It'd be really cool if you make more videos like these. I like em a lot and want to learn how to apply your methods to hand sewing as the seeing videos I find aren't helpful for making the type of stuff I wanna make
Organ top stitch needles make this type of work so much easier. I never buy just one package. It's a shame you quit making videos after only four. I've watched them all and thought they were all very good as well as informative.
At the end you revealed you break your own "most important point". So how about throwing out some suggestions instead of coming across dictaterian?
So you in your solutions you never went to a lighter Mara thread.....why not? Thanks, new to MYOG and having fun.
Hi. First video in here proved good so I checked you channels. Your list for this one are few and last content entries is a bit old for both. Did you give up on this YT thing ?
Be aware of the foot on the sewing machine. A zig zag foot has too much open space and the fabric pull up when the needle is on the upstroke. A foot with a single round hole to accomidate a straight stich offers more support to the fabric on the needle upstroke. And yes, never use a ball point on the coated fabrics.
Great info!
I tend to believe that a needle feed is the best choice for that type of material for consistent stitch length.
Could you put a link to the Organ needles? I can't find them anywhere on the net. Thanks.
Thanks for those tips! Especially the tip of the Organ needle, I will be looking for them after this comment. I had lots of attention issues with my old Sears machine when my girlfriend gave me her old Bernina 802 Sport, all my problems went away! It is a pre-computerized one that seems to self-adjust the tension, it just doesn't have problems, I love it. BTW, I got my start from DIY gear supply, Scott has some free printable tutorial sheets on basic sewing stuff and hammock, tarp, ditty bags, etc.
Cool vid!! Curious of the thread type/size and needle size?? Thanks!!
what kind of machine do you use. and good video
Such a good video , I learned a lot. Can you tell me where to find oregon for suppressor thread needle? I don't see them on the web, Thanks. mlangdon
Either superiorthreads.com or Amazon sells Superior or Organ needles.
Perfect summary, comprehensive. I can't imagine to start project without testing and choosing propper needles, threads and stitch length fór material and purpose in advance. And finding the best one possible adjustment of machines and equipment, of course. ---- One comment only: each one home machine has bobbin thread tension adjustable by user. Common user can't find button or knob to change it, so he doesn't do it. This fact doesn't mean, that it is impossible, it should be done with small screwdriver only. On CB type (oscilating hook) it is alwyas very easy, all their bobbin cases are almost the same with two small bolts on flat spring, this one closer to margin simply holds the spring, second one sets the tension. On rotation type bobbin (bobbin often placed under clear cover from above) is sometimes necessary dismount stitch plate and take off bobbin holder, nothing of that affects warranty. How to do you can find in owners manual in chapters "maintanace and periodical cleaning". On the bobbin holder is again dedicated small screw pushing on tension spring. Crucial problem is, that some cheap home machines are manufactured and factory setted to sew with threads closely around 120 strength and needle #90 ... but nothing zoo different. And common issue of low- and mid-class home machines use to be feeding of smooth fabric; compare to even basic types of industrial ones.
Dude.. never video a build of anything without showing the finished product in use as intended.
Glad I read this before I got invested. Good looking.
Hi, great vid, love the detail your showing on the vid, thanks, what's the machine your using please, regards Bill
That machine is a Babylock Verve. It's a single needle embroidery and sewing machine combo.
Great video, and great ‘dadding’.
Great info, thanks! Any suggestions on working with membrane silpoly .9?
So sorry for the delayed response. I haven’t worked with the membrane .9, to many reports of durability issues for me. Although, i would use Mara 100 or Tera 80 with #10 or #12 Microtex needle and bond the tie out reinforcement patches. Post on Reddit r/myog I’m sure you’ll get plenty of great advice.
No problem! Thanks for the info! i’ll check out reddit
keep the tarp DIY vids coming!
Your projects look really professional. Would love to see how you make a quilt.
Thanks for this video. I'm a newbie hanger, but committed DIYer. Looking forward to the tarp video.
