s an expert lol
Maybe it's because there's plenty to not like about it. But if you don't mind all the drawbacks, then go for it.
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff I don’t mind your drawbacks
Saw some things in the S9 that I liked, so I purchased it. It's been super fun shooting with it so far, been getting great results. Looking forward to seeing what updates they give to it.
Glad to hear you like it, what lens are you using it with?
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff I've been using the 50mm 1.8 exclusively so far, but I recently ordered the Sigma 45mm 2.8 for it. The lens is coming from Japan but, should be here in a few days. Definitely gonna put it thru it's paces w/ the 45mm also.
half price six month later
S9 same price as A7Cii and ZVE1 in Australia
That is crazy, Sony is the value proposition now 🤣😱😂
lol
More like Lolmix 😅
a camera with phase auto focus and the talk about an f8 manual lense. ergonomics are that bad they had to give a smallrig grip to the influencers, and noone mentioned the extra cost of this. This release showed how bad everything is and how none of these youtubers can be trusted. i bet very few of them would have bought it with their own money. all we heard was - its fun, its got colours lol These youtubers are pissing in our face and telling us its rain. Then lets talk about the long term loan scheme - its a way for "youtubers" to evade taxes as its technically not a gift. Lumix helping youtubers commit tax fraud ? crazy
I wouldn't go as far to accuse them of tax fraud but it has definitely changed the way I'll be taking in information on any camera in the future...
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff the loan scheme is a massive tax free sweetener for influencers and could lead to a less than objective commentary. it needs to be talked about more as lumix is enabling it. How many long term loaners are actually recalled?
I'm sure they kill babies too, those evil youtubers :p
and that goddamn cold shoe! What are they thinking? When was the last time you saw a cold shoe in a modern camera? What worries me are all those influencers that talk about it like it's a great camera and hiding it's problems
This whole incident let us all see what's going un behind the youtube influencer curtain... I've been burned at least 2 times by reviewers I trusted so yeah... that's the world we live in...
The people they are targeting aren't people who use flash as it doesn't have a mechanical shutter anyway.
@@8739paulstep7 the people they are targeting aren't idiots either, they got options such as the zv-e1, zv-e10, a7cii, a6700, fx30, dji pocket 3, x-s20, really an abundance of choices that don't shortchange them
I never used a hotshoe on my cameras. Not really a problem with a lot of people !!
Böylesine komik bir hareket, hangi çekimde var , nerede böyle bir çekim yapıyorsunuz, daha gerçekçi senaryolar üzerinden yapmanız lazım testimizi.
if it can't handle something easy like this in a controlled environment then how can it handle anything realistic in the field?
100% agree - They should've gone for a MFT camera like a GX9 II (with a better grip than it's predecessor, the PD AF from the G9II, etc.) for this kind of vlogger style camera - what were they thinking to present such a small FF body to use with huge lenses? This thing is pointless..
Absolutely!
Well if they'll just replace an MFT sensor in the S9 body without evf, flip up screen, mech shutter and without hot shoe, and call it Gx9ii, it will really suck.
I'd take the S5 over the x100v every time. I think that you are exaggerating.I meant the S9 because I shoot videos over photos. I have the S5ii and a S5. It’s 1,499 in the US which is a little bit high but I’m going to get it because I know what I want to use it for. I respect your opinion but I will have to disagree.
S5? Of course I agree, S9=never
I'd take the x100vi over the S9 every day though, S5 is a completely different story though.
I know this is videocentric but i sold my X-H2S for poor stills AF. No matter what firmware, no matter what lenses, no matter what settings, AF on a moving target was terrible. I bought the camera for the promised AF. It never came. I just bought the R6MII, and even with the cheapest lenses and no settings changes the AF hits nearly 100% even when a dog is running straight at me. X-H2S, the S stands for speed. Meaning you can get more out of focus photos than ever before!
I totally get you man, been looking at the same camera but the canon ecosystem looks very problematic to me, if I had the cash I'd jump right in though...
