RELAX! Build A Model Ship With Me (One Hour Build, No Talking)
Let's Build a model ship together! Call it ASMR (or don't, I don't care), and follow along as I build WESTERN ENGINEER, a sternwheel survey boat built for the US Army in 1819. She was used for nearly two years on the Western Rivers of the United States, eventually being abandoned at low water at Smithland, KY in 1820. Heavily armed, she also had a unique serpent figurehead which belched smoke and steam from the engine, and was intended to intimidate the Indians by making it appear as though the Army had tamed an enormous serpent to carry their vessel along.
I took several artistic liberties by enhancing the size and characteristics of the serpent, and by expanding the superstructure to a l...

Definitely one that got away! I found this old clip of a van I had several years ago, and figured I'd share it for those of you who may like the old car stuff. Rear- engine, "Pancake" 6 cylinder, air cooled, just like the other Corvairs. Enjoy!
DANGER SIGNAL: Huge Ship Avoids Danger! (Docks Safely in Port)
Просмотров 4242 месяца назад
In this video, a ship-assist tug gets the attention of a Ro-Ro ship ("Roll-On, Roll-Off") who is pointing the wrong direction while attempting to enter the harbor. Though the vessel made it into her berth safely, the tug operator had to blow the Danger/Doubt signal several times to alert the ship that something was wrong. The Danger or Doubt signal is a succession of 5 or more short and rapid b...

