When Marvel movies used to be Actually good

Whatever your feelings about the quality of this film and it's story, this Hulk still looks like a plastic toy, though much better than Bana's Hulk. The decision to give the Avengers Hulk a little bit of loose skin gave him somewhere to go, physically, when he roared and got angry. You could tell when he flexed. This one is so peeled that you get very little of the sense of when it gets stronger and angrier. There is this desire to valorize the old version of stuff, to suggest that the critics are wrong, but like... this film did barely better than the Bana Hulk film and only if you don't account for the difference in budget, which brings their box office performance to parity, and audience sentiment towards the new Hulk dwarfs this one by a country mile. I don't give a shit either way - I just like watching clips of old random movies, and don't particularly like either Hulk. But there is some insane cope in these comment sections. This Hulk was an experiment, and they iterated on the formula to arrive at the much more well-loved Ruffalo Hulk. "Oh, this Hulk would have beat up Thanos." These are movies. The guy who wins is whoever the plot needs to win. Marks for a comic book movie character.

To this day I still believe Marvel made a mistake recasting Norton. He cared for the characters and their stories and if he was still in the picture and given creative control like Ryan Reynolds got I believe Both Hulk and Abomination would never have become a pathetic joke. Ill give Ruffalo some respect for he did well in Avengers 1 but he was sadly just a puppet who doesn't care for character development or stories. Truly hope in some way Norton comes back in Avengers secret wars and unleashes the one true INCREDIABLE HULK!!

I remember building this in 35mm print film for the UA theatres and some guido from the audience thought there was a whole part missing.

8:34 this part always gets me because it’s no longer a slugfest between two juggernauts but instead an execution, Hulk is hellbent on murdering Abomination and here he realises why Hulk shouldn’t be messed with as he frankly scratches and claws at Hulk to break free just for Hulk to tighten his grip more if it wasn’t for Betty Abomination would have died then and there.