But the main reason I haven't switched yet is the stacked sensor, I shoot electronic 90% of the time, no more shutter wear and the CF Express slot, can't live without CF Exp B now, I got a 2TB SSD in there and it's a gamechanger for me... Personally I just want to go one FW back to 5.03 for me, the hit rate was 90% for me.
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_StuffI never roll the firmware now that I actually do this for a living. I wait for reports on how it was actually doing firmware 5.03 sorted out most of the problems I had and though the afc still wasn’t anywhere near canon or Sony it’s still serviceable. And I get around an 80% keeper rate.
Wow I was skeptical I can reproduce the same test, but my XH2s with 16-55 is acting the same. This is crazy, the camera see the eyes and puts a box on it but it decides to switch focus to my hand. 😮
Exactly, and the wast majority of owners don't know about this because they just assume it's working correctly .... Unless they make a simple test that is.
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff I think the hard part is to get the camera to recognize the eye, and it does, and it does it very well to be honest. They just need to keep the focus there for as long the eye is visible. It's kind of crazy that it shows a focus box on the eye but the focus goes somewhere else 😂 I don't know why Fuji is tripping on it lol... They need to focus on the essential and important stuff and stop adding new features for now. The sensor is more than capable, everyone likes Fuji and especially the XH2's, but the AF keeps people away, AF makes people switch camera brands and it's mainly the AF.
@@mrsvetly couldn't agree more. That's what is so frustrating to me as well, they got the face, eye detection spot on, Fuji can recognise people from farther away than any Sony or canon! People can be as small as ants in the frame and Fuji will still r3conize them! But then when it comes to what I would consider the easy part, actually focusing on what it's detected, that's where Fuji is failing so bad... And I don't get why... Like that old saying "knowing is half the battle", but the second part is missing 🌗😑
@@mrsvetly I really really would hate switching from Fuji because I love their cameras but at the end of the day Fuji is like a beautifull woman that makes your life hell sometimes...
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff I really like Fuji but also I don't have any loyalty for any camera brand. It just really bugs me that they release a software and it supposed to fix and make things better and at the end of the day they made it way worse. I would understand if they had it released like that and improve after, but not the other way around lol. I would have no problem going to another brand if they don't get their AF working for camera that costs $2500 in 2024. I will give them a few more months. It is very unacceptable to show the focus on the eye and be on something else, while the xs20 work fine in the same scenario, smh! On top of that we can't roll back to an older version until they release a fix. Imagine, there's people making money with their products, I would be selling it immediately if that was me 🙄
My Fuji XS20 had the same focus problem, it was practically unusable for video after the firmware update. So far I have not received any response from Fujifilm regarding this.
I was expecting a hotfix by now from Fuji but nothing yet. It also seems to affect h2 ant t5 but many people didn't take the time to check. And many fanboys are throwing accusations of not using the camera properly /sigh ...
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff I contacted XseriesBrazil, and also Fujifilm Brazil, they passed my case on to Fujifilm Japan, it's been 2 weeks and still no response, I'm not working with my camera, I have no confidence in doing any work with her for fear of the problematic focus
you need to have the camera recording for a to work correctly
Yes, you are correct, I got carried away and forgot to press record but I double checked while recording with the same settings and the results are the same sadly...
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff to bad, personally I never updated, I'm always waiting for others to find any bugs before I update.
@@Kim_Alexander I have learned my lesson, trust me 😑😅🤣😭
How was the AF at f1.2 before. I shot a video that I posted on my channel with the tamron 11-20 f2.8 @f2.8 I shot in multi and just placed the box where my head was. I didn't get the focus going to my hands or any of the mics that I was placing in front of my face. I will say the tracking box going the opposite way when the screen was flipped forward is crazy to me, I experienced this as well. That should be fixed ASAP. I had the similar issue you are having on the sirui 23mm f1.2 @f1.2.