What is the low speed control like ?
I wish she'd cruise again
Sad to see her laid up. Loved to see her cruising the river. I miss seeing her in Cincinnati
I hope she will come back into service...but its been nearly ten years since it was supposed to return.
They're great if you replace the radio - see dozens of them modified on ModelBoatMayhem
I was on her sister ship today in Dubuque. Wonder if any part of this ship would be usable to the William m black.
They have a wonderful museum!
kids toy
And nice vedio the boat is cool just needs detaling and get the toy look off !
You got defect boat send it back
Chinese quality control is horrendous
Great job on the aluminum! Been waiting to see how this all turned out, it looks really good! I really respect your recycling of materials and making them look natural in your build, the carpet strip seam cover gave me a good laugh!
Thank you for following along! I'm definitely a big repurpose guy, so I love to come up with stuff like that. Plenty of other things in the build were recycled too. I'll have a few more videos about the trailer, so stay tuned for the tour of the finished product!
Mine isn’t turning on can someone help?
I qualified as helmsman (steersman) aboard USS Ranger (CVA-61) in 1969. I was in 1st Division and the Deck Divisions provided the bridge watches - Bo's'n's Mate of the Watch, Helmsmen, Lee Helmsmen, and Messenger of the Watch. An unqualified person could not be on the helm during flight ops. I don't remember how many hours it took but, when I amassed enough, I had a written test administered by no less than the ship's Navigator. There were also some oral questions. With the entry in my records, I could take the help during flight ops. Each watch, the first time each of us would take the helm, we reported to the OOD and told him all of the things we needed to know, course, speed, rpms, and some things I don't remember. At the end, we stated whether we were qualified. It was a thrill the first time, which occurred off the coast of North Korea in April, 1969. I was 18 years old and was steering an 80,000 ton aircraft carrier. A little sidenote to this is that those of us who actually steered the ship most of the time, weren't allowed when UnRepping or Entering/Leaving port. That's when the quartermasters took over. There's not logic to that.
@@johnslaughter5475 sounds like a great experience. Thank you for your service!
Dude you got a customer return.....
I completely dis-assembled my boat and repainted it. It has a 555 dc motor, M4 propshaft, a 40mm 4 blade prop, two windscreen washer pumps for the water jets and better navigation lighting. It has two 3S 2.2Ah batteries, one for drive and the other for the water jets. 4mm pneumatic tubing and connectors for the water jets controlled by two esc's. It is a bit fast on full power. Flags flying from the mast are the Jolly Roger over the Red Duster.
Thanks, very useful data
I didn't know she was in drydock. Do you know what was repaired? This must have been the first time in several years that she steamed in salt water, since she normally stays in the Ohio/Mississippi rivers and tributaries.
This was for her regularly scheduled USCG inspection. They require a 10 year haul-out. She had some minor metalwork done below the waterline, as well as some newly machined props fitted. And a fresh coat of paint!
@@jakenathanwmass Thanks for the update.
That Detroit diesel sounds awesome ❤.
After seeing how long it took to raise and lower that ramp, i absolutely understand why so many guys chose to jump over the side and risk drowning under the weight of their gear rather than wait for the gate to come down. You'd be a sitting duck to enemy fire way before it was low enough to run out.
My father was on a LST at Hollandia and the stern anchor operator released the anchor too soon . Later he took a whale boat out and retrieved the anchor cable . He got some sort of attaboy award .
There was one being worked for its special capabilities in the Thousand Islands until at least the late1980's
Am an Evansville native and USN vet (Vietnam). Commercial fished one season in Alaska. The boat had a 671…love that sound!👍🫡⚓️
Thank you for your service! Hope you enjoyed the video
@@jakenathanwmass Enjoyed it very much. My parents were from Hopkins County. Had some relatives in Paducah. Live now near Olympia, WA, with great water view…lots of shellfish work boats around,,,some sounding like 671’s. 😁
The sound is unique. We used a lot of 71 series Gray Marine/GM's in the Coast Guard.
Also road in a Higgins boat in the 50s in yap.
There was an lst run aground on the reef of yap island. It finally fully rusted and a storm collapsed it sometime I. The 70s ? I used to climb on it as a kid in the 50s.
Apparently the LST-393 is also in original wartime colours but is in trouble and could definitely do with a hand from these guys. LST-510 / MV Cape Henlopen has been converted into a car ferry. About 5 LST landing ships were still in active service with the Chinese Navy as recent as 2022.
I'm familiar with the 393 and the Cape Henlopen, but have never visited either. I'll have to make a point to go.
That sound is oh-so familiar. We used something similar, maybe it was a Higgins boat, as a ferry from Grande Island to carrier pier at Subic Bay. Even in the bay those boats rocked. Not a good thing if you're too drunk to stand up. No seats. They were stock condition from WWII.
I bet that would be tricky!
This is too cool! My grandfather was the coxswain of a Higgins boat late in the war in the Pacific while on the USS Briscoe APA-65. He thankfully didn't land any troops under fire, but he had some scary moments as the ship passed through mine fields, and it was one of the closest ships to the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay during the surrendering ceremony. Accordingly, I've always wanted to take a ride on LCVP. You got quite the treat!
I'm very fortunate, the rest of the crew really rolled out the red carpet for me!
Many years ago, our unit used a panam. It was a kick of a ride
Wonderful the sound of the gray marine 671 diesel in the back ground , Nice Sound at 1800 rpms ! i owned an old higgians boat at one time live history right there kudos !
I sure hope it wouldn't have taken that long to lower the bow door on Omaha Beach.
I’m not sure how far out they were when they offloaded but I’m guessing more than a few miles.? 10 I’m thinking I don’t remember maybe I’m wrong
They were a bit younger and quicker!
Love hearing that 671, brings back memory’s. Early 60’s Sea Scout ship,I was on was a LCP. Forerunner of the LCVP. Later was a Coxswain on CG utility boats many Detroit 671 powered.
Served on the USS Monmouth County LST1032 in the Far East and Viet Nam during 1966/67. These were our ships liberty/work boats when we weren't beached, rode many slow, interesting and uncomfortable miles in these things in many varied locations. Hooking up in rolling seas with the ship rocking enough that a point on the side of the ship would be moving 15 feet up and down, was hard to believe the first time I experienced it... It was an 'HELL of an adventure' on that miserable little ship...
That sounds like an adventure for sure! Thank you for your service
Hi. Nice Video. I would not stop a video, make a still image, talk over it and then roll the clip again. That takes the "flow" away. A continous predictable sound is more relaxing and fun to watch. Video sound lower, talkover louder. Might end in a better result. Just my opinion on editing. Best regards. Tom
Thank you for your advice, Tom. It's appreciated. Glad you enjoyed it
Unmistakable detroit diesel sound from that higgins!
Sound nice, doesn't she?
I assume this is what my grandfather landed on Normandy in. Very cool to see it operational. I cannot imagine what it was like when they lowered that gate.
Those guys were tough as nails. God bless them

I sure miss seeing her at The Great Steamboat Race during the KY Derby festival every year.
Hatte mal vor langer Zeit auch so einen jeep.
Long live the Queen!
I customized one of these, I have a video of it on my channel. I put lead pallets for ballast, brushless motor, better servo, Flysky receiver and made it look a little better by making it look a bit more to scale.. removed the the toy looking crane and life raft , made a custom mast and gave it some paint. I didn't put those oversized tyres on it for they are way to big and not to scale.. I have more scale looking tyres but hadn't installed them in my video. I figured it to be around 1:43 scale and that's what I worked to.. I reckon it looks much better now and it was a good project..
