Hi! My main thing is cinematography and photography. I enjoy my area's railroad history, document & film trains in Chicagoland, and outside of it as well. I enjoy railroad & industrial history. I also do other stuff like to go urban exploring. Enjoy!

Why is the diesel engine in there? I thought they fixed it so that it was not necessary.
Probably "just in case", and the diesel loco is cute
The diesel is "insurance" in case of a breakdown. They also use its dynamic braking when descending steep grades. Saves wear on the brake shoes of Big Boy and the rest of the train.
Traditionally it's 4 longs (Eastbound) on the whistle chain to call in the flagman. i dont think that'd be req these days, but a nice touch anyhow.

I don’t understand not a heck different than the crappy Gov.Ventura train in MPLS. &St. Paul. I wanted a monorail elevated Metro system, But no at the time they had to tear up all the streets and redo much infrastructure.

Yes
used to take the train when i lived in nw indiana.
Seeing the cars directly in the back of the train, those were the days.
The South Shore Line is dead to me now.
How old are those rail cars that they rattle and squeak so much?
The first order of the current single level cars were built in 1981-1982
