Big Train and the Loco Motives

RED DIRT BLUES - Keeping the blues alive one song at a time!
Big Train and the Loco Motives music is deep seated in the roots of the blues, due in part to annual pilgrimages to the cradle of the blues in the Mississippi Delta. There they hear the whispers of Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Son House, and Bukka White as they soak up the mojo that is palatable in streets, juke joints, and graveyards.
Big Train and the Loco Motives play what they coined “Red Dirt Blues”. It’s blues flavored by the red soil of Oklahoma, but always in homage to the blues artists who came before them. They cover everything from traditional Delta Blues to Texas Boogie-Woogie, from the south side of Chicago Blues to the Jump Blues of the west coast.
Sure, it may be hard to nail them down other than they totally enjoy keeping the clues alive, it’s guaranteed that everyone who shows up in the audience will also enjoy the show.

Very informative! Thank you for making my brain bigger. 😊 Some I knew, but you really filled in the gaps.👍 Check out my original songs. Playlist titled Mountain Man has originals and a handful of covers. Hope you enjoy them! ✌❤❄
I really liked this, but I played Harp, and some guitar behind R.L. Burnside mostly between 1982 - 1994, and lived with him the summer of 1982. R.L. had many recordings before Fat Possum became involved with him, but of course none made him much money. Though we toured all over the States, Europe, even in the Caribbean it wasn't until Fat Possum became involved with R.L. that he began to make serious money because they really knew how they wanted to promote R.L., and his trio. Before that with Cedric Burnside's Father Calvin Jackson we played as a trio with Calvin on drums. We were both living in Holland. I just recently sold some old recordings of R.L., and I to Fat Possum. Hopefully it will help the Burnsides in some way. Thanks.
Many props for even mentioning Briefcase Full of Blues. Great blues...no. Good blues...no. Great opportunity to introduce new audience to the blues...yes! Well worth the mention!
Another great one Hugo, lol! Can't believe how young Bonnie Raitt looks in that picture. Any idea what year that was???
Aw - thanks so much! That pic was from the Ann Arbor Blues Festival in 1972.
From the master of Dad jokes, Chris P. Bacon?...ouch, lol! Thanks for another fine episode. Look forward to them every week.
Thanks - there's a new shirt just about every episode!
Happy Birthday Jimbo!
THANK YOU SIR!!!!
Great stuff Big Train! One of my all time favorite blues recordings is Fenton Robinson's "Someone Loan Me A Dime" by Boz Scaggs with Duane Allman playing guitar. Fantastic track. The only problem is that kids today have no idea why he's asking for a dime!
I KNOW! And think of Jim Croce's "Operator" where at the end he sings, "thank you for your time, you've been so much more than kind, you can keep the dime."
Where is your drummer?
He's the little dude playing percussion in the back row. He can make sound come out of the most unusual collection of things.
This not my BAND is was only contacted
@@philshepard7275 Not sure I'm following what you're saying, but I hope you have a great weekend
Hey Big Train! Only you could find a way to connect the blues and Pat Boone! When younger people ask me why the Beatles were such a sensation, I tell them to check out a clip of Pat Boone singing Tutti Frutti. Yikes indeed!
I KNOW! Little Richard must have been laughing all the way to the bank on that one, because he was sure that Pat Boone had no idea what the song was about!
Thanks Jimbo! Woke up from having surgery and was pumped to see the new episode! Of course, it also may have been the drugs...keep'em coming please.
I HOPE that everything turned out okay!
Supposed to be heart surgery but once they opened me up they found I didn't have one si they took out my gallbladder instead! 😅 All good, thanks!
@@johnfried2762 I didn't know they could do that! "Hey, your transmission is fine, but you need new brakes." Glad it all worked out!!!!
Thanks Big Train. Look forward to this every Sunday! Please keep them coming!
So glad you like them! It's definitely a labor of love
Great channel--it was really nice meeting you at the airport!
SAME!!!!
Great episode. Never a big fan of Jimmy Carter but who knew he was a blues fan and having Muddy to the White House!
He was one of those who had a bigger impact out of office than in it. But he was definitely a blues fan!
Thanks Big Train! Excellent episode. Its amazing that so little is known about some of these artists but also sad.
True, we can see that their talent is still influencing other artists :-)
This is my first, and I like it! One idea. Take a look at what's going on in Ireland and I guitar of the late great Rory Gallagher. They're trying to raise enough to buy it from Rory's brother Seriously, it's a huge deal. If you haven't heard of Rory , don't feel bad. He's known as the best guitar ever you haven't heard of.
Another solid episode!
Thanks Jimbo! Another great episode. Admit it...every time you think of seeing a show featuring Jimi Hendrix and the Monkees you have to laugh😂
I know...right? Just the juxtaposition of the two. Apparently the guys in the Monkees were big Hendrix fans which is how that happened in the first place.
You put a lot of time and effort into your postings, Jim! Thank you! Good stuff!
Thanks Jimbo! Another great episode. I had never heard the story of why Pinetop Perkins switched from guitar to piano. That's a classic blues story!
Another fine addition! I look forward to this each week Big Train! Do you guys ever play in eastern PA? Love to see a show.
Love these weekly blues history lessons. Please keep it going Big Train!
Wow - thanks for the VERY kind words! Feedback like this make it worth it to keep researching and putting them together. Thanks!!!!!
Thanks for another great blues video and history lesson. Its so hard to find good blues content! Please keep it coming!
GREAT and INFORMATIVE Video. Liked and Subscribed. Thank You
I like this concept for a video
Pretty cool. I love my blues. Mostly vintage and this is something different and interesting. Thanks
Thanks for the information.

Tony Joe White! 👍

Russian roulette on Christmas day.....Now thats Rock n Roll
Totally. Although another story says that he was back stage playing with the gun, and someone yelled at him to stop it. He said "Don't worry, it ain't loaded". At that point, to demonstrate it was unloaded, held it to his head and fired it. Turns out, it was loaded after all.
👍
Wow, Big Bill Broonzy was already special to me. This story about his open compliment and support of Memphis Minnie is so cool. I knew very little about her until I learned that she and Kansas Joe composed the first version of "when the levee breaks". Thank you so much!
And Big Bill was also a janitor at Iowa State University for a while and gave guitar lessons on the side.
@@BigTrainBlues , oh, so cool! And he was part of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie crowd, I read. I think Brownie McGhee told some stories in an interview - Pete, Woody, Big Bill, Ledbelly, Brownie and others hanging out (in NY? I think so). A very cool crowd...
Thank you for another great glimpse into Blues' past .
Thank you SOOO MUCH!

Rory! Rory! Rory!
I know - too few people know what a monster blues guitarist he was!
Cool, found you on You Tube!
