Excellent observations! First of all, the original version of C.P. is great. If anyone has that, then that is probably all they would need. Next, for me, the reason that I like this version of the game is the addition of the Royals. The Royals add one more layer of buffing, or at least a new twist/angle. This changes the game enough to make it really memorable. With the Royals in play, it gives the chance for players to get more creative. Also, the Royals also can crank up the pressure. Just by mentioning them, when making a claim on a card, you introduce the risk that there could be a double penalty at stake. That is when white-hot beads of sweat start to form, at the same time, while players that are off the hook are laughing at the squirming players who have to act next. It is tons of fun. About the 2 special cards: if your group likes them, then by all means use them. I use this game to primarily introduce new people into gaming, so I like to keep the rules relatively simple and add the nuance of the Royals at the same time. On the occasions that I have used the 2 special cards, for me, it either didn’t go over too well, or the rules overhead didn’t seem worth it (for such a simple game). You may have a whole different experience. If so, then I am happy that you and your group have hit the ground running with such an awesome game. So, the way that I use Cockroach Poker Royal, meets my standard for an entry-level filler that is perfect for showing someone who doesn’t even play board games. It is my tried-n-true formula. In this video, I wanted to share that.

Ah, the card holders. Ha, I didn't even get around to that. You make some good points on that Victor. Still, I don't want to seem ungrateful for the game. I think that overall, many publishers will shy away from a deluxe version altogether. So, it is nice to see the deluxe version on some level. In the end, I think there is room for quite a bit of improvement here. Perhaps game publishers will hear us for future games ... we can hope.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, the clear lid doesn't flip over; it has a curtain around the perimeter that prevents this. For now, I will bag the cubes and later on look for an after-market insert that makes more sense for me (if I can find it).

@@getyourgameon4935 Just to be clear: fill the insert normally, put the clear lid on it, then the game board, then the rule books... then put the lid on "upside down" in relation to the insert. The wells that the metal player bits are in are shaped differently top to bottom, may are having great success just doing this way. It's easy enough to test... people who store their games vertically can just try it upside down (that's basically what the solution is).
