Greetings everyone from here in Southeastern,Va.I'm a Navy Vietnam era vet, retired civil servant and three year survivor. With me,after all is said and done,it's music, pure and simple.I have played bass and lead guitar since the mid 1960s.I've written a few tune, the instrumental "Disco Dreck" featured on the "CD4TC" benefit recording. My local and military musical groups included The Horizon,The Soul Solution,Yucca,Blues Power,Scarred for Life,Harbinger,Shadows,Sunnyland Blues Band and The Red Roosters.A few of these outfits are represented here in my Vibrato1 channel. Also groups or artists that I've reviewed, interviewed or just enjoyed live are posted in here.I do miss those good old days of the reviewing aspect,as the local mags that I once appeared in,have all but disappeared(Portfolio Weekly,Tidewater after Dark,Natchel Blues Networks' "Blues News").I do hope that you're able to find something on my channel that you enjoy. Thanks for dropping by.

I miss Dickey.... Freddie the Swede
All that is left is Bill Payne. A fine musician, but not Little Feat.
😍😍
Can’t wait to see you on Dec 7th!! There’s going to be a partay 🎉❤
I love this funky band! TOP is total bad-ass!
That they are,
Damn now i freaky know i missed a good show. I i wanted to see Kingfish so bad. I don't doubt he'll be back at The Norva. 🎸 🎶
Thanks for posting 😊
First off, apologizes, for the video cut off at the end. My Samsung S22 overheated yet again and shut off. Thank you Norva, your friendly staff, and to "VetTix" for getting me into Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram and Warren Haynes this past week. Soulful music is still alive and well in downtown Norfolk. Two weeks ago,I drove 9+ hours down to Macon Ga. for keyboardist Tony Coopers' "CoopFest" benefit concert. While there,I made a pilgrimage to "Rosehill Cemetary", where ABB members' Duane and Gregg Allman,Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks are buried. Also on my bucket list was "The Big House" or Allman Brothers Museum and the new Capricorn Studios. I thoroughly enjoyed the Warren Haynes show, which featured a superb, musicians' lineup that was just so super tight and funky.
Thnx for sharingg
and a nice guy to boot.
Nice! New guys are great!
Hasn't got a bad vocal range, but gives me slight "Lounge vocalist" vibes... I still think Ray Greene was the last really good singer they had,it's been downhill since he left for Santana.
Just saw TOP in June 2024 in Bethesda, Maryland. The crowd was insanely appreciative.❤️❤️🎵🎵
I can absolutely see why.
Didn’t they sing their old songs?
As the music columnist for the local paper I had reviewed their Three Friends album and was blown away by their musicianship and songwriting ability. I was at the concert as well but I was there to interview the headliners, Humble Pie. The crowd was waiting to rock out to the gut punching 4 Day Creep powered by Steve Marriott’s gravelly vocals when Gentle Giant took the stage. Having heard their album I wondered who booked them on that tour! However, when they came on stage they took the roof off the Coliseum. As you can hear on this fan recording (most likely illegally pirated) the complexity and precision of their composition and performance. Hello Progressive Rock! I’ve been listening to a Brit Prog band called HAKEN and for those of you wishing GG was still around give them a listen. They combine prog, metal and jazz with incredible vocals that will carry you back to the madrigal singing featured in Gentle Giant.
Just to let you know, that "illegally pirated" recording would've been by me, accomplished with a Panasonic portable recorder stuck down my pants. It most certainly wasn't off of a soundboard. In the mid 1970s,I started my side career, music reviewing for local magazines including "Tidewater After Dark", Portfolio Weekly, Jewish News and Natchel Blues Networks', "Blues News". I wish that I was reviewing when Gentle Giant made that appearance in Hampton,Va. I was a product of the Sixties and had my head and my ears completely turned around by their deeply, progressive music. That triple, eclectic musical lineup was among my first concerts, after my Vietnam era enlistment.
@@VIBRATO1 The brothers stuck together through a few albums but, as happens, fans are fickle and the required ability to fathom the complexity of that genre suffered with the dawn of Punk. 2 chords, blast beats and screaming was about to replace the likes of Yes, ELP and Gentle Giant on the charts. Still a pretty good recording. I wrote for The Daily Press and Regale Entertainment News.
Yes, GG tried to get a tad more commercial with the likes of "Giant for a Day", but to no avail. I have their complete set as well as Humble Pies' on 50 year old cassettes. As I have time, I'll get GGs' whole set out there on this channel.
@@VIBRATO1 I interviewed Humble Pie on their first swing through VA at the Dome in Va Beach. Steve Marriott invited me back to their hotel on the beach and all the guys were sleeping of the two beds in the room. Frampton seemed quite shy. Steve had been given an allowance and he bought an R&B cassette he wanted to play on a little boombox. Some years later I had dinner with he and Alexis Körner at the holiday Inn next to the Coliseum. Steve’s health was in decline. For dinner I remember he ordered a salad of nothing but lettuce which he never ate a bite of. He was one of my heroes at that time. My band opened our set with 4 Day Creep. Always loved the live album.
