The crazy thing about this, is this is different than the taped version. The taped video version of this concert was a mashup of two or three different performances. Whereas this entire album was from ONE performance. In the video it’s almost barely noticeable (almost). In the epiphany, you can notice it when George is storming around the stage, one of his suspenders slips off his shoulder, and the camera cuts to another angle, and it’s magically up on his shoulder within a second. Without George correcting it himself. If you listen the line “wake up Johanna another bright red day” is sung completely different between this album and the taped version. Those are just a few examples. There are other small examples here and there. But I thought it was interesting how they didn’t just release an audio recording of the videotape. But a completely different audiotape.

Have you listened to other performances of Davis Gaines here on RUclips? He does an incredible job on "The Impossible Dream" and others from musicals and apparently played Phantom of the Opera more than 2000 times!

I had been searching for everything vocal I could find of Davis Gaines after seeing and hearing a RUclips performance of him singing "The Impossible Dream". Incredible voice!!! I love baritone and when I heard Mr.Davies' performance I was blown away. That led me on a search , first at Amazon for any recordings I could purchase ..to no avail and to my huge disappointment. So the rabbit hole led me here and WOW. This is such a wonderful tribute and positive take on what was going on a couple years ago. I will continue my search and quest. Thank you to all who put this video together and of course to Davis Gaines for his unmistakable voice!💞

I don't understand why there are no comments here! This isn't the first where there aren't any. I just recently discovered the most amazing baritone voice I've ever heard and am now searching for more songs / performances by Davis Gaines. I adore his voice! His version of "The Impossible Dream" is now my favorite of all time. I searched on Amazon for recordings but came up with no results! I don't get it. I realize his 'forte' is supposed to be as an actor but his voice, the performances on RUclips ....why are these incredible songs, sung by this phenomenal voice not on albums/CD's to purchase??!! I'm not comparing in the way this may seem but until his untimely and very sudden death not even 2 years ago, Carlos Marin was my 'guy' and again, his voice and passion for his music was why. This has been one of my very favorite songs since I first heard it as a child. Years passed and I got into other things and music but it was always there in my head. Then I heard Josh Groban sing it and bought it right away. I also heard Il Divo sing it (a group I adored and Carlos Marin with his baritone voice just gave me chills. I then searched deeper to find more versions and although in Spanish again Carlos' voice and his passion (it was a concert I purchased) was beyond words. You knew he felt it, really really felt it and didn't just sing it. The great thing about a live or recorded concert is you see. Well, very long story later....this version was recommended to me and WOW I was blown away by Davis Gaines and the power in his baritone/tenor? voice!!! I have listened to every version of "The Impossible Dream" that I could find and I guess I'd have to say that it's now a tie between Davis Gaines & Carlos Marin. I've listened to more Davis Gaines performances and yes he has a gift! His voice is incredible and as I've discovered that it's not just with one song but many I will look for DVD's or CD's of this man and his amazing voice! To those of you who have seen him perform live.....you must have had an incredible experience

His lower deep notes are the best of all phantoms- super masculine deep voice….. however he cut the climax note way too short …. As well as the last note of “night” was way too short

When I think Phantom, I always think of Mr. Gaines. He has, IMO, the haunting yet mesmerizing voice that is hypnotic. Thank you for sharing your talent. I hope to hear sing live again and not just the anthem this time 😉

Saw him perform this incredible character in Muscial Theater Wests production...one of the best live theater experiences ever. Everyone stood when he sang this.

Ahhhhh I remember when this was released. This was around the time he finished that outstanding Bway run in Phantom. Great song.
