Exploring Alttrauchburg castle ruin - Covering its history and architecture!
Nestled deep in the forests of Weitnau, the ruins of Alt-Trauchburg Castle hold centuries of history. Built around 1150, the castle became the seat of the Trauchburg family, with Berthold of Trauchburg serving Emperor Frederic II in 1224. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times, eventually becoming the central seat of the Waldburg family.
Despite surviving the wars of the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was demolished in the late 18th century to build a new one nearby.

In this video I'm exploring a mystical abandoned castle ruin. It's barely visible from the outside and hidden at the edge of a forest. Going closer you get rewarded by a medieval castle ruin with the perfect mixture of decay, overgrown structures and intact buildings. It was build in the 13th century (middle ages) with the purpose to secure important nearby road connections.

There’s another Falkenstein in eastern Bavaria.
You are right. There is multiple Falkensteins. I found out that there is at least 3 in Germany. But France, Belgium and Luxemburg also seem to have one. I would love to visit all of them.

It looks like someone did some small rennovations in the 70s or 80s (those wooden structures would not have been so well preserved after sitting in the elements after 700+ years). I kind of hope they go back and spruce up the rest, make it an operable castle again. Sometimes the best way to preserve history is to use it. ❤
You got good eyes, you looked very closely. 🙂 The doors definitely look like they got renovated. Apart from that I only see wood at the tiny tower? As far as I know the castle is owned by descendants of the original owners. (So still in hand of the family) Sadly almost no renovations have been done so far and I believe restoring it might be too expensive to be handled. I like the decay and state of the castle. But I also fear it might collapse in the near future. The holes in the roofs and very high walls without any support makes it very unstable. Thank you for watching and being here ❤️

@@TimelessExplorations I am honestly not sure which Falkenstein my friend belongs to, all I know is she has the name (and "title") Falkenstein😅 The castle I have visited was the one in Upper Palatinate/Bavaria, but that was unrelated to me knowing her, I was just in the area and I love checking out castles😊 (Sadly, we don't have one of our own. My mother is the Countess of Schönebeck, which isn't exactly glamorous or famous or worth visiting. I do like the fact that, technically, I am a princess, though😊 The thing is, in Germany, the names and "royalty" aren't really bound tothe property or land. We do not own anything in Schönebeck, but at least that also means our name does not tie us down. I can move wherever I wanna move, I have been living in Cologne, Bremen, Bielefeld, Homburg, I even spent half a year in Munich with my grandfather(father's side, he's not part of the von Schönebeck-clan.) Either way, "royalty" as such doesn't exist in Germany, I don't think it has ever existed since the start of WWII, but I am not sure. We have the names, technically we have the titles, also we have the I forgot the English word for it again("Familienwappen"), but all of that is basically honorary. We don't own land, we got absolutely nothing to say, we don't even get a difference in tax payments. (would be nice not having to pay a giant amount as it is) Anyway, thank you for your kind words, you really made me smile💖 I hope you have an awesome day(night?😅) and, as soon as I can, I will definitely be visiting your beautiful castle again! Its not impossible. But every country has its own great sites. USA has more industrial places while europe has the castles. Industrial places are cool as well. :)

These videos are beautiful. Are you filming with a drone? What model? How did you get permission to fly in these places?
Yes im using a drone. I used a DJI Mini 3 pro in that video. For my newer videos i used and will use a Mini 4 pro. You are right - many places seem to require a permission to fly a drone or film. But this place is quite rural and publicly available. Also i didnt see any other restrictions somewhere - so its all good. Sadly many other places require a drone and film permission which i would have to pay for - or risk high fines. :(

Since it was the first ruin i explored i got a personal relationship with it - its one of my most favourite places. Making it public would make it quickly be demolished. I hope you understand that.