Was at this show. It was hot as Hades but TOP played like it was still the 70's my era. Great brass and percussion as usual. Still jammin after all these years.
@dong4702 Yes,I was dripping sweat in there. But,yeah,TOP had me at "Squib Cakes".
I had never heard of Gentle Giant until this show. I was aware of Humble Pie but not a big fan. Foghat was up and coming on strong at that time and I really liked their sound, especially their next album "Energized", which came out in '74.
Still groovin'! Saw the band in SF, 1978. Still powerful, still funky - love it!!!
I was there!!! This was the very first rock concert I ever attended. I had just graduated from Bethel High School in June of '73 and was just starting Christopher Newport College. I liked Foghat the most.
Jeffrey,That was quite an eclectic lineup that evening at the Hampton Coliseum.I was already a Savoy Brown fan,so I knew I'd enjoy Foghat. That also was the only time I ever saw a version of Humble Pie.Clem Clempson was on lead guitar that evening.I met guitarist Rod Price from Foghat once, when he was performing one summer in downtown Hampton. But yeah,my brother and I dug Gentle Giant the most, especially as we'd gotten hooked on their "Three Friends" album.I hope to post more audio from that show..My brother Larry had his MGB ripped off from the Coliseum parking lot that night..
Tower still got the POWER still jamming 50+ years how many bands from that era is still kicking IT keep on doing IT. T😊P keep bringing on .🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
They surely bring the funk.
I don’t think anyone has ever covered this
I did see my favorite picker Jeff Beck do it justice.
Always caught TOP at the Waldorf in SF back in the early 80's... TOP is the definition of Funk
"Squib Cakes" did it for me.
NO GARIBALDI? REALLY, HOPEFULLY NOT ... but, as a drummer, i gotta admit this new guy is FANTASTIC - he holds it down very similar to DG David. I agree, the lead singer is paramount to the TOP tradition. This young dude is not a worthy resplacement to Lenny Williams and the others in the past. But, he's young and i give him credit for attempting to do the TOP vocal gig. Soul Brothers are usually the best lead singers in the TOP -- until yall find the young soul bruh singer, keep the young man lead singer. He's doing well, for right now !!!! young singer's vocal chops are a bit too girly - too high of a pitch, or something like that - at least he knows his lyrics.
You are on point regarding the new drummer. David G. is a legend. I really like Jordan the new singer, the two guys prior to Jordan did not fit my ear, and apparently , Mimi. Ray Greene has been a great Designated Singer. The rest of the guys are always tight. Go TP
The Tesla power wall is probably overloading the lights in your house
Thank you for your helpful suggestion. When I use the SunPower app to simulate losing power, that is when the intermittent light flashing begins, alternating between my three ceiling fans.
Love Curtis, the original "Blues Brother!" Thank you for the this.
Absolutely,Al. It was 20 years back that Curtis performed at Goodfellas in Hampton,Va. I was one of several volunteer writers for our Natchel Blues Network here in Southeastern, Va. I was so fortunate to have reviewed his show here and just gave him a printed copy 20 years later.
@@VIBRATO1 Thats great. I never have got the chance to see him. I have a few of his cd's.
The kid sounds OK, the guitar playing not bad, needs to work on his singing, tho this is only a snippet of a show to watch; we'll see.
The industry has always made it difficult for female musicians, glass ceilings and all that. Jennifer you rock, and deserve so much more. Your tenure with Michael Jackson brought you to mainstream attention, but I know there is so much more to you than that. I saw a couple of documentaries that showed how difficult it was for women to be taken seriously in rock in particular, Joan Jett, 4NonBlondes, Cindy Lauper etc etc, and that needs to change. You carry a torch, a beacon of hope….may you continue to shine brightly for many years to come ❤
@buggerlugs4653 There are a bunch of female guitarists playing the blues also..I interviewed and reviewed several including Ana Popovic and Deborah Coleman for our Natchel Blues Network Blues News paper.
@@VIBRATO1 they’re excellent aren’t they? I was a jobbing guitarist for most of my working life, yet my girlfriend (who was a much better guitarist than me) struggled to get her head above water, and when work did come her way the industry was more focused on how she looked. She now teaches advanced technique at a music college over here in England.
"And brand new to the TOP rhythm section ........." What, does that mean no more David Garibaldi????
Still around for over 50 years and still powerful . Saw/heard them last yesr in Denton tx .
I liked the singer on their 50th anniversary special on PBS much more than this guy.
