In this video we look at how to capture awesome Treat catching photos with dogs. I take you through how I set my camera, the gear I use as well as a demo with our own two models. I will help you understand that you do not need expensive gear or even high shutter speeds to be able to capture great sharp images of dogs in the moment just before they snatch the treats out from in front of the came...

In this video we take you along on a location Photo Shoot. We had such a fun time with these two goofballs. In the video you will see that pet photography requires alot of patience and its not always a matter of Sit, stay and click. Both Mini and Goldie were much more interested in the yummy treats and giving out sloppy kisses than actually posing for photos. Location : Majik Forest, Durbanvill...

    Hi. I have a question. Well I can not figure out the balance between shutter speed and ambient light (because of finding focus). When I switch off the ambient light my camera (canon r6 II) can't find the focus point. When switch on the light I have , as you explain, motion blur....And now?

    this was great. thank you for sharing. couple questions: 1) was this a one-light set up? looked to be but wanted to make sure 2) do you emphasize or deemphasize the reflection on the table in editing and 3) will you share any editing photos? would love to see what you do in post

    Seems so simple... But requires a lot of practice to catch the moment. And when you can do this with your own dog, and want to do the same trick with the client's dog... Well, it is not an instant success story! :D Time consuming - be careful when pricing!

    • @shuttermuttspetphotography562
      @shuttermuttspetphotography562 2 года назад

      Yes, alot of practice!! We have found that not many other breeds do this but have been successful with the ones that do. Once you have the technique it is all up to the dog you are photographing.

    Mate. First can you send your pooches to me in the UK? No! Seriously, what a wonderful short easy, straight to the point video. One thing I like to ask. "What is the platform material you are using and, how high is it"?

      @shuttermuttspetphotography562 2 года назад

      Haha, Lara would not make it in the cold!!! Lisa would LOVE the snow : ) For this shoot it was just wood board on some pallets. I normally use something more like a old coffee table or if the dogs dont want to be on something i will set it up on the floor. And then i have a roll of Black/White vinyl that for the background and floor. I have actually changed to the black perspex or plexiglass which allows me to get some reflection in the photos as well

    Laughable! Now try to that with unruly, not trained dogs who wouldn’t climb on a shiny table if their life depended on it. You can’t!

    • @shuttermuttspetphotography562
      @shuttermuttspetphotography562 2 года назад

      Well most of the dogs we photograph are far from trained and we have had some really difficult ones but I have never not got the shot in a studio setting. It is easy to remove the table and do it on the floor as well. The only thing laughable is your comment my friend.

    • @shuttermuttspetphotography562

      Yes, using a lower flash power allows you to capture action. Because the flash is so short it freezes everything in the frame

    Sweet. it's nice how Laura waits patiently while it is Lisa's turn! I would not have guessed 1/200 (is that right?) is fast enough to capture them.

    • @KaiMattern
      @KaiMattern 4 года назад

      The 1/200 sec itself is not fast enough, but the light in the room is so dim, that the appr. 1/10000 from the flash is actually doing the exposure. And that is fast enough. So if you would make the room dark enough, even 1/50 would be ok. But at that darkness you might run into autofocus trouble.

    • @shuttermuttspetphotography562
      @shuttermuttspetphotography562 2 года назад

      @@KaiMattern To make the room dark im using the aperature, You can see in the video the room is brightly lit with natural light. As long and you have the exposure dark you will capture what is lit by the flash
