She says negotiations are a decision for Kyiv but also says Washington wants nothing less than victory for Ukraine, however that is defined. Our sanctions regime hasn’t crippled Russia's economy; indeed, it's growing faster than ours. So much for Bidenomics! Weaponizing the SWIFT banking system has only accelerated the international movement away from the U.S. dollar, a certain disaster for the U.S. economy as more countries follow. NATO is not the most effective alliance ever. It is supposed to deter war but is always looking for new missions. The Delian League was the Greek alliance that defended the West against Persia. The Peloponnesian League was so effective it beat the Delian League. The Holy League of 1884 crushed the Ottoman Turks. The Triple Entente and Associated Powers defeated the Central Powers in WWI, ending three empires in the process. We are badly over-extended. One more war or stolen election and we are done. Brave Ukraine is being ground into dust. Responsible U.S. leadership would be mediating peace between Moscow and Kyiv, not demonizing one while egging on the other.

I was a child of the Cold War. Russia was always the enemy. But let us face facts. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was not unprovoked. We joined with Russia and others in helping Ukraine disarm after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Then we: led NATO's rapid eastward expansion in five separate waves in contravention of Ukrainian neutrality and our pledge against doing so; bombed Russia's ally Serbia; provided clandestine support to Chechen rebels; refused Moscow's offer for joint development of ballistic missile defenses; promised eventual NATO membership to Ukraine, beginning with the Bucharest Declaration in 2008; helped overthrow the democratically elected Yanukovych government in 2014, despite the previous guarantees by France, Germany, and Poland; refused to agree to Ukraine's return to neutrality; armed the Ukrainian military; installed chem-bio labs in Ukraine; established a dozen CIA stations aimed at Russia; and scuttled the Minsk I and II accords. Of course, this was accompanied by Biden's corrupt dealings in Ukraine, his epic bungling in Afghanistan, and his foolish lifting of bipartisan congressional sanctions over the Nordstream II pipeline..

Assemblyman Kim's position that dialogue alone will bring about denuclearization and ease tensions on the peninsula have historically only ended in the DPRK's favor. Tensions are temporarily eased while the north continues to expand its ballistic missile, conventional weapons and nuclear testing. Assemblyman Kim's transition to a politician is clearly complete. I'd hoped he would have at least addressed freedom of speech suppression of ordinary ROK citizens rather than focusing on defector groups leaflet launches. I don't know if he believes what he says or is posturing for his political future.

This begins with the usual Trumpian BS from a syncophant who overdosed on Kool-Aid and pats himself on the back for all the alleged “accomplishments” of the former administration’s China policy. But the United States has “gained” just as much here as it has elsewhere in the world: encouraged enemy dictators and alienated democratic allies. Yu says China has an expansionist agenda-true enough, but when did the Trumpies ever do anything to slow them down? To the contrary, Trump kissed up to Xi until he needed a scapegoat for his failed COVID campaign (actually a nonexistent one-their principal strategies were denial, deception, and outright lying). He never did anything to gain Chinese WTO compliance, or fair trade generally, or to oppose its human rights violations, or Taiwan bullying, or South China Sea expansionism, or DPRK support, or to push any of our other priorities. When Yu started bragging about Trump’s multilateralism and enforcement mechanisms, I just laughed my ass off. The defining principle of his administration was that it was all “me, me, me.” He had no friends or allies abroad, other than a few kindred spirits: tinpot dictators like Putin, Erdoğan, and Kim Jŏng Ŭn. None of the serious democracies that have been our allies for decades took him seriously. And respect for the rule of law was a completely alien concept. The same goes for our “rock-solid” alliance with NATO, which Trump tried to destroy. Fortunately, he failed. His minders in the Kremlin must be bitterly disappointed. With friends like this in the White House, who needs enemies? Good riddance to bad rubbish! Mr. Yu does provide some expertise in the Q&A segment, but only after mortally wounding his own credibility with his abject fealty to Trump and Pompeo. Then after making sense for a while, he returns to more Trumpian lies about how they allegedly improved relations with our allies, took a multilateral approach, and achieved a lot. In fact, it will take years for serious, qualified professionals to clean up the mess left by Trump’s unqualified political hacks and cronies. When will ICAS open its eyes? You’ve really gone downhill in the past few years.
