This still works. Do not increase Durability past level 3 or it stops working!!. I tried this and every other ability I can max out using this method. Also this works in other areas same method, Press square just as you take a hit.

Just got this on an actual STR build this time, but I think that WA needs to be reworked or something. Good stats, but the WA looks cool but very impractical. May go with Heavy Gargoyle's Greatsword or Iron Greatsword instead.