Happy 56th ToP🎉
"Dazed & Confused" Words & Music by Jake Holmes Performed by YARDBIRDS Ben King: lead guitar Andy Mitchell: vocals, harmonica Jim McCarty: Drums Dave Smale: bass guitar Chris Dreja: rhythm guitar
It was an excellent evening of Yardbirds' music with this younger lineup.Having longtime Yardbirds,Led Zeppelin roadie Henry Smith get introduced was a historical treat for us fans.
❤ Yardbirds!
This was my first 10cc concert at the July 24th show in Montclair NJ. Thank you for posting this clip. I am a fan since the first album with Rubber Bullets. This new band is so great and the talent is enormous. I hope they return back to NJ in the future. I just love these 10cc songs and also the new one by Graham Floating in Heaven Good Bless you all.
Respectable version
Hmm...this doesn't look like the Music Pier; their curtains are blue and not red. I think the date is wrong, too.
You are spot on concerning my posted video.I still had the 10CC concert in Ocean City,NJ that I'd driven up 6 hours on my mind.
I live in Hampton now and also was here in 1973, too bad I was only 12. I didn't hear of Gentle Giant until I was 16. Would have loved to see that show! Thanks for posting.
Todd,My brother Larry and I went to that eclectic evening of music. The only bummer that night was my brothers' MGB vehicle was ripped off from the Hampton Coliseums' parking lot.Otherwise,Gentle Giant, who I'd discovered with their "Three Friends" recording, treated the crowd to a most amazing set of beautiful, progressive music.
Nasty comment Root. You'll get there if you're lucky. These men are musical legends.
That they most certainly are.
Deceptive Bends is a fantastic album.
It most certainly is.The Original Soundtrack was my first initiation into 10CC.I'd followed Graham Gouldman from the body of all the 60s' british bands he'd composed songs for. This current 10CC lineup is a devestatingly potent one. Thank you so much for coming back to the states.
Thanks for sharing! Fantastic tune. I was at the show at the Keswick Theater. The entire band were incredible. Would You happen to know the name of the musician to the viewers right? I tried researching on Wikipedia. It said that his name is Ian Hornal. But ... I looked at photos of the man online and they didn't look like him. I ask because ... I'd like to learn more about him. He was just so incredibly talented. Thanks again.
Gregg,That fine musician is singer/multi-instrumentalist Andy Park.
@@VIBRATO1 - Thanks so much. I look forward to learning more about him and checking out more of his output of tunes ... Live and on record.
Does my heart good to know that "Oakland's Own" is still on the road and still disturbing the funk
*Outasight & Super Tight.
*Tighter than a Bump City Clenched fist it is.
Band sounds great! They need to ditch the lil kid sangin. His parents wernt even born when those TP songs came out.
carlton, google prakash john , the lil kids dad, and see if his resume is good enough 4 u. and check out jordan johns solo discs. he's just what TOP needs at this point in time.
@@joeymyopiclmao. Nailed it
What's wrong with his singing?
The "kid" (Jordan Johns) plays drums, keyboards , guitar & sings. And he is very good at them all.
Yes, stop with the kids singing please , this is an adult , bringing back the memories venue!!
TOP! Still holding it down tight! Thanks for the memories!
Pete has quite the chops!
Thank you AL❤
@@peterantunes1153 Your more than welcome. Is it true that you're from North Dartmouth MA? I googled your name and there was an article from 1997 from the local paper "South Coast Today" or something along those lines and it had an article with your name as a drummer from the local high school. Anyway, if you are, I'm right down the road in Fall River. You're the perfect guy to fill DG's chair. I saw my first show in 1973 and I haven't stopped since. Time flies and welcome to ToP!
@@alcambrola2834 😂😂 That’s amazing!!! That’s me from Dartmouth. I’ve still got a bunch of friends out in Fall River. One of which, in particular, is Todd and Tammy from TJ’s music shop on main st. I don’t even think that he knows that I got the gig yet! 😂 I worked there for a while back in the day and actually ordered that Tama kit that I was playing through him.
@@peterantunes1153 Small world. TJ's music back in the 60's and 70's was Al Rainones music. At 12, I started trumpet lessons there and played in the high school bands and that's about as far as I went with it. I go by there all the time because my favorite Chinese restaurant "Number One" is right next door in a little strip mall along with a Dominoes. These days, I sing a little Karaoke and actually do "Down to The Nightclub."-lol
@@peterantunes1153 Sounds really great, Davids place is in good hands
people need to enjoy this new version....cuz it is really good!
It sure is. I just found out; the drummer is from my area.
Squib Cakes it is--Outasight !
Wonderful sound. Thank You.
Right On THANKS for all the shares
White people love soul music for sure. They used to be the shit
Was there and it was great. Mix improved after a couple of songs
It certainly did,Robert.I'd appreciated a little more guitar in the mix, too.