I shot the Zooms vs Primes video before the 6.0 update on version 5.03 on the 27mm at F1.2 with face/eye detection AF and it was stuck like glue on my eyes no mater if I waved any lenses or my hands in front of my face. Since 6.0 that is not the case anymore... Waiting for a fix from Fuji.
Shame on fujifilm. It feels like they either don’t know how to make software and autofocus for their cameras, or they deliberately break something that already doesn’t work well. I've been using X-mount cameras for almost seven years, starting with x-pro2, t2, H1, T3, T4 and now x-h2s, and every time I hope that everything will finally work well. But no, I am increasingly upset by the new acquisition... What keeps me on this system is the color and nostalgia for the old models. This is all very sad... :(
Yes, it seems like they are having a tough time finding the right path for their AF system to work on par with the other big brands... To me it seems like they are stumbling in the dark for the moment. I would be super curios to see how all major firmwares compare to one another but that's a bit impossible since we don't have the option to rollback.
@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff absolutely agree my friend
Fuji Flagship. Sad.
Yes, sadly. hope they are working on the fix as we speak.
The fix isn't coming. They've been working on improvement since the camera was launched to no avail. I gave up after 6.0.
Firmware 6.0 broke my xh2s, It can't autofocus with 33 1.4 wr, it's a blur all the time, it focuses for a little bit with fringer ii + sigma 18 - 35 and then start to hunt non stop... I'm very disappointed, the camera is unusable and it was working fine before the update... that's not the way to treat your customers...
Sorry to hear, 6.0 is such a disaster...
My Fuji XS20 had the same focus problem, it was practically unusable for video after the firmware update. So far I have not received any response from Fujifilm regarding this.
@@infinitoreviews9365 that's a shame man, i loved the camera, now I'm looking for other brands...the x summit just finished today and i haven't seen an firmware announcement...
Yeh I tested my 2x XH2S's running 5.03 and can confirm they are NOT exhibiting this problem. 6.00 is bugged. Hopefully Fuji will address this in due course. Really none of this would be a big deal if Fuji allowed users to rollback f/w. I bought my XH2S when they had 3.00 preinstalled, and even then I recall some YTers talking about how the AF performance took a hit at 3.00. I'd love to check out nilla f/w but there seems to be no easy way. Shame.
Honestly, and as far as I know, no camera brand offers this... Firmware rollback should be an absolute staple in any camera brand that respects itself and it's users because firmware blunders have existed as long as digital cameras have so in a way it's un excusable that firmware rollback isn't already a thing... For how long do we have dual bios in our motherboards now?...

Replicated those settings on a X100VI and X-T5 and no issues whatsoever. So, most probably a bug on the X-H2s firmware.
Yes, that seems to be the case.
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff Have to correct myself a bit here: i can replicte the issue on my X100VI (didn´t test on my X-T5) IF i´m in zone af set to front WITH release priority. Tested just photo mode, not movie.

its the same size as my a7iv
I've held the a7iv recently and while they are the same size, the x-h2s is infinitely more comfortable to hold. The a7rv is more confortable than the a7iv but still behind the x-h2s.
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff i might have to flip flop between them to try, I couldn’t feel a difference tbh
Yes, I think it's easy to just get used to the camera you already own and be fine with that in the long run. Problem is if you can't find it confortable even after a long period of ownership.
Such a great video from a practical photographer.
Very honest and useful points about this camera. Thank you.
My pleasure, it has become my main camera atm. I got rid of my x-t4 and x-s10.
did the new firmware update help with the issues?
The fact that we can change iso now through the front/back control wheel directly is amazing but other than that the other issues still remain.
Amazingly I am able to operate the X-H2s just as well as the other four Fujifilm bodies I’ve been utilizing. Also the X-H1 shutter release is identical to the newer X-H bodies.
hows the handheld video stabe with the OIS from the lens and the body? assuming you have a body that has IBIS
Very similar to the XF 16-80 though I haven't tested it as much. Check out Christopher Frost's review on this lens though he is a bit photo centric.
