Abu Dhabi to Muscat Via Express Highway - Only 5 Hrs !!
Best way to do this trip is as follows. Trust me i do it frequently .
Drive on the main road Abu Dhabi - Al Ain - Khatm Al Shikla (Shakla/Shiklah ) Border - Go around 35-40 KM, Take Muscat Salalah Exit [Muscat Express Highway] - 250 Km to Muscat. Believe me it less than 500 KM
From UAE Border Oman border customs/passport is a long way back from the actual border. Stop at window, handover passports, get Exit Stamp paying AED 35.
You will also receive a piece of paper with the number of people in your car. You hand this in at the last gatehouse which is a few hundred metres further down the road.
Border post is now straight ahead. Park your car just before the window for passport control. (Or ...

One of the best route where you can enjoy your drive to Muscat. One side beach and other side mountain..its simply amazing !! Have to drive 300 KM more to enjoy this road, but its really worth !! Started 4 AM from Abu Dhabi Reached 6:20 at Al Ain Mezyad Border. Took 2 and Hrs for border crossing as it was Eid Holidays. Reached Salalah around 10.30 PM. Few points to ponder for those who intended to drive. 1. Keep in mind that you need to travel 1,300 kilometers from Abu Dhabi/Dubai to reach Salalah. Hi, as my insurance is covering OMAN (own damage only) , as its enough for me for travel or i want to purchase ORANGE card (third party damage also) from the border?
i am planning next week. this express highway petrol pumps available? what about Oman insurance? is there any problem for cars with bank mortgage ?
RAKESH K no petrol pumps available in express highway..check with Oman insurance it is included or not..normally its included..but double check with insurance..with mortgage no issues..car must be in ur name.. thatsall
