Hello! Yes I was self-catered ☺️ Kitchen is shared with 5 other students including yourself. And it’s quite big ~ there’s a sofa area and then kitchen and dining.

@@audreycurates I am a PG living in the DRA catered. I am surprised to find that your room in the Powell Hall looks a bit more spacious & nicely furbished than ours in the DRA. Perhaps, that's a tradeoff between catered & self-catered LOL

Hi 👋 Better check with the admission's office. I started mid-September and I had to be there at the beginning of September. The course date can vary from course to course but if you start in January you might want to aim to be there mid-January ☺️

Hello Victoria! Congratulations on your graduation ❤ Thank you for your questions. I'm going to answer as best I can! Regarding the application, I believe you will need to indicate if you have any disability as per every application process in the UK. The same application process applies for everyone. This is normally done for them to have records in case of any emergency. You'll need to do your experience, statement and other essential information. The lectures used to take place in St Mary's Quad and the class was at ground floor, with accessibility doors at the side. The building in which the Art History department resides, on the other hand, is an old building and unfortunately, the upper floors aren't accessible via a lift. While I was there, there were talks on having a lift which allows accessibility for the upper floors, however, due to Covid-19 and me not having been there for almost a year now I cannot provide a proper update on that. The other buildings including the library, accommodations and Student Union for example all have lifts. The placements/projects differ - in my year, we had around 50 placements to choose from with different tasks - exhibitions, research, collections care and many other tasks so again it depends on the museums who choose to collaborate and provide placements. Not to mention, that you can propose your own thesis topic which can easily be on a topic you have close to your heart. They are very open about accessibility and inclusion in the art history department, so I would ask you to email them here pgarthist@st-andrews.ac.uk or give them a call so that you can ask them thoroughly and cross out any concerns you have! They are very helpful and can provide you with the latest updates. I hope this helps!

You're very welcome! I remember looking for information on this course and having nothing to go on so I'm glad it helps. It shouldn't be an issue because we had some people coming from subjects such as classics, chemistry and other disciplines. I think the museum world is so big that you can use the skills learned in this course with any subject. Regarding the application, I think the best way to go is to outline your passions and ambitions after you finish the course and how you would use the skills learned to progress within the museum world. Mentioning too why you chose to apply for this course, also helps (there are so many museum study courses, why St Andrews). I would also recommend highlighting any volunteering you're doing/have done because it will surely earn you some extra brownie points. I hope this helps!

I travel a lot but I try to skip museums as I loose my interest when I am in and it feels waste of money. I prefer entertainment and attractive museum.

@@YanikaMuscat I know and agree Yanika, unfortunately, museums aren't for everyone. If you're going to a museum I would suggest researching before and using them as spaces that you can relax after a long walk or join in on some events that they might have for the evenings ❤