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff Yeah I saw that but there wasn't much in terms for video
Soft hands notice heavy weight 😅
Fuji is trying to get us Nikon Dslr owners in with this H2s and is working.
They got me!📸🤣🤣
The size and weight issue was real for me. Came from XT3 and bought the XH2S but after using it at an all day event I decided to return it. Now I have the XT5 and it feels right
Almost did the same with my X-H2s...
You purchased a new camera, used it all day, then returned it? I’m sure the retailer loves you. Lol
@@Samuel_E81 nothing that my retailer didn’t offer. It is this flexibility that I have over the years spent more with them, I’m glad they offer this policy and obviously it’s good for business otherwise they’d nix it
Did you noticed any problem when zooming the tamron one while filming? Some weird Focus stuff? Even on manual, when i change the focal distance it simply blur everything and then when I stop focusing it comes back to normal. Just want to know if this is common among these, or it's a problem with my one
It's normal especially on fuji systems, I see the same behavior on the 16-80 as well. However it is almost unnoticeable for me if I zoom slowly. This lens in not parafocal(like a broadcast lens) so it needs to refocus essentially every time you need to zoom in or out.
The lens isn’t parfocal, that’s why. the fujinon 18-120 is the only parfocal lens for xmount
Comparing the size of the XH2s, the H is for Hybrid, to the XT4, the T is for Traditional, still doesn’t make sense. Two completely different models aimed at two distinct markets. The XT4 was labeled as the flagship only because it was so much better than the XH1. This is a true flagship pro body camera. Most likely it was delayed by a year or more, another reason the XT4 carried the flagship label when I came out. Get the XT5 and call it a day if this body is too big.
Nah, the big grip was the deciding factor to getting the H style body. And I can only compare to what I already own. Fuji straightened their lineup as they should this year but it's their fault for the x-h1 / x-t4 situation. Plus I'm warming up to the X-H2s more and more every day, haven't used my x-t4 too much lately...
@@Tech_Stuff_and_Other_Stuff oh I agree it was Fuji that messed up the lineup. Like I said, I think the H2s was delayed about a year. Possibly the XH2 was delayed even longer. They had to know the fanboys would complain if the XT5 didn’t drop first. Then again, could’ve been marketing to sell more XH2s and XH2 bodies. We’ll never know for sure.
I get the impression that you didn’t actually see or handle the camera prior to acquiring it. I honestly can’t complain about the buttons, and am pleased that the ON/OFF switch requires a deliberate movement to activate, unlike other Fuji cameras where it moves accidentally, and the same applies to the control dials. Yes, its different from most X series cameras, and also considerably more capable. This is a real pro spec workhorse that’s substantially built, but still very compact in comparison with DSLR’s. Just spend an hour or so getting used to it.
@@robertrowles4948 I handled both and decided on the XH2. Unless you’re talking to the other guy. I would like to have an XT5 for street photos but I can’t justify it right now. So I drag this pro body out in the wild on occasion. I’ve gotten used to the button and dial layout. Probably a good idea I stick to it instead of buying an XT5 and having to move back and forth between button/dial layout. I’m too old to be remembering that stuff
I guess this is coming from the perspective of previous Fujifilm shooters when he talks about how big and chunky the camera is. My previous hybrid camera was a 1DX MIII and my “A” cam for video work is currently a RED. The X-H2S for the quality of video and stills it produces feels downright petite compared to other cameras it can confidently keep up with…
That's true 👍
Just watched a direct comparison, and the review claimed that the newer Tamron is sharper in every department with sample images. I have the 16-55 mm, and it is feeling dated.
Check Christopher Frost's channel, he reviews both lens and you'll be able to see it clearly that the 16-55 is much sharper.
have they fixed the ISO customize option yet?
Not yet unfortunately and I got a feeling it won't be soon... Fuji is stubborn when it comes to certain aspects. Hope I'm wrong though.
Music is huge distraction in background. Had to stop watching.
Thx for the info 👍
It’s now fixed with the new firmware update.
