I’m a longtime patient with degenerative arthritis and spinal stenosis, with (25+ years) of orthopedic procedures. I live in pain daily. Orthopedic surgeons get no awards for being stellar diagnosticians. Of course, some doctors are better than others and I’ve experienced both. I had an L2-S1 fusion in June 2021, during the midst of Covid. The administrative dysfunction at the hospital I was at nearly killed me, literally. I had another OrthoSurgeon redo the fusion due to some supposed haloing and adjacent segment deterioration. Ok. But he NEVER raised the issue that my SI joints, until post redo. This patient is both cynical and suspicious that medical groups are milking Medicare and supp insurance, before considering SI fusion. I recently had a diagnostic lidocaine/corto injection. I was euphoric for 4 hours. Yet, another Ortho doc wants to install hardware all the way up my spine. I believe the profession need a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting, before you lose all credibility.
