    wouldn't really call it 'the best place' unless you mean Itoshima in general. Keya is nly worth having a look around for 20 mins.it's far from the most beautiful place on the peninsula - just the one where all the tourists go.

    I've thought about moving to Japan when I retire in three years. I'd of course visit before I do. Because of this channel and a few others I've watched Japan is so beautiful and peaceful.

    WOW really cool. If you do a theatre downstairs you can do a lounge upstairs with maybe a set of bunk beds, some sofas table chairs or a bar or do reverse put the lounge downstairs and the theatre upstairs either way I'm sure the space is going to look amazing... hello Kai I've been wondering what you have been up to.

    Any advice for people over 30, with no degree, decent savings and rudimentary Japanese language skills? This only applies to those with degrees, remote jobs and the language skills to assimilate seamlessly from the looks of it

      Great question! If you want to live in Japan, learning the Japanese language should your top priority. However, it can be very challenging to master the language without having native Japanese speakers to interact with regularly. Our advice would be to find a way to accelerate your Japanese learning before trying to fully emigrate to Japan: First, you should be able to learn basic grammar and vocabulary and learn to read hiragana/katakana and simple kanji from the comfort of your home. Try to learn as much as possible using online resources, apps, etc. Second, you should try to find a way to live in Japan for at least 3-6 months so you can interact with native Japanese speakers and truly begin to master the language. Ways to do this include: teaching English (ALT), study abroad on a student VISA through a university, enrolling in a Japanese language/immersion program in Japan, etc. If you can find a homestay program with native Japanese hosts that would be a great option (this is what we are trying to create with Itoshima Crossing). Third, once you have 1-2 years of Japanese language learning experience and you've actually tried living in Japan short-term (beyond tourism), you can start looking at work opportunities so that you can live in Japan long-term. Learning the Japanese language can be overwhelming, but you just need to start little by little and keep at it!

  • @cw9282

    Japan is a fun place to visit but not a good place to live for most westerners. First off, unless you speak fluent Japanese, you'll find that it can be severely limiting in terms of social interaction and career prospects. Additionally, if you are a foreigner, you'll be treated as a foreigner - you'll never be one of them (this is their cultural attitude). And if you are a career-oriented woman, Japan is the last place you want to be: their traditional culture is one that positions women in the household and women in the workplace are often sexually harassed and have minimal prospects of reaching management level. There is a reason why you constantly see Japanese homes being sold for pennies. I would say unless you have a job already secured with a western company (such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc) where the western corporate culture overwhelms the Japanese culture, you won't feel at home in Japan.

    That is my story, unfortunately. Kyoto was supposed to be the highlight of my Japan 2024 trip. Here for a week and 5 out of 7 days is going to rain. And due to this I hid the temples so early and hard and felt like I was rushing, and I was at the end of the day. Was hoping for Kibuki, but they do not have any in April. So sad 😢😢😢

    His masterwork concert hall is GORGEOUS. Absolutely stunning. If I had the money, I would hire him in an instant. I've always loved the idea of hunting for a larger, well-built kominka, having it fully restored, but relocated to a spot I really like. Having it dry fit in a workshop to double-check for strength and updated with modern safety features(diagonal beams throughout for resisting earthquakes, more horizontal members to resist sagging and gradual damage from ground-shift, a fire-resistant kiln-plaster exterior, Etc.)

      @ItoshimaCrossing 7 месяцев назад

      We will share more details about the costs of buying/renovating our Kominka in future videos! Typically you will want to consider a budget of at least $100K USD if you're looking for a kominka in this area. If you have more questions, feel free to reach out through the contact page of our website. Thanks for watching!

    Even if the old tatami will be replaced, it's still painful to see them being stepped on by outdoor shoes. I've never heard "o-tera" said without the honorific.

    • @ItoshimaCrossing
      @ItoshimaCrossing 7 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching! Yes, walking on tatami with shoes is unpleasant indeed.😅 Due to ongoing construction, we have a temporary shoes OK policy inside the house since it's quite dirty! (We also clean the shoes before entering the house)

    • @sandyrothman2430
      @sandyrothman2430 7 месяцев назад

      I think I'd buy a few pairs of slippers at the ¥100 shop and leave them at the genkan...until the old tatami are removed. Less trouble than cleaning shoes over and over!

    what is the cheapest you can buy a Kominka there in JP?

    • @ItoshimaCrossing
      @ItoshimaCrossing 7 месяцев назад

      You kind find beautiful Kominka for relatively cheap, typically around $50K (USD), but it depends on the location. A Kominka in a good location could cost up to $300-400K, and that won't include the renovation costs!

      also , that 700 yen all day pass is now unfortunately gone forever :( people speculate they got rid of it to slow the congestion of tourists on said bus routes because of how insanely packed kyoto has been since re-opening.

    Thanks for the guide. I don't appreciate the attitude tho. I get that it's just "a joke" or just something said out of embarrassement or whatever, but why shout boring when you couldn't lift the log? Pretty offensive imo, like sort yourself out, why blame the thing. It's not that deep, I know. But it's still a legit place of worship, and a cultural treasure, so maybe exercising some amount of respect is the wiser thing to do?
