Getting Our Berkshire Pigs, Pigs Escaped, Fixing the Pig Pen, Kids Fall in Love With the Pigs
What a fun day getting our pigs! We certainly learned a lot in one day.... Especially when it comes to how fast pigs are and how difficult it is to catch them. SO thankful to have these experiences.

    This might be ok for piglets but a grown hog will push that right over.

    This tip was correct, and it worked for the electrical conduit, worked PERFECTLY. I knew I was going to mess up, so I bought 7 EMTs instead of 5, and practiced on two. So my first two were all caddy-wompus, but I tested your theory with the extras and it worked perfectly, so then I did it live on the 4 actual ones for the tractor and I made perfect bends. You're awesome. Subscribed and liked. May the Lord Jesus bless you and keep you always, under the shadow of His wings.

    The half lap joints should be left to the pros. Suscovich is wrong to recommend them.

    2years down the road. I'm curious how this held up for your pigs? We're still in trial and error keeping our pigs contained with panels. Not sure if we need more posts along the panels or we're just not using strong enough connectors for t-post to panel.

      It ended up working well for the piglets. We eventually started using electric polywire that I moved weekly so they got new ground. We have since changed to just using cattle/hog panels tied together. Last year we raised 2 American Guinea hogs in 5 cattle panels tied together with twine from hay bales. This worked for an entire year until one pig figured out how to lift the fencing and escape. 🙈 we got her back and they went into the freezer. This year I got actual hog panels tied together with the twine and am using a new LockJawz product that connects right to the panels. Now we just have a single hot wire at the bottom so that should keep them from lifting the fence one they’re grown (they’re only 9 weeks old right now).

    The plans are mediocre at best ! Stress free sure isn’t in the building of the chicken tractor! He says follow the pictures and that doesn’t help! For the price he is charging for the plans he really needs to redo them! Im no beginner carpenter by any means but these plans need serious work! Glad you explained it more 👍🏼

    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! I was losing my mind trying to get the conduit bent so that both sides were even. Great video overall, thank you again!!!

    Good job! I've built a few of these. The half lap joints add a lot of time to the project. I used a table saw with a dado blade. I also struggled with the conduit. I ended up cutting it and using 45 degree connectors. A little more money but worth it for me. Hardware cloth everywhere for me.

    That was a great build. I've got ten black australorps that I have living in a 100sqft dog kennel with a henhouse built in,but I'm wanting to try some cornish cross meat birds and I think this would be a great way to keep 25 birds moving around my yard for 4 or 5 weeks til it's time for processing.

    • @pasturedforesthomestead1299
      @pasturedforesthomestead1299 2 года назад

      Well, if you have seen the following video, the setup didn’t work for piglets because we learned they can fit through the cattle panels. 🙈 But once we got some smaller wire around the cattle panels the setup worked well. We ended up switching to electric netting that we could move. There was a lot of learning happening and I hope to make a video to explain some things one day.

    Thanks for sharing this.... You will have saved me and other first timers from thinking feeder pigs are big enough to use cattle panel. I admit I would have thought I needed pig panel only if I had piglets and would have purchased whatever was the cheapest. Thanks for being brave and authentic. I'm certain you guys are busy and hope your all well. Hope you get back to posting videos to your channel. BTW, your videos don't have to be edited perfectly, its the content that matters... While the editing has been great, its far better to learn with you than to miss the opportunity due to lack of time for perfection. :)
